Plant based milks undermining Finnish milk belief : Discourse analysis of Milk Myths campaign

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on tutkia Oatlyn Maitomyytit-kampanjaa ja sen linkittymistä suomalaiseen ruokakulttuuriin sekä analysoida mediassa vallitsevaa asiantuntijapuhetta ja maallikkopuhetta diskurssianalyysin keinoin. Maito on historiallisesti vahvassa asemassa suomalaisessa ruokakulttuurissa. Muutokset ja jännitteet ruokakulttuurissa puhuttavat ja saattavat luoda vastakkainasettelun keskustelijoiden välille. Tämän vuoksi kaurajuomayhtiö Oatlyn mainoskampanja on aiheuttanut kohua. Tutkielman teoreettinen viitekehys kytkeytyy suomalaiseen ruokakulttuuriin, sen jännitteisyyteen ja muutoksiin, ruokapolitiikkaan sekä ruoan mediakeskusteluihin. Tutkimuskysymykset ovat seuraavat: 1 Millaisia diskursseja löytyy Oatlyn Maitomyytit-kampanjaan liittyvästä asiantuntijapuheesta uutis mediassa? 2 Millaisia diskursseja löytyy julkisesta maallikkopuheesta uutismedian kommenttikentässä liittyen Oatlyn Maitomyytit-kampanjaan? Tutkielman aineisto koostui kolmesta uutisesta liittyen Maitomyytit-kampanjaan sekä yhden uutisen kom menttikentästä. Uutiset oli julkaistu Helsingin Sanomissa, Iltalehdessä ja MTV:llä. Kommenttikenttä Maito myytit-kampanjasta liittyi Helsingin Sanomien Maitomyyttejä käsittelevään uutiseen. Aineisto analysoitiin diskurssianalyysin keinoin. Tutkimusaineistosta etsittiin puhetapoja, jotka nimettiin diskursseiksi. Asiantuntijapuheesta löytyvät diskurssit nimettiin terveys-, ympäristö- ja talousdiskursseiksi sekä vastakkainasettelun diskurssiksi. Julkisesta keskustelusta eli niin sanotusta maallikkopuheesta löytyneet diskurssit nimettiin maidon puolustus ja eläinten hyvinvoinnin diskursseiksi sekä boikotointi-, ympäristö- ja suomalaisuusdiskurssiksi. Johtopäätöksenä voitiin todeta, että tutkimustuloksina löydetyt diskurssit olivat jännitteisiä sekä sisäisesti että toisten diskurssien kanssa. Keskustelu esiintyi diskurssien perusteella yhtä polarisoituneena ja kahtiajakautuneena kuin aikaisempien tutkimusten mukaan ruokasodissa on todettu esiintyvän.The aim of this study is to examine what kind of discourses can be found in the public expert debate in the news media and in the public lay discourse from the news media comment field regarding the Milk Myths campaign. Milk has a historically strong position in Finnish food culture, and because of this Milk Myths campaign has caused a stir. The theoretical framework of the dissertation is related to Finnish food culture, its tension and changes, food policy and food in media discussions. The topic is strongly connected to the Finnish food culture and its tensions. The changes and tensions in the food culture are notoriously discussed and may create confrontations between interlocutors. The research questions are: 1 What kind of discourses can be found in the expert speech related to Oatly’s Milk Myths campaign in the news media? 2 What kind of discourses can be found in the public debate about Oatly’s Milk Myths campaign? The material for the dissertation was three news articles and one news comment field based on Milk Myths campaign. The news articles were found in Helsingin Sanomat, Iltalehti and MTV. The comment field was related to Helsingin Sanomat’s news coverage Milk Myths campaign. The data was analyzed using discourse analysis. The discourses found in the news material were named health, environmental and economic discourses, as well as a discourse of confrontation. The discourses found in the public debate were named the discourses on the defense of milk and animal welfare, as well as the discourse on a boycott, the environment and Finnishness. In conclusion, the discourses found the research were tense both internally and with other discourses. The discourse was as polarized and dichotomous as the discourse found in previous studies regarding food wars

