An H Imaging Survey of the Low-surface-brightness Galaxies Selected from the Fall Sky Region of the 40 ALFALFA \ion{H}{1} Survey
We present the observed H flux and derived star formation rates
(SFRs) for a fall sample of lowsurfacebrightness galaxies (LSBGs). The
sample is selected from the fall sky region of the 40 ALFALFA {\ion{H}{1}}
survey SDSS DR7 photometric data, and all the images were
obtained using the 2.16 m telescope, operated by the National Astronomy
Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. A total of 111 LSBGs were observed
and flux was measured in 92 of them. Though almost all the LSBGs in
our sample are {\ion{H}{1}}rich, their SFRs derived from the extinction and
filtertransmissioncorrected flux, are less than
1M_{\sun}.
LSBGs and star forming galaxies have similar {\ion{H}{1}} surface densities,
but LSBGs have much lower SFRs and SFR surface densities than starforming
galaxies. Our results show that LSBGs deviate from the Kennicutt-Schmidt law
significantly, which indicate that they have low star formation efficiency. The
SFRs of LSBGs are close to average SFRs in Hubble time and support the previous
arguments that most of the LSBGs are stable systems and they tend to seldom
contain strong interactions or major mergers during their star formation
histories

S100 Calcium Binding Protein A10, A Novel Oncogene, Promotes the Proliferation, Invasion, and Migration of Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Hepatocarcinogenesis is a highly complicated process that is promoted by a series of oncogenes. Our study aims to identify novel oncogenes promoting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) by bioinformatic analysis and experimental validation. Here, we reported that S100 calcium binding protein A10 (S100A10) was screened out as a potential novel oncogene in HCC by integrated analysis of OEP000321 dataset and the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-Liver-Cancer data. Furthermore, S100A10 was highly expressed in HCC samples and observably associated with patients’ overall survival (OS). Overexpression of S100A10 in Hep3B and Huh-7 increased the cell proliferation, whereas downregulation of S100A10 in SK-Hep-1 and HepG2 cells reduced the cell viability to almost stop growing. In vivo tumor growth assays showed that S100A10-overexpressing Hep3B cells had a larger tumor size than control. Moreover, S100A10 overexpression promoted Hep3B cells migration and invasion, and S100A10 knockdown inhibited SK-Hep-1 cells migration and invasion, in vitro. In conclusion, it is demonstrated that S100A10 is a novel oncogene in HCC, indicating a possible novel therapeutic strategy of HCC
Risk factors for repeat percutaneous coronary intervention in young patients (≤45 years of age) with acute coronary syndrome
Background The incidences of premature coronary heart disease present a rising trend worldwide. The possible risk factors that may predict the incidence of repeat percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in premature acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unclear. Methods A total of 203 patients ≤45 years with ACS from Chinese PLA General Hospital who have undergone angiography twice were included in this report. Data were collected from medical records of patients during hospitalization. Baseline characteristics which have significant differences in the univariate analysis were enrolled into the multiple logistic regression analysis. According to the odds ratio (OR) of these variables, different values were assigned to build a risk model to predict the possible risk of the premature ACS patients undergoing repeat PCI. Results Of the 203 young patients, 88 patients (43.3%) underwent repeat PCI. The intermit time (OR 1.002, (95% CI [1.001–1.002])), diastolic blood pressure of second procedure (OR 0.967, (95% CI [0.938–0.996])), stent diameter (OR 0.352, (95% CI [0.148–0.840])), HbA1C of the first procedure (OR 1.835, (95% CI [1.358–2.479])), and Troponin T of the second procedure (OR 1.24, (95% CI [0.981–1.489])) were significantly associated with the incidence of repeat PCI in patients with premature ACS. An aggregate score between 0 and 6 was calculated based on these cutpoints. Conclusion For young patients with premature ACS, risk of undergoing repeat PCI was high. HbA1C was a significant, independent predictor for the incidence of repeat revascularization, and weighed more than traditional lipid profile. The glucose metabolism and disorders in patients with premature ACS should be routinely screened
Case report: Experience and insights on the treatment of two cases of cryptococcal meningitis during the later stages of the COVID-19 pandemic
In the late stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, there’s an increasing trend in opportunistic infections, including bacterial and fungal infections. This study discusses the treatment process of two cases of cryptococcal meningitis during the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights the importance of laboratory testing for these co-infections and stresses the need for vigilance, early diagnosis, and proactive treatment to improve patient outcomes in the post-pandemic era
Skywork: A More Open Bilingual Foundation Model
In this technical report, we present Skywork-13B, a family of large language
models (LLMs) trained on a corpus of over 3.2 trillion tokens drawn from both
English and Chinese texts. This bilingual foundation model is the most
extensively trained and openly published LLMs of comparable size to date. We
introduce a two-stage training methodology using a segmented corpus, targeting
general purpose training and then domain-specific enhancement training,
respectively. We show that our model not only excels on popular benchmarks, but
also achieves \emph{state of the art} performance in Chinese language modeling
on diverse domains. Furthermore, we propose a novel leakage detection method,
demonstrating that test data contamination is a pressing issue warranting
further investigation by the LLM community. To spur future research, we release
Skywork-13B along with checkpoints obtained during intermediate stages of the
training process. We are also releasing part of our SkyPile corpus, a
collection of over 150 billion tokens of web text, which is the largest high
quality open Chinese pre-training corpus to date. We hope Skywork-13B and our
open corpus will serve as a valuable open-source resource to democratize access
to high-quality LLMs
Genetic Variation of Promoter Sequence Modulates XBP1 Expression and Genetic Risk for Vitiligo
Our previous genome-wide linkage analysis identified a susceptibility locus for generalized vitiligo on 22q12. To search for susceptibility genes within the locus, we investigated a biological candidate gene, X-box binding protein 1(XBP1). First, we sequenced all the exons, exon-intron boundaries as well as some 5′ and 3′ flanking sequences of XBP1 in 319 cases and 294 controls of Chinese Hans. Of the 8 common variants identified, the significant association was observed at rs2269577 (p_trend = 0.007, OR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.09–1.71), a putative regulatory polymorphism within the promoter region of XBP1. We then sequenced the variant in an additional 365 cases and 404 controls and found supporting evidence for the association (p_trend = 0.008, OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.07–1.59). To further validate the association, we genotyped the variant in another independent sample of 1,402 cases and 1,288 controls, including 94 parent-child trios, and confirmed the association by both case-control analysis (p_trend = 0.003, OR = 1.18, 95% CI = 1.06–1.32) and the family-based transmission disequilibrium test (TDT, p = 0.005, OR = 1.93, 95% CI = 1.21–3.07). The analysis of the combined 2,086 cases and 1,986 controls provided highly significant evidence for the association (p_trend = 2.94×10−6, OR = 1.23, 95% CI = 1.13–1.35). Furthermore, we also found suggestive epistatic effect between rs2269577 and HLA-DRB1*07 allele on the development of vitiligo (p = 0.033). Our subsequent functional study showed that the risk-associated C allele of rs2269577 had a stronger promoter activity than the non-risk G allele, and there was an elevated expression of XBP1 in the lesional skins of patients carrying the risk-associated C allele. Therefore, our study has demonstrated that the transcriptional modulation of XBP1 expression by a germ-line regulatory polymorphism has an impact on the development of vitiligo
Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in -tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton
collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against
a boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and
transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range . The
data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy
of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb. Triple
differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum
fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also
measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent
fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the
measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into
the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any
