Close to the edge: hierarchy in a double braneworld

We show that the hierarchy between the Planck and the weak scales can follow from the tendency of gravitons and fermions to localize at different edges of a thick double wall embedded in an $AdS_5$ spacetime without reflection symmetry. This double wall is a stable BPS thick-wall solution with two sub-walls located at its edges; fermions are coupled to the scalar field through Yukawa interactions, but the the lack of reflection symmetry forces them to be localized in one of the sub-walls. We show that the graviton zero-mode wavefunction is suppressed in the fermion edge by an exponential function of the distance between the sub-walls, and that the massive modes decouple so that Newtonian gravity is recuperated.Comment: Some typos corrected, references adde

Climatic confort analysis in Tandil city, Argentina

Los efectos urbanos sobre el clima regional también alteran las condiciones de confort, modificándolas a escala local y microclimática. No existen trabajos sobre esta temática en la ciudad de Tandil, por lo cual el objetivo del presente artículo es estudiar el confort en la ciudad. Se analizaron las condiciones regionales utilizando tres índices de verano y uno de inverno, ya que se considera que las ciudades con clima templado generan mayores condiciones de poco confort en verano que en invierno. Los mismos índices fueron calculados para realizar una comparación urbano-rural de la temática. Además, se estudió particularmente la distribución espacial del Humidex para la estación estival. El resultado fue que la ciudad presentó mejores condiciones de confort climático durante el invierno que el área circundante, mientras que durante la tarde y la noche del verano se presentaron áreas de poca confortabilidad en el norte y en el centro urbano.Urban effects on regional climate also affect comfort condition modifying it at a local and microclimatic scale. There are not studies about climatic comfort in Tandil city and that is why this article main objective is to study the comfort in the city. Regional comfort conditions were analyzed by using three indexes for summer comfort and one for winter, because temperate climate cities are supposed to generate discomfort condition during summer more than winter. The same three indexes were calculated to develop a rural-urban comparison. By using data from summer measurement, the spatial distribution of the Humidex was studied. The result was that the city had best comfort conditions during winter than surrounding area, while in summer afternoon and night had discomfort in the north and center of the urban area.Fil: Picone, Natasha. Current situation of protected areas in La Pampa province, Argentina

Las áreas protegidas posibilitan conservar el patrimonio natural y cultural de la Argentina. El reto actual está enfocado en la gestión más que en el aumento de su superficie. El objetivo es analizar la situación actual de las áreas protegidas a escala nacional y en la provincia de La Pampa. Para ello se realizó un análisis estadístico de la información y a nivel provincial se presentó el marco legal, la caracterización del manejo y se analizaron las problemáticas actuales mediante los periódicos. Como resultado se destaca que, si bien aumentó la superficie de áreas protegidas en la provincia, la realidad de la gestión es en algunos casos casi nula. No se desarrolló aún una legislación acorde al patrimonio a conservar y no se registraron planes de manejo, personal e infraestructura en más de la mitad de las áreas protegidas.Protected areas allow the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Argentina. The challenge is now focused on the management rather than increasing its surface area. The objective is to analyze the status of protected areas at national level, and considering La Pampa province as well. To do this, a statistical data analysis was carried out. At provincial level, the legal framework, characterization of the management practices and current issues were analyzed using the local newspapers. As a result, it can be mentioned that even the size of protected areas in the province increased, some protected areas have a deficient legislation and they did not develop according to heritage conservation. Envelopes of commutative rings

Given a significative class $F$ of commutative rings, we study the precise conditions under which a commutative ring $R$ has an $F$-envelope. A full answer is obtained when $F$ is the class of fields, semisimple commutative rings or integral domains. When $F$ is the class of Noetherian rings, we give a full answer when the Krull dimension of $R$ is zero and when the envelope is required to be epimorphic. The general problem is reduced to identifying the class of non-Noetherian rings having a monomorphic Noetherian envelope, which we conjecture is the empty class.Comment: 28 pages, 1 figur

The relation practice-theory and the teaching professional development: obstacles and challenges

Resumen: El artículo trata el tema de las relaciones teoría-práctica en la educación, destacándose la ruptura existente entre el conocimiento pedagógico y la práctica escolar. En el trabajo se recorren las diferentes etapas del desarrollo profesional docente analizando sobre cómo son posibles las relaciones teoría-práctica en cada una de ellas. El texto concluye con medidas concretas que pueden ayudar a superar la quiebra teoría-práctica a lo largo del desarrollo profesional.Abstract: The article deals with the relationship between practice-theory in education, standing out the existing rupture between pedagogic knowledge and academic practice. The work covers different phases of the teaching professional development analyzing how the relationship practice-theory is possible in every one of them.
