Demonstrating the potential of Accurate Absolute Cross-grain Stress and Orientation correlation using Electron Backscatter Diffraction
We report a first exploration of High-angular-Resolution Electron Backscatter
Diffraction, without using simulated Electron Backscatter Diffraction patterns
as a reference, for absolute stress and orientation measurements in
polycrystalline materials. By co-correlating the pattern center and fully
exploiting crystal symmetry and plane-stress, simultaneous correlation of all
overlapping regions of interest in multiple direct-electron-detector,
energy-filtered Electron Backscatter Diffraction patterns is achieved. The
potential for highly accurate measurement of absolute stress, crystal
orientation and pattern center is demonstrated on a virtual polycrystalline
case-study, showing errors respectively below 20 MPa (or 1e-4 in strain), 7e-5
rad and 0.06 pixels.Comment: Manuscript as accepted for publication in Scripta Materiali
The Dynamism and Transformation of “Tradition” : Factors Affecting the Development of Powwows in Southwestern Ontario
In this article the origins of selected powwows in southwestern Ontario are examined drawing on interviews with organizers and participants as well as media analysis. The author illustrates the complicated history of and influences on these gatherings, and she also highlights some of the ongoing challenges inherent in organizing these gatherings. The nuances of the term “tradition” vis-à -vis contemporary cultural gatherings that continue to change from year to year are also explored.
Children’s Folk Music in Canada: Histories, Performers and Canons
In this paper the author explores the origins, growth and popularity of prominent children’s performers and their repertoires in English Canada from the 1960s-1980s, arguing that this period saw the formation of a canon of children’s folk music in Canada. Various factors that have supported the creation of a children’s folk music canon are highlighted, including the role of folk song collectors, folk singers, educational institutions, media outlets and the role of parents in the perpetuation of a particular canon of folk songs for children
Northern Style Powwow Music: Musical Features and Meanings
Modern powwows are important social rituals closely linked to expressing affirmations of Native identities. Based on her fieldwork in southwestern Ontario and Southern Alberta, Anna Hoefnagels explores methods of classifying powwow music that may serve as pedagogical tools, and ways of teaching and understanding Northernstyle powwow music
Review of \u3ci\u3eMusic of the First Nations: Tradition and Innovation in Native North America\u3c/i\u3e edited by Tara Browner
This collection of nine essays examines diverse traditions and issues in contemporary Native American music from a variety of perspectives. The anthology also covers a wide geographic span, ranging from the Inuits of northern Canada to the Choctaws of Mississippi, and the Passamaquoddies of New Brunswick in eastern Canada to the Coast Salish of western Washington. Many of these chapters highlight the movement of Aboriginal people and their music, as well as the transformations and retentions that characterized these movements and interactions with other Aboriginal groups and European settlers. An article addressing intertribal powwow music and another on country music complement the seven Nation-specific articles. These two further reinforce the travel routes, sharing, and interaction characteristic of Native American culture and music-making
Analysis of the economic impact of large-scale deployment of biomass resources for energy and materials in the Netherlands : macro-economics biobased synthesis report
The Bio-based Raw Materials Platform (PGG), part of the Energy Transition in The Netherlands, commissioned the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (LEI) and the Copernicus Institute of Utrecht University to conduct research on the macro-economic impact of large scale deployment of biomass for energy and materials in the Netherlands. Two model approaches were applied based on a consistent set of scenario assumptions: a bottom-up study including technoeconomic projections of fossil and bio-based conversion technologies and a topdown study including macro-economic modelling of (global) trade of biomass and fossil resources. The results of the top-down and bottom-up modelling work are reported separately. The results of the synthesis of the modelling work are presented in this report
