Gluing together proof environments: Canonical extensions of LF type theories featuring locks

Scagnetto This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution License.We present two extensions of the LF Constructive Type Theory featuring monadic locks. A lock is a monadic type construct that captures the effect of an external call to an oracle. Such calls are the basic tool for gluing together diverse Type Theories and proof development environments. The oracle can be invoked either to check that a constraint holds or to provide a suitable witness. The systems are presented in the canonical style developed by the CMU School. The first system, CLLF/p,is the canonical version of the system LLF p, presented earlier by the authors. The second system, CLLF p?, features the possibility of invoking the oracle to obtain a witness satisfying a given constraint. We discuss encodings of Fitch-Prawitz Set theory, call-by-value λ-calculi, and systems of Light Linear Logic. Finally, we show how to use Fitch-Prawitz Set Theory to define a type system that types precisely the strongly normalizing terms
Robust Rotation Synchronization via Low-rank and Sparse Matrix Decomposition
This paper deals with the rotation synchronization problem, which arises in
global registration of 3D point-sets and in structure from motion. The problem
is formulated in an unprecedented way as a "low-rank and sparse" matrix
decomposition that handles both outliers and missing data. A minimization
strategy, dubbed R-GoDec, is also proposed and evaluated experimentally against
state-of-the-art algorithms on simulated and real data. The results show that
R-GoDec is the fastest among the robust algorithms.Comment: The material contained in this paper is part of a manuscript

A topological join construction and the Toda system on compact surfaces of arbitrary genus
We consider a Toda system of Liouville equations defined on a compact surface
which arises as a model for non-abelian Chern-Simons vortices. For the first
time the range of parameters , , is studied with a variational approach
on surfaces with arbitrary genus. We provide a general existence result by
means of a new improved Moser-Trudinger type inequality and introducing a
topological join construction in order to describe the interaction of the two
components
Global existence of solutions for a multi-phase flow: a drop in a gas-tube
In this paper we study the flow of an inviscid fluid composed by three
different phases. The model is a simple hyperbolic system of three conservation
laws, in Lagrangian coordinates, where the phase interfaces are stationary. Our
main result concerns the global existence of weak entropic solutions to the
initial-value problem for large initial data
Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ATLAS detector
This paper presents measurements of the and cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a
function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were
collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with
the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity
of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements
varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the
1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured
with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with
predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various
parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between

Computing LZ77 in Run-Compressed Space
In this paper, we show that the LZ77 factorization of a text T {\in\Sigma^n}
can be computed in O(R log n) bits of working space and O(n log R) time, R
being the number of runs in the Burrows-Wheeler transform of T reversed. For
extremely repetitive inputs, the working space can be as low as O(log n) bits:
exponentially smaller than the text itself. As a direct consequence of our
result, we show that a class of repetition-aware self-indexes based on a
combination of run-length encoded BWT and LZ77 can be built in asymptotically
optimal O(R + z) words of working space, z being the size of the LZ77 parsing
A decidable weakening of Compass Logic based on cone-shaped cardinal directions
We introduce a modal logic, called Cone Logic, whose formulas describe
properties of points in the plane and spatial relationships between them.
Points are labelled by proposition letters and spatial relations are induced by
the four cone-shaped cardinal directions. Cone Logic can be seen as a weakening
of Venema's Compass Logic. We prove that, unlike Compass Logic and other
projection-based spatial logics, its satisfiability problem is decidable
(precisely, PSPACE-complete). We also show that it is expressive enough to
capture meaningful interval temporal logics - in particular, the interval
temporal logic of Allen's relations "Begins", "During", and "Later", and their
transposes
Non-trivial, non-negative periodic solutions of a system of singular-degenerate parabolic equations with nonlocal terms
We study the existence of non-trivial, non-negative periodic solutions for
systems of singular-degenerate parabolic equations with nonlocal terms and
satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions. The method employed in this paper is
based on the Leray-Schauder topological degree theory. However, verifying the
conditions under which such a theory applies is more involved due to the
presence of the singularity. The system can be regarded as a possible model of
the interactions of two biological species sharing the same isolated territory,
and our results give conditions that ensure the coexistence of the two species.Comment: 39 page
