A method for testing the cosmic homogeneity with Shannon entropy

We propose a method for testing cosmic homogeneity based on the Shannon entropy in Information theory and test the potentials and limitations of the method on Monte Carlo simulations of some homogeneous and inhomogeneous 3D point process in a finite region of space. We analyze a set of N-body simulations to investigate the prospect of determining the scale of homogeneity with the proposed method and show that the method could serve as an efficient tool for the study of homogeneity.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRA

Unparticle Decay of Neutrinos and its Possible Signatures at a Km2{\rm Km}^2 Detector for (3+1) Flavour Framework

We consider a scenario where ultra high energy neutrinos undergo unparticle decay during its passage from its cosmological source to Earth. The idea of unparticle had been first proposed by Georgi by considering the possible existence of an unknown scale invariant sector at high energies and the unparticles in this sector manifest itself below a dimensional transmutation scale ΛU\Lambda_{\cal U}. We then explore the possible signature of such decaying neutrinos to unparticles at a square kilometer detector such as IceCube.Comment: 20 pages LaTeX, 5 eps figure

Abundance analysis of cool extreme helium star: LSS 3378

Abundance analysis of the cool extreme helium (EHe) star LSS 3378 is presented. The abundance analysis is done using LTE line formation and LTE model atmospheres constructed for EHe stars. The atmosphere of LSS 3378 shows evidence of H-burning, He-burning, and s-process nucleosynthesis. The derived abundances of iron-peak and alpha-elements indicate absence of selective fractionation or any other processes that can distort chemical composition of these elements. Hence, the Fe abundance (log epsilon(Fe) = 6.1) is adopted as an initial metallicity indicator. The measured abundances of LSS 3378 are compared with those of R Coronae Borealis (RCB) stars and with rest of the EHe stars as a group.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables, MNRAS format, accepted for publication in MNRA
