Die AufklÀrung existiert nicht
âEnlightenmentâ (in German, âAufklĂ€rungâ) is not simply
the name of a movement or development whose existence
is uncontroversial. Rather, the claim âThe 18th century
was the age of enlightenmentâ or âIn Germany, there was
the Enlightenmentâ entail certain claims which need to be
discussed. This article argues that some of these claims are
false and that therefore the claim âThe Enlightenment does
not existâ is true
Was ist menschliches Personsein?
Was bedeutet Personvergessenheit?
Explaining prejudice toward the mentally ill: A test of sociopolitical, demographic, and socioeconomic factors
People with mental disorders often face prejudices that can further deteriorate their condition. We tested whether Social Dominance Orientation (SDO), RightâWing Authoritarianism (RWA), and Belief in a Just World (BJW), and characteristics of the mentally ill predict such prejudices. Both in a general population sample and a sample of health professionals and trainees, SDO, but not RWA and BJW, predicted more prejudice, although this pattern was less pronounced among health professionals/trainees. BJW interacted with the targets' gender in Study 1, predicting less empathy toward a male but not toward a female mentally ill person. In Study 2, depressed individuals were blamed more for their illness than those with schizophrenia or cancer. Implications for future research and clinical practice are discussed.

White Look-Alikes: Mainstream Culture Adoption Makes Immigrants "Look" Phenotypically White
White Americans generally equate "being American" with "being White." In six studies, we demonstrate that White Americans perceive immigrants who adopt American mainstream culture as racially White and, reciprocally, perceive White-looking immigrants as assimilating more. In Studies 1 and 2, participants visually represented immigrants who adopted U.S. culture by acculturating to mainstream American culture or by holding a common or dual identity as more phenotypically White and less stereotypic in appearance. In Studies 3 and 4, these processes explained why participants were less likely to racially profile immigrants but also regarded them as less qualified for integration support. In Study 5, participants perceived light skin to fit to high U.S. culture adoption and dark skin to low U.S. culture adoption. Finally, in Study 6, light-skinned immigrants were seen as less threatening because they were perceived as assimilating more. Immigrantsâ acculturation orientation and appearance interact and shape how they are evaluated
len.
English: Between 1960 and 2000 many German-speaking professors of philosophy confined their research to the history of philosophy, they did not defend their own answers to philosophical questions. This article describes some possible causes of this phenomenon, makes a plea for defending answers to philosophical questions, and gives some guidelines for doing so which anticipate some objections.

Has âModernityâ Shown All Arguments for the Existence of God to be Wrong?

Miracles Are Not Violations of the Laws of Nature Because the Laws Do Not Entail Regularity
Some have tried to make miracles compatible with the laws of nature by re-defining them as something other than interventions. By contrast, this article argues that although miracles are divine interventions, they are not violations of the laws of nature. Miracles are also not exceptions to the laws, nor do the laws not apply to them. The laws never have exceptions, they never are violated or suspended. They probably are necessary and unchangeable. They apply to divine interventions too. We need to reconsider not miracles but laws. The main claim of this article is that laws of nature do not entail regularities, and that therefore miracles do not violate the laws. We need a new theory of the laws of nature, the tendency theory
Prodigal sons: Dual Abrahamic categorization mediates the detrimental effects of religious fundamentalism on Christian-Muslim relations
Religious fundamentalism is associated with ChristianâIslamic conflicts globally, but the psychological reasons remain unexplored. Here, we show that fundamentalism is detrimental to interreligious relations because it makes Christians and Muslims alike reject common theological grounds and Abrahamic origins. Specifically, Study 1 demonstrated that such dual Abrahamic categories mediated the negative effects of fundamentalism on real monetary donations to outgroup children desperately in need (i.e., Save the Children Syria) among Christians but not Atheists. Of importance, this was the case only to the degree that Syrian children were perceived as Muslims and, hence, as part of an Abrahamic outgroup. Using a double-randomized experimental design, Study 2 demonstrated the causal effects of religious fundamentalism on Abrahamic categorization and of Abrahamic categorization on mutual resource distribution bias among Muslims and Christians. Together, these studies suggest that religious fundamentalism fuels interreligious conflicts because it crucially impacts basic categorization processes, with subsequent negative effects on intergroup relations.
