We report a Talbot bands-based optical coherence tomography (OCT) system capable of producing longitudinal B-scan OCT images and en-face scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (SLO) images of the human retina in-vivo, with various degrees of simultaneity

Cooperative Processing: An Agenda for Research

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to explore the potential research agenda for Cooperative Processing (COP). COP is a method of processing in which communications is an integral part of the process of executing an application. Numerous innovative products that support COP are starting to appear on the market. However, as is usually the case with any new technology, many organizations have not yet implemented COP. They have embraced a wait and see attitude. Such a stance can be attributed to the newness of the applications operating in COP mode and to the lack of data demonstrating COP\u27S uses and benefits. For example, no data, at present, demonstrates basic COP efficacy. Among many possible research areas this paper suggests topics such as: potential COP users, types of applications benefiting from the COP processing mode, and organizational and technological factors involved in COP implementation

Visual Process Language: An Environment That Enhances Inventiveness in the System Development Process -- a Theoretical Perspective

    Get PDF
This paper provides a theoretical perspective on the effect of computer support on creativity. The assertion is made that artifacts of IS do not substantially differ from those of art and science, and that the creative processes leading to the artifacts are similar. It further proposes that the use of newly available computer technology, specifically, the Visual Process Language (VPL) will have much to offer in terms of augmenting creativity when constructing IS artfacts. We postulate that VPL assists the first insight, preparation and illumination steps of the creative process, and that both Association/Images and Progressive Abstraction techniques are embedded in VPL

The characteristic exponents of the falling ball model

We study the characteristic exponents of the Hamiltonian system of nn (2\ge 2) point masses m1,,mnm_1,\dots,m_n freely falling in the vertical half line {qq0}\{q|\, q\ge 0\} under constant gravitation and colliding with each other and the solid floor q=0q=0 elastically. This model was introduced and first studied by M. Wojtkowski. Hereby we prove his conjecture: All relevant characteristic (Lyapunov) exponents of the above dynamical system are nonzero, provided that m1mnm_1\ge\dots\ge m_n (i. e. the masses do not increase as we go up) and m1m2m_1\ne m_2

Mediatization of Politics During U.S. Presidential Election 2008

The thesis of this paper applies to the mediatization of politics process during American presidential campaign of 2008. It is entrenched in the theory of political communication. Because of the primary assumptions in the analysis below, political communication is considered mainly from perspective of the models of relations between the mass media and politics, which are treated as systems. It is justified because those relations influence the abovementioned systems and play the biggest role in affecting mass society and culture. In this thesis, the public is considered as having less influence on entire process of political communication. In order to clarify the subject of the research, the division into structural and functional mediatization was created. Structural mediatization, which is the main subject of the analysis, occurs when structures of the media and political systems come into dependence and subordination relation. Parts of the media system dominate over the analogical elements in the political system, internalizing media logic. Individual elements of the political world comply to the media logic and the media orders. Subjects of the political system implement political marketing methods to use the dominant role of the media in the process. Functional mediatization can be defined as a transfer of systemic relations at the smallest possible level – specific case in micro scale, when the medium controls a political actor. Here, the mediatization takes its most radical form. The medium on every stage of constructin
