    Development of electrochemical sensors by nanofabrication techniques for biological and medical diagnostics.

    2012/2013In this work the fabrication and characterization of boron-doped diamond (BDD) nanoelectrode arrays are discussed. NEAs were obtained by creating an array of nanoholes by electron beam lithography (EBL) and Nanoimprint Lithography in a thin film of polycarbonate deposited on top of the macroelectrode. This approach leads to the formation of recessed nanoelectrodes. NEAs have been characterized with cyclic voltammetry and have provided voltammetric signals controlled by pure radial diffusion. Short ss-DNA have been immobilized on polycarbonate surface and hybridization experiments were carried out. Fluorescent and enzymatic labels were used in order to detect immobilization and hybridization of DNA. ECL preliminar experiment were also carried out on our NEAs.XXVI Ciclo198

    A quantitative multivariate methodology for unsupervised class identification in pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) plant leaves size

    Aim of study: Genetic diversity of pistachio, can be evaluated by using different descriptors, as adopted in international certification systems. Mainly the descriptors are morphological traits as leaf, which represents an important organ for its sensibility to growth conditions during the expansion phase. This study adopted a rapid and quantitative non-hierarchic clustering classification (k-means), to extract size classes basing on the contemporary combination of different morphological traits (i.e., leaf stalk length, terminal leaf length, terminal leaf width and terminal leaf ratio) of a varietal collection composed by 21 pistachio cultivars.Area of study: Worldwide.Material and methods: The unsupervised non-hierarchic clustering technique was adopted to the entire samples of pistachio leaves from k=2 to k=15 for both four morphological variables (i.e., leaf stalk length, terminal leaf length, terminal leaf width and terminal leaf ratio) and three morphological variables (i.e., terminal leaf length, terminal leaf width and terminal leaf ratio).Main results: A classification model only on the three morphological variables (for results of statistical analysis in which the groups resulted to be more separated and different for all the variables), with k= 5 (five groups), was constructed using a non-linear artificial neural network approach. The percentages of bad prediction in both training and testing resulted equal to 0%. The ‚Äúterminal leaf length‚ÄĚ returned the higher impact (44.89%).Research highlights: The contemporary combination of different morphological leaf traits, allowed to create an automatic classification of size classes of great importance for cultivar identification and comparison

    Surgical treatment of axillary artery aneurysms through a transaxillary approach

    BACKGROUND: Axillary artery aneurysms are rare. Due to their anatomical peculiarities, their therapeutic management is individualized. Minimal invasive endovascular treatments are gaining increased popularity. However, surgical solutions are associated with better long-term patency. CASE REPORT: We describe two cases of isolated axillary artery aneurysm, managed with surgical resection and graft interposition. The patients had not experienced any ischemic symptoms, pain or disabling swelling of the upper extremity. One patient underwent in situ reconstruction with a venous graft and the other with a prosthetic graft. The early postoperative recovery was uneventfull. After a follow-up time of 12 months, both reconstructions remain patent and with not upper limb symptoms. CONCLUSION: Surgical repair of axillary artery aneurysms is associated with good results, but larger cohorts are necessary to confirm our experience

The study performs an analysis of the interactions generated in Facebook of the largest private hospital in Spain, the Povisa Hospital, between 2016 and 2018. The results show that the posts that are most shared are those that transmit positive emotions, with images of patients and health professionals, with direct and affirmative phrases, coming from our own sources of information, and told through real stories lived by patients. The conclusions reached in this study can serve as effective formulas of connection between other hospitals and their social audience

Scopo della ricerca è quello di approfondire le conoscenze sulle piante endemiche della Sardegna pubblicando il risultato delle indagini in maniera uniforme sotto forma di scheda. Lo schema di trattazione comprende tutti gli aspetti di un'entità, come andrebbero proposti per una flora critica: sinonimia, descrizione, identificazione del typus, etimologia, iconografie, numero cromosomico, tipo biologico, fenologia, areale, materiale d'erbario esaminato, ecologia, note e bibliografia. Ogni entità, inoltre, è sempre stata corredata da un'iconografia e da una cartina di distribuzione in Sardegna costruita per punti solo da exsiccata revisionati
