J├│zef P├│┼éturzycki, recalling his contribution as the author, editor-in-chief of the ÔÇťAndragogical YearbookÔÇŁ and the inspirer of activities aimed at preserving the knowledge of folk high schools in the social (and scientific) memory from the 1990s to the second decade of the 21st century, i.e. at the time when these institutions were almost forgotten. The sketch touches on selected threads regarding the renewal of the Polish folk high schools movement on the basis of the Folk High Schools Development Programme for 2020ÔÇô2030 and the Polish Network of Folk High Schools (OSUL) established several years ago, and was created on the basis of the participation of both authors in the 1st National Festival of Folk High Schools in Kosza┼ékowo in the summer of 2022.Autorzy dedykuj─ů sw├│j tekst pami─Öci prof. The article is an attempt to partially summarize the last two decades of functioning of the Kashubian Folk High School (KFHS) in Wie┼╝yca near Szymbark. The four person author team connected with this non-formal adult education institution tries to pick up from the rich and multi-topic activity of this institution the components that have always been present there in the 21st century, which, de facto, constitutes it identity. These aspects of ÔÇťlasting durationÔÇŁ include: ideological and axiological foundations, base, local and regional environment, methodological-program elements, both the Grundtvigian ones ÔÇô developed by all folk high schools (FHS) on the basis of the concept of ÔÇťschool for lifeÔÇŁ, and the individual ones developed for an individual educational environment ÔÇô developed based on accumulated experience in this area, including international cooperation, etc. The authors also show the basic directions of changes that the Kashubian Folk High School experiences during the period of 2001ÔÇô2020. They were connected with new social, political and economic challenges that should be quickly faced with an effective educational offer meeting the expectations of the social environment of the institution, but also with the changes of ownership and legal situation of KFHS. Undoubtedly, a┬ásignificant change was the emergence of a┬ánew leader in the educational institution presented in the sketch of the 1st of January 2018 and connected with it a┬ácertain remodeling of the vision of its functioning in the future. The article draws a┬ápicture of Kashubian Folk High School as a┬ávaluable entity of nonformal adult education institution, actively and effectively acting for educational support and development of rural (and small town) communities of Kashubian and Pomeranian regions, which has also gained recognition over the years that goes well beyond the region in which it operates.Artyku┼é stanowi pr├│b─Ö cz─Ö┼Ťciowego podsumowania ostatnich dw├│ch dekad funkcjonowania Kaszubskiego Uniwersytetu Ludowego (KUL) w┬áWie┼╝ycy ko┼éo Szymbarku. W artykule poddano analizie wybrane w─ůtki z historii Towarzystwa Uniwersytet├│w Ludowych Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, kt├│re dzia┼éa┼éo w latach 1945-1948. Niestety w wyniku odg├│rnych decyzji politycznych Towarzystwo zosta┼éo najpierw po┼é─ůczone z inn─ů organizacj─ů w Towarzystwo Uniwersytetu Robotniczego i Ludowego, by w roku 1950 ulec ca┼ékowitej likwidacji. The article analyzes selected threads from the history of the Folk High Schools of the Republic of Poland Society (in Polish: Towarzystwo Uniwersytet├│w Ludowych Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej), which operated in the years 1945-1948. It was an independent educational organization that coordinated the activities of folk high schools in the first years after World War II ÔÇô that is, the period in which these institutions reached the peak of their development in Poland, based on pre-war experience and preparatory work carried out during the occupation. Unfortunately, as a result of top-down political decisions, the Society was first merged with another organization into the Society of Workers' and People's University (in Polish: Towarzystwo Uniwersytetu Robotniczego i Ludowego), and finally it was liquidated in 1950

Urgent pericardiocentesis is more frequently needed after left circumflex coronary artery perforation

Background: Coronary artery perforation (CAP) is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) due to the risk of cardiac tamponade. Strikingly, in contrast to numerous analyses of CAP predictors, only few studies were focused on the predictors of tamponade after PCI, once iatrogenic CAP has occurred. Our aim was to search for clinical and periprocedural characteristics, including the coronary artery involved, associated with the development of acute cardiac tamponade among patients experiencing CAP. Methods: From the medical records of nine centers of invasive cardiology in southern Poland, we retrospectively selected 81 patients (80% with acute myocardial infarction) who had iatrogenic CAP with a visible extravasation jet during angiography (corresponding to type III CAP by the Ellis classification, CAPIII) over a 15-year period (2005–2019). Clinical, angiographic and periprocedural characteristics were compared between the patients who developed acute cardiac tamponade requiring urgent pericardiocentesis in the cathlab (n = 21) and those with CAPIII and without tamponade (n = 60). Results: CAPIII were situated in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) or its diagonal branches (51%, n = 41), right coronary artery (RCA) (24%, n = 19), left circumflex coronary artery (LCx) (16%, n = 13), its obtuse marginal branches (7%, n = 6) and left main coronary artery (2%, n = 2). Acute cardiac tamponade occurred in 24% (10 of 41), 21% (4 of 19) and 37% (7 of 19) patients who experienced CAPIII in the territory of LAD, RCA and LCx, respectively. There were no significant differences in the need for urgent pericardiocentesis (37%) in patients with CAPIII in LCx territory (i.e., the LCx or its obtuse marginal branches) compared to CAPIII in the remaining coronary arteries (23%) (p = 0.24). However, when CAPIII in the LCx were separated from CAPIII in obtuse marginal branches, urgent pericardiocentesis was more frequently performed in patients with CAPIII in the LCx (54%, 7 of 13) compared to subjects with CAPIII in an artery other than the LCx (21%, 14 of 68) (p = 0.03). The direction of this tendency remained consistent regardless of CAP management: prolonged balloon inflation only (n = 26, 67% vs. 13%, p = 0.08) or balloon inflation with subsequent stent implantation (n = 55, 50% vs. 24%, p = 0.13). Besides LCx involvement, no significant differences in other characteristics were observed between patients according to the need of urgent pericardiocentesis. Conclusions: CAPIII in the LCx appears to lead to a higher risk of acute cardiac tamponade compared to perforations involving other coronary arteries. This association may possibly be linked to distinct features of LCx anatomy and/or well-recognized delays in diagnosis and management of LCx-related acute coronary syndromes