Design of a touch user interface for a quick ordering system in restaurants

Ravintoloissa asioiminen on pitkään tapahtunut samaa kaavaa käyttäen. Digitalisaatio on näkynyt ravintoloissa lähinnä kassajärjestelmissä, muuttaen ravintolatyöntekijöiden kassaa kirjaamista helpommaksi. Diplomityössä viedään asiaa vielä eteenpäin siirtäen asiakkaalle vastuun tilaamisesta, jolloin henkilökunnalle jää enemmän aikaa ravintolan muihin askareisiin. Asiakkaiden ravintolassa käynti nopeutuu, eikä tarvitse odottaa tarjoilijaa tuomaan ruokalistoja tai laskua asiakkaalle. Diplomityössä suunniteltu pikakassajärjestelmä on yhdistelmä sähköistä ruokalistaa ja kassajärjestelmää. Suomessa ravintolan pikakassajärjestelmiä ei ole vielä laajassa käytössä ja tuskin menee kauaakaan, kun sellainen Suomeen saapuu. Ulkomailla vastaavanlaisia järjestelmiä on käytössä lähinnä pikaruokaravintoloissa. Pikakassajärjestelmässäni on kaksi mahdollista toteutustapaa, joista toinen on ravintolassa oleva järjestelmä ja toinen ihmisten mukana älypuhelimessa kulkeva sovellus. Idea ravintolan pikakassajärjestelmään syntyi Budapestissa vieraillessani, jossa huomasin, kuinka huono kassajärjestelmä myyjällä oli käytössä. Ruokakauppojen pikakassat olivat juuri silloin saapuneet Suomeen ja päätin yhdistää ravintolan kassajärjestelmän ja ruokakaupan pikakassajärjestelmän toisiinsa. Diplomityössä kehitetään ja suunnitellaan konsepti ravintolassa toimivalle pikakassajärjestelmälle sekä matkapuhelimella toimiva vastaava järjestelmä, jolla pystyy tilaamaan ruokaa niin etukäteen ravintolasta noudettavaksi, kuin ravintolapöydästäkin. Järjestelmät ovat vaihtoehtoiset keskenään tai molempia voi käyttää samanaikaisesti. Testit tehtiin yhdessä kahden ravintolan kanssa sekä asiakkaiden kanssa. Testeissä käytettiin paperiprototyyppiä järjestelmästä. Testit suoritettiin henkilökohtaisina haastatteluina ja käyttäjätestauksena. Testeissä haastateltaville annettiin suoritettavia tehtäviä käyttöliittymän normaalia käyttöä ajatellen. Pikakassajärjestelmä ratkaisee ravintolassa pullonkaulaksi syntyviä jonoja kassalle ja vähentää ravintolassa tarvittavaa henkilökuntaa. Järjestelmän avulla ravintola pystyy palvelemaan päivässä useampia asiakkaita verrattuna perinteiseen ravintolatoimintaan

The effectiveness of the teacher education program of secondary school teachers at the College of the Pacific

In recognition of this unprecedented challenge, does the curriculum of the teacher education program of secondary school teachers at the College of the Pacific meet the needs of its candidates? Does the secondary teacher education program adequately equip them to make their place in the secondary schools of today? Are they prepared academically and professionally? Are they prepared for community leadership? It is in an attempt to determine how completely the secondary teacher education program of College of the Pacific meets the needs of its graduates that the School of Education of the College of the Pacific has undertaken this study. Hence, this study will attempt to portray the effectiveness of the secondary teacher education program at the College of the Pacific in meeting the needs of its candidates academically, professionally, and in community leadership. In order to determine the effectiveness of this teacher education program, the study will analyze: (1) The education and professional status of the College of the Pacific secondary teacher education graduates.; (2) Guidance in the secondary teacher education program at the College of the Pacific.; (3) The academic education of the secondary teacher education program graduates of the College of the Pacific.; (4) The professional education of the secondary teacher education graduates of the College of the Pacific.; (5) The participation of the secondary teacher education graduates of the College of the Pacific in community activities in the community in which he teaches

Use of data from flight data recorder for aircraft maintenance

Na základě této analýzy navrhuje trend monitoring systém založený na existující struktuře a datech ze zapisovače letových údajů.This diploma thesis deals with analysis of existing solutions for collecting maintenance data and technical condition of the aircraft. Based on this analysis, it proposes a trend monitoring system based on the existing structure and data from the flight data recorder.
