    Design and analysis of a displacement sensor-integrated compliant microgripper based on parallel structure

    This study evaluates the displacement sensitivity of a new compliant microgripper. The microgripper is designed based on a four-bar mechanism and the concept of a compliant mechanism. The effects of the width of the right circular hinge, the thickness of microgripper, and the material properties on the dis-placement sensitivity are considered via using the finite element method. In the beginning, the stress and deformation of the compliant microgripper are evaluated. Subsequently, the displacement of the microgripper is then analyzed. The results showed that the design parameter and the displacement sensitivity have a close relationship. To increase the grasping reliability and measure the displacement or force, a micro-displacement sensor is integrated with the proposed microgripper. Finally, the modeling and analysis of the proposed sensor are conducted

    A Phenomenological Study of Writing Error Correction: Perspectives of an English Language Learner in Two Different Contexts

    In second language writing, student errors in grammatical structure, word choice, or idea expression are a common phenomenon. How these errors should be treated poses a challenging question. In this qualitative study I attempt to explore the impacts of some current methods of error correction in second language writing through a phenomenological study of an English language learners who studied in Vietnam and the United States. The study participant was invited to reflect his learning experiences in an interview with the researcher. Theme-based analysis of the interview revealed that the manner in which teachers correct errors can have a considerable impact on student motivation to improve second language writing. The study participant indicated that over-correction of language errors inhibited his motivation to write in second language and that language teachers may consider providing an adequate amount of correction and feedback. Pedagogical recommendations are made to help teachers make appropriate corrections for their students’ writing papers.     Perceptual Learning Style Preference for Medical Terminology: A Case Study of 20 ESP Students

    Due to the globalization, there has been a great demand for learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in different fields. How to teach medical terminology effectively to pre-service medical professionals is one of the main challenges that ESP instructors encounter in their English in Medicine classrooms. A variety of factors, including but are not limited to student learning style preference, prior knowledge, classroom facilities should be considered. In this study, we conducted a case study of 20 students in an ESP class to explore their learning style preference. This study employed two data collection instruments: questionnaire and interview. Data analysis interestingly revealed that the location of students’ secondary education has an influence on their perceptual learning style preference of medical terminology at tertiary level. Drawing on the results, this study argues for a balance between student learning preference and teaching mythology.     EFL Agreeing and Disagreeing Discourses in Facebook

    Agreeing and disagreeing are two common speech acts that occur in social conversations. Driven by the fact that there are direct and indirect way for expressing agreement and disagreement, and there are also mitigating strategies to protect interlocutors from face-threatening in disagreeing discourses, this study examined EFL students’ use of discourse strategies in their Facebook interaction. Thirty-four pre-intermediate EFL students at a university in Vietnam took part in this study. Data analysis shows that direct discourses is linguistically limited while indirect ones exhibit wider language use. Students also demonstrate two different directions of using mitigating strategies for their disagreeing discourses. Some pedagogical implications are also suggested in this study.     Application of Google Docs in English for Specific Purposes Collaborative Writing

    English language learners today have considerable opportunities to practice their writing skill via their peer interaction in Web 2.0 platforms, such as Blogs, Wikis, and Google Docs. Different studies have investigated the influence of these platforms on student writing collaboration and interaction, but few studies had explored factors that may affect English for Specific Purposes (ESP) student collaborative writing in Vietnamese settings. This study, therefore, attempts to explore the impact of four factors, namely gender, student attitudes towards learning English, student economic status, and availability of English at home on Google Docs-based interaction and collaborative writing outcome at a southern university in Vietnam. Fifty participants took part in this study and they worked collaboratively in small groups in Google Docs to finish two writing tasks and complete a survey afterwards. Analysis of their survey, interaction, and writing outcome suggests that gender, student attitudes towards learning English, and the number of books available at their homes have an impact on their writing outcome whereas their economic status did not seemingly affect their writing quality. Some pertinent pedagogical implications are also discussed in this paper.     Extended state observer based load frequency controller for three area interconnected power system

