    Integral Theory as developed by Ken Wilber and other contemporary Integral scholars acknowledge many antecedent foundational influences, and proto-Integral thinkers. Curiously, the philosopher-statesman Jan Smuts’ theory of Holism is seldom acknowledged, although it has significantly contributed, albeit often implicitly, to the development of Integral Theory. This paper and presentation has two central aims: To point out that Smuts can be counted amongst one of the great Integral thinkers of the 20th Century; that Smuts’ notion of Holism had a significant influence on the development of Integral Theory. This paper and presentation will provide a brief outline of Smuts’ theory of Holism as developed in his book Holism and Evolution and other philosophical essays

    An elementary way to introduce a Perron-like integral

    We give an alternative definition of integral at the generality of the Perron integral and propose an exposition of the foundations of integral theory starting from this new definition. Both definition and proofs needed for the development are unexpectedly simple. We show how to adapt the definition to cover the multidimensional and Stieltjes case and prove that our integral is equivalent to the Henstock-Kurzweil(-Stieltjes) integral

    A Challenging Conversation on Integral Futures: Embodied Foresight and Trialogues

    Practitioner reflection is vital for knowledge frameworks such as Ken Wilber's Integral perspective. Richard Slaughter, Joseph Voros and others have combined Wilber's perspective and Futures Studies to create Integral Futures as a new stance. This paper develops Embodied Foresight as a new approach about the development of new Integral Futures methodologies (or meta-methodologies) and practitioners, with a heightened sensitivity to ethics and specific, local contexts. Three practitioners conduct a 'trialogue' - a three-way deep dialogue - to discuss issues of theory generation, practitioner development, meta-methodologies, institutional limits, knowledge systems, and archetypal pathologies. Personal experiences within the Futures Studies and Integral communities, and in other initiatory and wisdom traditions are explored

    Sustainable Development and Integral Ecology: The Philippine Ecological Experience

    Two of the most important concepts that are related to environmental care and our present ecological situation are sustainable development and integral ecology. Pope Francis in his encyclical letter Laudato Si’ focused on these concepts and stressed the need to safeguard our environment to ensure that while we meet the needs of the present generation we also do not compromise the needs of the future generation. He proposes a development that is both sustainable and integral, a development that is authentically just and for the common good. In this paper I discuss the ideals of sustainable development and integral ecology as expounded by various scholars and from both the western and oriental perspectives and as discussed in Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’. The last section of the paper highlights the Philippine ecological situation to serve not as an ideal but a kind of mirror as to what is happening in a developing country like the Philippines which is situated in an area where different ecological factors converge. The Philippines has always been at the center of the many ecological crises mainly because of human and natural factors. In the end, I stress that sustainable development must be premised on integral ecology and this should be the case not only in the Philippines but in the entire planet

    Matrix Cauchy and Hilbert transforms in Hermitian quaternionic Clifford analysis

    Recently the basic setting has been established for the development of quaternionic Hermitian Clifford analysis, a theory centred around the simultaneous null solutions, called q-Hermitian monogenic functions, of four Hermitian Dirac operators in a quaternionic Clifford algebra setting. Borel–Pompeiu and Cauchy integral formulae have been established in this framework by means of a (4 × 4) circulant matrix approach. By means of the matricial quaternionic Hermitian Cauchy kernel involved in these formulae, a quaternionic Hermitian Cauchy integral may be defined. The subsequent study of the boundary limits of this Cauchy integral then leads to the definition of a quaternionic Hermitian Hilbert transform. These integral transforms are studied in this article

    The effort in the ORNL-SNAP shielding program is directed toward the development and verification of computer codes using numerical solutions to the transport equation for the design of optimized radiation shields for SNAP power systems. A brief discussion is given for the major areas of the SNAP shielding program, which are cross-section development, transport code development, and integral experiments. Detailed results are presented for the integral experiments utilizing the TSF-SNAP reactor. Calculated results are compared with experiments for neutron and gamma-ray spectra from the bare reactor and as transmitted through slab shields

    Efforts to give an improved mathematical meaning to Feynman's path integral formulation of quantum mechanics started soon after its introduction and continue to this day. In the present paper, one common thread of development is followed over many years, with contributions made by various authors. The present version of this line of development involves a continuous-time regularization for a general phase space path integral and provides, in the author's opinion at least, perhaps the optimal formulation of the path integral.Comment: LaTeX, 24 pages, no figure
