Deconstruction and Reconstruction of “Administration” in Local Undergraduate Universities

    Get PDF
The “administration” of local undergraduate universities is mainly manifested in the administrative tendency of the management of government to universities and the administrative tendency of the internal management of universities. By deconstructing the common administrative problems and their causes in local undergraduate universities, the path of optimization of administrative management in local undergraduate universities will be explored. The purpose is to reshape the relationship between the government which provides the service and universities which are served. Also, the internal governance structure of administrative power and academic power in local undergraduate universities can be reconstructed

The study aims to identify the efficiency of the university education performance from the perspective of postgraduate and undergraduate students in international and Palestinian universities. The analytical descriptive approach was used for this purpose and the questionnaire was used as a main tool for data collection. The study community consists of: post graduate students, (23850) graduate students and (146355) undergraduate students. The sample of the study was 378 graduate students and 383 undergraduate students. The random stratified sample was used. The Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) was also used for data analysis. The study reached a number of results, the most important of which are: The level of efficiency of educational performance in Palestinian and international universities from the point of view of postgraduate and undergraduate students was high. And that there are significant differences between the average views of the sample of the study on the efficiency of educational performance in Palestinian and international universities attributed to the University and to the benefit of international universities. The study concluded many recommendations, the most important of which is the necessity of continuing to develop e-learning strategies that affect the efficiency of educational performance and research commensurate with the university's position in the local and international community, which puts it on the best classification between local and international universities through e-learning

Funding  source: Research on talent training mode of "new engineering" in local undergraduate colleges and universities (project code: 2019SJA2197) Abstract: With the development of China's new economy and emerging industries, new engineering construction comes into being. Facing the construction of new engineering, local undergraduate colleges and universities should deeply understand their own development trend, clarify the training mode of new engineering talents, and take the adjustment of specialty setting guided by regional industrial demand, the innovation of talent training mode based on the consensus of coordinated development, and the improvement of talent training quality as the main measures for local undergraduate colleges and universities to cultivate new engineering talents Key words: local; New engineering; Talent training mode DOI: 10.7176/JEP/12-33-15 Publication date: November 30th 202

Access to undergraduate research experiences at a large research university

The American Physical Society recently released a statement calling on all university physics departments to provide or facilitate access to research experiences for all undergraduate students. In response, we investigated the current status of access to undergraduate research at University of Colorado Boulder (CU), a large research institution where the number of undergraduate physics majors outnumber faculty by roughly ten to one. We created and administered two surveys within CU's Physics Department: one probed undergraduate students' familiarity with, and participation in, research; the other probed faculty members' experiences as research mentors to undergraduates. We describe the development of these instruments, our results, and our corresponding evidence-based recommendations for improving local access to undergraduate research experiences. Reflecting on our work, we make several connections to an institutional change framework and note how other universities and colleges might adapt our process.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, 1 table; Submitted to 2015 PERC Proceeding

What does it mean to use competencies in "praxis" with undergraduate students at Historically Black institutions?

    Get PDF
Dialogue concerning competencies in community psychology practice has contributed to the articulation of undergraduate and graduate education in community psychology. This dialogue shares resources in applying community psychology competencies but lacks a voice—Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Historically Black Colleges and Universities have undergraduate courses and graduate programs in community psychology, yet, no one has written on competencies and "praxis" from these settings. This article uses reflective narratives from faculty and undergraduate students to illustrate the use of competencies in community psychology practice with a local community. The context of the institution, emerging from legal segregation in the south, and primarily populated by economically disadvantaged and ethnic minority students, models community inclusion, ecological perspectives, empowerment, value of socio-cultural diversity and reflective practice in a neighborhood revitalization project. Discussion centers on lessons learned and challenges in engaging in praxis across undergraduate settings and HBCUs

Student Number : 7262070 - M Ed research report - School of Education - Faculty of HumanitiesThis research report investigates the development of undergraduate history students’ knowledgeability and identity as historians. Drawing on a sociological paradigm, it examines the classification of the discipline or practice of history that informs undergraduate history teaching at a sample of three South African universities. It suggests that most undergraduate courses focus on and aim to apprentice students into a partial experience of the practice of history – the adjudicative task of the historian. The report then presents findings from an analysis of student feedback on their participation in an extended local history assignment. The analysis of student work draws upon socio-cultural notions of situated learning and the community of practice. This analysis suggests that as an instance of situated learning, the local history engagement enhances students’ understanding of the interpretative task of the historian and their own identity as constructors of history. The findings also suggest that there are implications for curriculum development in undergraduate history programmes