    In this paper, we develop a new extended state variable observer based LFC scheme for three-area interconnected power systems. The extended state observerbased load frequency controllers are developed which utilize disturbance estimation techniques. The propose control approach assures that the fluctuating things of the load frequencies reaches to a safer range and the load frequencies can also be made at a very minimal not to have an effect on power quality and power flow in multi-area interconnected power system. The results of the simulations using MATLAB/SIMULINK done did not only address that the proposed newly control method works effectively but also change powerfully the parameter variations of the interconnected areas of the power system. Especially, it works very well to limit disturbances impact on interconnected areas in the system. Therefore, the performance of interconnected power system under different multi-conditions is simulated with the new control method to demonstrate the feasibility of the system

Influenza A keeps on being a major threat to public health worldwide; especially if one virus can mutate itself so that it acquires the capacity for human to human transmission of H1N1 as well as the high death rate of H5N1. The existing g-INFO (Grid-based Information Network for Flu Observation) project provides a complete system for monitoring flu virus on the Grid. We present here a portal that operates on top of the g-INFO system as a solution for non-grid users to utilize grid services for analyzing molecular biology data of Influenza A

    Cider Production from King Mandarin (Citrus nobilis Lour.) and Its Antioxidant Activity

    With the necessity of diversifying alcoholic beverages, cider has become a kind of drink that can fulfill this demand. This is because the cider will be diversified depending on the kinds of fruit that are chosen to be used for the cider fermentation. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of dilution ratio, Brix, pH, and yeast concentration on the production of cider from king mandarin (Citrus nobilis Lour.), and to evaluate the analytical characteristics and antioxidant activity of the product. After the investigation, it can be claimed that the dilution of the juice causes the ethanol content to decrease, whereas the increase of Brix, pH, and yeast concentration makes the ethanol content increase. However, the proportional increase in the ethanol content with Brix, pH, and yeast concentration has its limitations. Specifically, when the Brix and the yeast concentrations were, respectively, higher than 16°Brix and 0.04%, the ethanol content tended to maintain the same. This is also the same when the pH was lower than 4.5. In addition, by using the DPPH and ABTS●+ methods, the antioxidant activity of cider is estimated to be lower than the one of the juice before fermentation, which is smaller than 3.78 times for the DPPH method and 3.76 times for the ABTS●+ method

    Circular No. 10/2021/TT-BYT stipulated that several hypoglycemic drugs, such as metformin hydrochloride, are prohibited from adulterating medicinal herbal preparations. Therefore, this study aims to develop a procedure to detect five hypoglycemic drugs, including metformin hydrochloride, glibenclamide, gliclazide, glimepiride, and glipizide, adulterated in herbal preparations by using the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The chromatographic program includes the methanol:phosphate buffer pH 3 mobile phase 70/30 (v/v), chromatographic column C18 (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm), and analysis time of 25 minutes. The procedure has high specificity, accuracy and precision, according to AOAC. We detected six herbal products reacting positively with glibenclamide and one with both metformin hydrochloride and glibenclamide.Thông tư số 10/2021/TT-BYT quy định một số thuốc hạ glucose máu, như metformin hydroclorid, là các chất cấm trộn lẫn trong chế phẩm có nguồn gốc từ dược liệu. Do đó, mục tiêu nghiên cứu này là xây dựng quy trình phát hiện năm loại hoạt chất hạ glucose máu, gồm metformin hydroclorid, glibenclamid, gliclazid, glimepirid và glipizid, trộn lẫn trong chế phẩm có nguồn gốc dược liệu bằng phương pháp sắc ký lỏng hiệu năng cao (HPLC). Chúng tôi đã xây dựng được chương trình sắc ký gồm hệ pha động methanol:đệm phosphat pH 3 với tỷ lệ 30/70 (v/v), cột sắc ký C18 (250 × 4,6 mm, 5 μm), và thời gian phân tích 25 phút. Phương pháp thẩm định có tính đặc hiệu cao, độ đúng, độ lặp lại và độ tái lặp cao, đạt yêu cầu theo AOAC. Chúng tôi đã phát hiện bảy mẫu chế phẩm dược liệu dương tính trong đó sáu mẫu dương tính với glibenclamid và một mẫu dương tính đồng thời với metformin và glibenclamid
