    No full text
The aim of the project is to contribute to the study of Linguistic historiography, specifically, Lusophone Missionary Linguistics. The study highlights an 18th century manuscript, a grammatical document of missionary production that has always remained at the margins of disciplinary debate. Through a philological-linguistic analysis of the corpus and a biographical reconstruction of the author, I aim to contribute to historiographical research of a linguistic and Lusophone grammaticography nature. The work, a Malayalam language grammar with Portuguese metalanguage, entitled Gramatica LinguĂŠ MalavaricĂŠ. Samscredam, by the Indian cleric Joseph Kariattil, is a peculiar text because it allows us to question the concepts and delimitations that lie at the basis of missionary linguistics, bringing an innovative perspective and a different approach to the discipline. The second objective of the investigation is to demonstrate how the Portuguese language played a central role in the international communication of the 18th century, obtaining the status of lingua franca, vehicular and cultural, as well as being used as a descriptive metalanguage for the interpretation of the so-called "exotic" languages, alongside Latin

BECOME: A Modular Recommender System for Coaching and Promoting Empowerment in Healthcare

In this chapter, we present BECOME (Behavior Change recOMender systEm), a modular Recommender System built to cope with issues like personalization, adaptation, and delivery of contents pertinently designed to solve idiosyncrasies of various topics in the healthcare field. The main objective is to empower citizens or patients to make informed decisions to improve their health condition. It deals with a double-edged personalization process as one of the key aspects to fostering self-empowerment: content dynamically personalized and adapted as new information is gathered and flexibility in the strategies and timings of the delivery. Thus, we take personalization one step further by not only tailoring the content, which is the standard customization strategy, but also adapting its timings and complexity in a dynamic manner while dealing with the feeling of having an entity (the coach) behind, ready to help. To show the modularity of the system and the diverse ways of interaction, different studies representing various use cases are presented

A Federated Learning Framework for Stenosis Detection

This study explores the use of Federated Learning (FL) for stenosis detection in coronary angiography images (CA). Two heterogeneous datasets from two institutions were considered: Dataset 1 includes 1219 images from 200 patients, which we acquired at the Ospedale Riuniti of Ancona (Italy); Dataset 2 includes 7492 sequential images from 90 patients from a previous study available in the literature. Stenosis detection was performed by using a Faster R-CNN model. In our FL framework, only the weights of the model backbone were shared among the two client institutions, using Federated Averaging (FedAvg) for weight aggregation. We assessed the performance of stenosis detection using Precision (P rec), Recall (Rec), and F1 score (F1). Our results showed that the FL framework does not substantially affects clients 2 performance, which already achieved good performance with local training; for client 1, instead, FL framework increases the performance with respect to local model of +3.76%, +17.21% and +10.80%, respectively, reaching P rec = 73.56, Rec = 67.01 and F1 = 70.13. With such results, we showed that FL may enable multicentric studies relevant to automatic stenosis detection in CA by addressing data heterogeneity from various institutions, while preserving patient privacy
