Middle Darriwilian conodont zones in the uppermost San Juan limestone and the lower member of the Las Aguaditas formation, central Precordillera of San Juan, Argentina

The geological province of Precordillera is located in western Argentina. It extends 450 km meridionally and 110 km from east to west (Fig. 1) (Furque and Cuerda, 1979). The Lower Paleozoic stratigraphy is characterized by a thick succession of Cambro-Ordovician limestones, which were deposited in platform environments and interdigitate with clastic slope deposits toward the west (Keller et al., 1993; Astini, 1995).Fil: Feltes, Nicolás Alexis. INNOVATIVE ELECTROMAGNETIC PROTECTION TECHNIQUES AGAINST ADVANCED JAMMING WAVEFORM THREATS

In this thesis, we develop electromagnetic protection (EP) receiver techniques to mitigate the false alarm probability and detection effects generated by transmit waveform shaped noise jammers (TWS-NJs) and deceptive coherent jammers (CJs). Unlike traditional wideband NJ (WB-NJ) and narrowband NJ (NB-NJ) that produce spectral densities almost uniformly distributed across their respective bandwidths, a TWS-NJ assumes apriori knowledge of a signal spectral shape, thereby utilizing the waveform dominant bands in generating jammer noise. While noise jammers produce a significant number of false targets, CJs manipulate and retransmit the received signal to generate a few false targets in the victim receiver. For illustration in this thesis, we utilize the basic rectangular and Hamming pulses as transmit waveforms to evaluate the detection performance effects of the TWS-NJ and CJ waveforms. The bandwidths of the TWS-NJs are parameterized to reflect the effect of practical narrowband constraints. The performance effect of various jammers, including the TWS eigenjammer, on detection performance is also investigated. To mitigate the TWS-NJs, we develop an adaptive matched filter and evaluate performance improvement. To mitigate the CJ, we develop a non-coherent EP matched filter and evaluate false detection rate improvement.Lieutenant, United States NavyApproved for public release; distribution is unlimited

Depression, Anger, Anxiety and Smoking in Pregnant Adolescents

Purpose: To explore the relationships between smoking dependence behavior, depression, anger, and, anxiety in pregnant adolescents. Research hypotheses were: 1. Depression, anger, anxiety, and are mood states that are present in pregnant adolescents who smoke. 2. Depression, anger, and, anxiety are inter-related. 3. Depression, anger, and anxiety affect smoking dependent behavior of pregnant teens who began smoking prior to pregnancy. 4. Depression, anger, and, anxiety affect smoking consumption of pregnant teens who smoke. Methods: Secondary data analysis of baseline data from a longitudinal study, "Nursing Intervention for Young Pregnant Smokers" (PI: S. Albrecht, RO1 NR 03233) was performed. Of 224 eligible adolescents, 142 pregnant, smoker, adolescents signed an informed consent. One-hundred, eight complete and valid cases were analyzed for their responses to the following instruments: Modified State/Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Modified Center for Studies of Depression (CES-D), Confidence and Temptation Scale, Fagerstrom Tolerance Nicotine Dependence Test (FTND). Results: Descriptive and exploratory data analyses were used to identify outliers, assess missing data, and verify assumptions. In the correlational analysis, anger, anxiety, and depression are correlated (p = .000). In additional analysis, self-efficacy was correlated with anger (p = .007), anxiety (p = .001), and FTND score (p= .002). Hierarchial Multiple Regression, controlling for covariates, revealed that self-efficacy significantly predicted smoking dependence behavior (p = .006). Depression, anger, and, anxiety were not realized as predictors in this sample. However, an exploratory analysis of self-efficacy, the confidence that the adolescent express that smoking cessation could be achieved, revealed an inverse relationship to smoking dependence behavior. Conclusions and Implications: Self-efficacy was inversely associated with smoking dependence behavior in this sample, while altered mood states did not influence smoking dependence behavior or smoking consumption. This analysis suggests that enhancing self-efficacy should be tested as a part of the intervention for smoking prevention and cessation programs in adolescents

    The Conceptual Blend

Project Title: The Conceptual Blend Name: Jack Kieran Feltes Major: Digital Arts & Culture Minor: Studio Art Expected Graduation: May 2020 Project Medium: Digital & Print Technology and Software Used: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop Artist Statement: The Conceptual Blend is a project that compiles years of creative ideas and works. The idea behind a personal magazine was born years ago, I wanted to showcase my work in a way that broke away from the traditional idea of a portfolio. I am also very much drawn to the tangible; I find a great deal of value in holding a physical product. The Conceptual Blend was inspired by a few different things, the first was a desire to stand out in a fiercely competitive world. The idea of the personal magazine is to create a hybrid resume, one that showcases my work but also highlights professional work and education. Once the publication is printed, I could use it during job interviews, showcasing my design skills as well as my creativity. My creative process was unique in the sense that it required me to recycle old work in a way that felt fresh and cohesive. Each page highlights a different project, showcasing my illustration, graphic design, and photography skills. I created the layout in Adobe InDesign, but the majority of the content was created or edited in Photoshop and Illustrator. The underlying desire behind this work likely comes from my love of magazines and publication layout. I look at a magazine as the pinnacle of design, creators are required to combine text, color, photos, and illustrations. The world of magazine layout is interesting, regardless of audience or subject matter, the creativity and design expertise is astounding. My respect for publication layout is immense, in a way I feel honored to work in the medium

Community Policing - Comparative Aspects of Community Oriented Police Work

    Get PDF
In the early 1980's, the outlines of a new direction for policing, know as "community policing", began to emerge and take root throughout the United States and many other countries. Since then interest in community policing has grown rapidly and police in many jurisdictions have developed and implemented some form of community policing. Officers were freed to engage in proactive crime prevention. Police operations were more visible, increasing police accountability to the public. Operations were decentralized to meet the needs of various neighborhoods and constituencies. Citizens were encouraged to take more initiative in preventing crimes and became partners with police, improving relations between the police and the public. Evidence from field experiments tested the theory that closer ties between the police and the citizens of the community, raise levels of citizen satisfaction with police services, improve the quality of community life, and lower the levels of fear of crime. The articles in this book were put together after a symposium on the occassion of the 30th anniverary of the Institute of Criminology at the University of Heidelberg. The idea was to summarize and to actualize the discussion on the concept of Community Policing and to consider the actual situation in some Eastern European countries

Distance Education--A Case Study in Practical Application

    Get PDF
An Extension distance education program was an attempt to provide practical information on pest management topics while assessing acceptance by Extension clientele to an alternative form of instruction. Over 94% of participants indicated they would attend another Extension program taught through the use of distance education. Furthermore, an analysis of costs indicates that there was a substantial cost savings realized as a direct result of the distance delivery format utilized. All Extension programs may not be appropriate for distance delivery; however, as educational practitioners, we must have the capacity to determine what instructional method is most appropriate for a given situation
