Quantifying Viscoelastic Properties of Nylon-6,6 Actuators

Orthostatic Hypotension (OH) is a prevalent condition affecting 52.1% of stroke patients, characterized by a drop in atrial blood pressure upon standing. This is due to the pooling of blood in the abdomen and leg, and OH results in debilitating symptoms of nausea, lightheadedness, and dizziness. Current management techniques are limited and not very effective, so I propose an active, compression abdominal band that contracts when needed. This device should have a minimal design, so nylon-6,6 actuators, powerful artificial muscles created from fishing line and conductive thread, were chosen as the compressive element. Given that previous research focused on strength and force-excursion characteristics of these actuators, this study focuses on determining their viability for this application by conducting stress-relaxation and creep tests on single actuators (sample sizes of 10) and on a forty actuator band. Stress-relaxation results indicate that actuators will be able to maintain tension levels required effective compression 18 times as long as necessary. Creep testing is inconclusive due to oscillations found in the data as a result of low processing power of the Instron machine used to conduct tests. Despite the fact that more tests need to be conducted to resolve various limitations of this study,I conclude that I can move forward to create a prototype of the abdominal band.Biomedical Engineerin

Management of e-Resources in R amp; D Centers: A Case Study of the Information Center at NAL13;

The developments in information technology and their applications to library and information services have given new dimension to the entire spectrum of information management. The information generated is usually stored in four physical media: paper, film, optical, and magnetic disks. The e-document be it a book, journal, technical report, conference proceedings is portable; has random access to its contents; and the document can also be a multimedia object, in that it may contain not only text, but also graphics, drawings, photographs or video. Now we have the emergence of publications over the electronic networks and the activity took off in a big way following the invention of the World Wide Web. The Open Access movement is becoming the order of the day. More than 3000 journals are free on net for anybody to access. A number of Institutional repositories and e-Prints archives have thrown challenge to the publishing industry. Consortium approach through different pricing, management and licensing models is enabling the libraries to provide access to thousands of e- journals, e-books and other kinds of e-documents. The Information center at NAL with its state-of-the-art library has progressed a good deal in this direction by acquiring different kind of documents especially e-form, cataloguing amp; processing them appropriately, storing and giving access to its patrons not only in library premises, but on to the desk tops spread in three different campuses through laboratory LAN and also extending selected services through Internet for the benefit of any body from any part of the world. 13; Created and maintained by ICAST the Portal x2018;AeroInfox2019; (www.aeroinfo.org.in) serves as one window information search facility for Web sources in aerospace science and technology. This virtual library facilitates multiple approach to information seekers as the web sources are indexed and organised using different schemes of classification including NASA subject categories. The ICAST site (www.icast.org.in), apart from giving detailed information about library sources including books, journals, E-journals, databases and technical reports makes available different search tools for its users. Other details like working hours, library rules, staff details, contact persons, etc are provided. One can submit an online query and suggest documents for acquisition using online forms provided. The Library Database (OPAC) is probably is single largest in the country with more than 3.25 lakh bibliographic records of books, technical reports, patents, standards, journals, etc. ICAST users can search International databases like Aerospace Database, NTIS, J-Gate, Medline, etc through campus LAN. Users can access more than 2500 full text journals covering titles published by Elsevier (ScienceDirect), ASME, AIAA, Springer, John Wiley, OUP, CUP, AMS, World Scientific, few Annual Series, etc. Created by ICAST an e-journals gateway with browse and search (alphabetical and subject wise) facility for titles provides access to more than 700 journals available free on the net. A Rare Case of Isolated torsion of Haematosalphinx Presenting as Acute Abdomen During Pregnancy

Isolated fallopian tubal torsion is a rare non obstetric cause for pain abdomen during pregnancy.We report a case of a 34 year old second gravida who presented with history of amennorrhoe of 7 months, colicky pain in the left iliac fossa , with 2 episodes of vomiting. A Trans vaginal scan revealed a left ovarian cyst. An emergency laparotomy was performed for suspected torsion or haemorrhage into an ovarian cyst. Surprisingly ovaries were normal and a congested and necrotic left tubal torsion with a tubal collection (haematosalphinx) was identified and a salpingectomy was then performed. The differential diagnosis is discussed and the literature is reviewed as it is a very rare clinical entity

Constraints of Bee Keepers Uttarakannada

A detailed study on beekeeping and beekeepers of Uttarakannada showed major administrative, technical, and financial constraints. Lack of subsidy to local bee boxes (17.34%), tax on extractor and bee box (18.8%), lack of supply of colonies along with boxes (15.6%) and sanction of migration grant (15.49%) are the major administrative and financial constraints of beekeepers. Non-accessibility of modern bee management technology for the practices of queen rearing (6%) and value addition of bee products are the other constraints (6.25%).Lack of awareness in disease control because of knowledge practice gap is the other problem to be noticed

Estimated incidence of Crigler-Najjar syndrome(CNS) is 1 case per 1,000,000 births(1 million). The overall prevalence of CN syndrome is unknown, with only several hundred people reported to have this disease. It is interestingly very rare to encounter a pregnant adult women with congenital jaundice. Pregnancy in CN type II patients is a diagnostic and a therapeutic challenge because of the high risk of bilirubin encephalopathy with serious neurological damage as life-threatening complications for the fetus. Social and Economic Auditing of Beekeeping in Uttara Kannada, India

Social and economic auditing of beekeeping in Uttara Kannada conducted between May 2008 – May 2011, showed that all beekeepers practiced beekeeping with Apisceranaindica and it is profitable as subsidiary industry. Most beekeepers of the study area acquired training in beekeeping from KVIC (57.97%), KVIB (3.9%) in collaboration with Beekeepers Cooperative Societies. NGO and trained beekeepers also played significant role in beekeeping training. The survey on the socio-economic aspects revealed that, 93% of beekeepers are happy with job satisfaction. 97.6% members of family liked beekeeping and 68% spouses participated in beekeeping. Only 3.6% beekeepers were involved in the preparation of value added products; 65.1% of beekeepers were not happy with loan facilities; and 80.7% of beekeepers were satisfied with marketing condition
