MC/DC based estimation and detection of residual faults in PLC logic networks
A logic coverage measure related to MC/DC testing is used to estimate residual faults. The residual fault prediction method is evaluated on an industrial PLC logic example. A randomized form of MC/DC testing is used to maximize coverage growth and fault detection efficiency
Multiple testing for SNP-SNP interactions
Most genetic diseases are complex, i.e. associated to combinations of SNPs rather than individual SNPs. In the last few years, this topic has often been addressed in terms of SNP-SNP interaction patterns given as expressions linked by logical operators. Methods for multiple testing in high-dimensional settings can be applied when many SNPs are considered simultaneously. However, another less well-known multiple testing problem arises within a fixed subset of SNPs when the logic expression is chosen optimally. In this article, we propose a general asymptotic approach for deriving the distribution of the maximally selected chi-square statistic in various situations. We show how this result can be used for testing logic expressions - in particular SNP-SNP interaction patterns - while controlling for multiple comparisons. Simulations show that our method provides multiple testing adjustment when the logic expression is chosen such as to maximize the statistic. Its benefit is demonstrated through an application to a real
dataset from a large population-based study considering allergy and asthma in KORA. An implementation of our method is available from the Comprehensive R Archive Network (CRAN) as R package 'SNPmaxsel'
Measuring Coverage of Prolog Programs Using Mutation Testing
Testing is an important aspect in professional software development, both to
avoid and identify bugs as well as to increase maintainability. However,
increasing the number of tests beyond a reasonable amount hinders development
progress. To decide on the completeness of a test suite, many approaches to
assert test coverage have been suggested. Yet, frameworks for logic programs
remain scarce.
In this paper, we introduce a framework for Prolog programs measuring test
coverage using mutations. We elaborate the main ideas of mutation testing and
transfer them to logic programs. To do so, we discuss the usefulness of
different mutations in the context of Prolog and empirically evaluate them in a
new mutation testing framework on different examples.Comment: 16 pages, Accepted for presentation in WFLP 201
The Logic of Experimental Tests, Particularly of Everettian Quantum Theory
Claims that the standard methodology of scientific testing is inapplicable to
Everettian quantum theory, and hence that the theory is untestable, are due to
misconceptions about probability and about the logic of experimental testing.
Refuting those claims by correcting those misconceptions leads to various
simplifications, notably the elimination of everything probabilistic from
fundamental physics (stochastic processes) and from the methodology of testing
('Bayesian' credences)
Model-Based Testing of Safety Critical Real-Time Control Logic Software
The paper presents the experience of the authors in model based testing of
safety critical real-time control logic software. It describes specifics of the
corresponding industrial settings and discusses technical details of usage of
UniTESK model based testing technology in these settings. Finally, we discuss
possible future directions of safety critical software development processes
and a place of model based testing techniques in it.Comment: In Proceedings MBT 2012, arXiv:1202.582

Efficient Parallel Path Checking for Linear-Time Temporal Logic With Past and Bounds
Path checking, the special case of the model checking problem where the model
under consideration is a single path, plays an important role in monitoring,
testing, and verification. We prove that for linear-time temporal logic (LTL),
path checking can be efficiently parallelized. In addition to the core logic,
we consider the extensions of LTL with bounded-future (BLTL) and past-time
(LTL+Past) operators. Even though both extensions improve the succinctness of
the logic exponentially, path checking remains efficiently parallelizable: Our
algorithm for LTL, LTL+Past, and BLTL+Past is in AC^1(logDCFL) \subseteq NC
Model Driven Mutation Applied to Adaptative Systems Testing
Dynamically Adaptive Systems modify their behav- ior and structure in
response to changes in their surrounding environment and according to an
adaptation logic. Critical sys- tems increasingly incorporate dynamic
adaptation capabilities; examples include disaster relief and space exploration
systems. In this paper, we focus on mutation testing of the adaptation logic.
We propose a fault model for adaptation logics that classifies faults into
environmental completeness and adaptation correct- ness. Since there are
several adaptation logic languages relying on the same underlying concepts, the
fault model is expressed independently from specific adaptation languages.
Taking benefit from model-driven engineering technology, we express these
common concepts in a metamodel and define the operational semantics of mutation
operators at this level. Mutation is applied on model elements and model
transformations are used to propagate these changes to a given adaptation
policy in the chosen formalism. Preliminary results on an adaptive web server
highlight the difficulty of killing mutants for adaptive systems, and thus the
difficulty of generating efficient tests.Comment: IEEE International Conference on Software Testing, Verification and
