A Review on Application of Biosensors for Cancer Detection

    Get PDF
Cancer is a deadly disease that has devastated many lives over the years. Cancer, when detected in the early stage, can be cured through proper treatment, increasing the life expectancy of the patient. Thus, it is very important to detect cancer at the early stage. The current method of cancer detection is biopsy which is a total invasive medical procedure. Owing to the several limitations of the time-consuming procedure of biopsy researchers and scientist all over the globe have turned their attention towards the development of instruments for rapid and non-invasive detection of cancer through detection of clinically recognized cancer biomarkers present in blood and other body fluid of cancer patients. This paper discusses some of the novel biomarkers used for cancer diagnosis along with the potential use of biosensors in early detection of cancer

Potential of Archimedes Screw Turbine in Rural India Electrification: a Review

    Get PDF
With the growing population of India, the demand for energy consumption is increasing. For the overall development of a region, especially remote areas, electricity is of prime importance. Production of electricity in large scale can further lead to various effects like environmental pollution, climate change and it is also costly. Thus the need for a socio-economic energy conversion to electricity is of prime importance for a sustainable development. India has a huge potential in the Hydro to generate 2,50,000 MW. An Archimedes Screw Turbine that was earlier used as a pump can give a very good solution in harnessing water potential. It rotates as water flows through it, rotating the generator\u27s prime mover connected to it. Archimedes Screw turbines operate at a low head of 0.8m to 10 m and relatively lower flow rate than the other turbines and more cost effective and are highly efficient. The AST is quite a new form of electricity generation practice which has been implemented in different countries along with India. Thus the electrification scenario in rural areas can be improved specially where there is a continuous flow of a river or canal by the installation of the low-cost socio-economic AST

    Arduino Based Automatic Irrigation System

    Get PDF
In the present days, the farmers are suffering from severe drought like condition throughout the year. The main objective of this paper is to provide a system leads to automatic irrigation thereby saving time, money & power of the farmers, gardeners in greenhouses etc. Manual intervention is common in traditional farm-land irrigation techniques. This paper presents a technique for Arduino based Automatic Irrigation System. With this automated technology of irrigation, human intervention can be minimized. The moisture sensors will be bedded in on the field. Whenever there is a change in water concentration, these sensors will sense the change and gives an interrupt signal to the microcontroller. Soil is one of the most fragile resources whose soil pH property used to describe the degree of the acidity or basicity, which affects nutrient availability and ultimately plant growth. Thus, the system will provide automation, remote controlling and increased efficiency. The humidity sensor is connected to internal ports of microcontroller via comparator; whenever there is a fluctuation in temperature and humidity of the environment, these sensors sense the change in temperature and humidity and give an interrupt signal to the micro-controller and thus the motor is activated. A buzzer is used to indicate that the pump is on

Distributed Optical Fiber Sensor and Its Various Applications

The process of sensing can also be done with the help of optical fiber. This method of sensing is becoming very popular. The optical communication, which is the main communication technology, in this case, takes light as the carrier and optical fiber as the communication medium. Distributed Optical Fiber Sensors (DOFS) can be used for continuous measurement at the same time to obtain the spatial distribution of the measured state and time-varying information. This paper describes the background of DOFS technology. Various applications of DOFS are also listed

Potential Use of DC Microgrid for Solar and Wind Power Integration in Rural Areas in India: a Review

    Get PDF
This paper describes the possibilities of the application of DC microgrids to solve the rural areas, energy problem in the country (India). DC Microgrids open a gateway for integration of solar and wind energies which together are an efficient and cleaner way of renewable energy generation, which can be integrated into the power distribution network. They have several other advantages, which include - reduction in transmission losses, improvement in power quality & reliability, reduction in emissions and even they are cost effective. The most important characteristic is that it provides a possibility for electrification of remote villages, which are far from the reach of the conventional grid. This paper presents a detailed discussion on the possibility of application of DC microgrids for rural areas in India

Stability Improvement of Power System Due to Wind Farm and Fault Using FACTS Devices

    Get PDF
Wind energy is gaining the most interest among a variety of renewable energy resources, but the disadvantage is that wind power generation is intermittent, depending on weather conditions. FACTS devices are used to increase the transient stability on the presence of faults and the integration of renewable sources, like wind energy. Due to continuously varying wind speed components and also due to fault the active and reactive power along with terminal voltage fluctuates continuously. STATCOM and UPFC are two important FACTS devices; provide the desired reactive-power generation and absorption, entirely using electronic processing of the voltage and current waveforms in a voltage source converter (VSC). By connecting STATCOM and UPFC into the lines, the active power, reactive power, and terminal voltage is maintained constant and it also helps to improve the transient stability of the system. STATCOM can control voltage magnitude and, to a small extent, the phase angle in a very short time and UPFC can control voltage magnitude as well as phase angle and therefore, can improve the system performance. In this paper, improvement of transient stability in wind farm under fault have been studied using STATCOM and UPFC in MATLAB SIMULINK software

Health Monitoring of Induction Motor Through Vibration Analysis

    Get PDF
Machinery monitoring is the process of monitoring a parameter of condition in machinery, such that a significant change is indicative of a failure in development. Temperature, vibration, noise, current, voltage, acoustic emission, etc. – all these measurements are used for machine condition monitoring. Measuring vibration signals of the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) method is widely used to detect machine faults. There are many studies for the prediction of mechanical wear, fault and failure in this area for several decades. Signal processing techniques are used to obtain vital characteristic information from the vibration signals. This paper attempts to summarize the results of an evaluation of vibration analysis techniques as a method for diagnosis for three-phase induction motors
