Barrier Free: A Socially Engaged Art Installation

    No full text
Barrier Free: A Socially Engaged Art Installation uses the power of art to reverse the controversial idea of the U.S-Mexico border proposal. The traveling installation advocates for; and celebrates unity, diversity, and inclusion. It provides opportunity to reflect on the challenges of human-made and systemic barriers that divide us, from immigration laws to mass incarceration. The interactive piece, along with its programmatic elements, is a call to action to build a society that embraces the contributions of a diverse world. The installation attempts to be inclusive and open to interpretation. Symbols will make reference to barriers around nationality, race, religion, sexual orientation and identity, gender and socioeconomic aspects. This project is less about the actual wall and more about the systematic attempts to divide individuals, families and communities
