High-spin states and band terminations in v 49

    Get PDF
High-spin states in 49 V have been studied through the 28 Si(28 Si, α3p) reaction using the EUROBALL γ-ray detector array. The 49 V level scheme has been extended up to 13.1 MeV including 21 new states. Both negative and positive parity states have been interpreted in the framework of theShell Model. The 27/2− and the 31/2+ band termination states have been observed in agreement with theoretical predictions.Fil: Rodrigues Ferreira Maltez, Dario Pablo. Bleomycin-induced trans lipid formation in cell membranes and in liposome models

    Get PDF
Cell cultures of NTera-2 cells incubated with bleomycin and liposomes as biomimetic models of cell membranes were used for examining some novel aspects of drug-metal induced reactivity with unsaturated lipids under oxidative conditions. In cell cultures, bleomycin was found for the first time to cause the formation of trans fatty acids. The chemical basis of this transformation was ascertained by liposome experiments, using bleomycin-iron complexes in the presence of thiol as a reducing agent that by incubation at 37 °C gave rise to the thiyl radical-catalysed double bond isomerisation of membrane phospholipids. The effect of oxygen and reagent concentrations on the reaction outcome was studied. An interesting scenario of free radical reactivity is proposed, which can be relevant for understanding the role of membrane lipids in antitumoral treatments and drug carrier interaction.Fil: Cort, Aysegul. Mass enhancement in narrow band systems

A perturbative study of the Holstein Molecular Crystal Model which accounts for lattice structure and dimensionality effects is presented. Antiadiabatic conditions peculiar of narrow band materials and an intermediate to strong electron-phonon coupling are assumed. The polaron effective mass depends crucially in all dimensions on the intermolecular coupling strengths which also affect the size of the lattice deformation associated with the small polaron formation.Comment: Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia - Dipartimento di Matematica e Fisica, Istituto Nazionale di Fisica della Materia Universita' di Camerino, 62032 Camerino, Ital

Transformations of Logic Programs on Infinite Lists

    Get PDF
We consider an extension of logic programs, called \omega-programs, that can be used to define predicates over infinite lists. \omega-programs allow us to specify properties of the infinite behavior of reactive systems and, in general, properties of infinite sequences of events. The semantics of \omega-programs is an extension of the perfect model semantics. We present variants of the familiar unfold/fold rules which can be used for transforming \omega-programs. We show that these new rules are correct, that is, their application preserves the perfect model semantics. Then we outline a general methodology based on program transformation for verifying properties of \omega-programs. We demonstrate the power of our transformation-based verification methodology by proving some properties of Buechi automata and \omega-regular languages.Comment: 37 pages, including the appendix with proofs. Metrics on semistable and numerically effective Higgs bundles

We provide notions of numerical effectiveness and numerical flatness for Higgs vector bundles on compact K\"ahler manifolds in terms of fibre metrics. We prove several properties of bundles satisfying such conditions and in particular we show that numerically flat Higgs bundles have vanishing Chern classes, and that they admit filtrations whose quotients are stable flat Higgs bundles. We compare these definitions with those previously given in the case of projective varieties. Finally we study the relations between numerically effectiveness and semistability, establishing semistability criteria for Higgs bundles on projective manifolds of any dimension.Comment: 25 pages.
