Propylene Carbonate Reexamined: Mode-Coupling Scaling without Factorisation ?
The dynamic susceptibility of propylene carbonate in the moderately viscous
regime above is reinvestigated by incoherent neutron and
depolarised light scattering, and compared to dielectric loss and solvation
response. Depending on the strength of relaxation, a more or less
extended scaling regime is found. Mode-coupling fits yield consistently
and K, although different positions of the
susceptibility minimum indicate that not all observables have reached the
universal asymptotics
Universal and non-universal features of glassy relaxation in propylene carbonate
It is demonstrated that the susceptibility spectra of supercooled propylene
carbonate as measured by depolarized-light-scattering, dielectric-loss, and
incoherent quasi-elastic neutron-scattering spectroscopy within the GHz window
are simultaneously described by the solutions of a two-component schematic
model of the mode-coupling theory (MCT) for the evolution of glassy dynamics.
It is shown that the universal beta-relaxation-scaling laws, dealing with the
asymptotic behavior of the MCT solutions, describe the qualitative features of
the calculated spectra. But the non-universal corrections to the scaling laws
render it impossible to achieve a complete quantitative description using only

Metastable Dynamics above the Glass Transition
The element of metastability is incorporated in the fluctuating nonlinear
hydrodynamic description of the mode coupling theory (MCT) of the liquid-glass
transition. This is achieved through the introduction of the defect density
variable into the set of slow variables with the mass density and
the momentum density . As a first approximation, we consider the case
where motions associated with are much slower than those associated with
. Self-consistently, assuming one is near a critical surface in the MCT
sense, we find that the observed slowing down of the dynamics corresponds to a
certain limit of a very shallow metastable well and a weak coupling between
and . The metastability parameters as well as the exponents
describing the observed sequence of time relaxations are given as smooth
functions of the temperature without any evidence for a special temperature. We
then investigate the case where the defect dynamics is included. We find that
the slowing down of the dynamics corresponds to the system arranging itself
such that the kinetic coefficient governing the diffusion of the

Reorientational relaxation of a linear probe molecule in a simple glassy liquid
Within the mode-coupling theory (MCT) for the evolution of structural
relaxation in glass-forming liquids, correlation functions and susceptibility
spectra are calculated characterizing the rotational dynamics of a top-down
symmetric dumbbell molecule, consisting of two fused hard spheres immersed in a
hard-sphere system. It is found that for sufficiently large dumbbell
elongations, the dynamics of the probe molecule follows the same universal
glass-transition scenario as known from the MCT results of simple liquids. The
-relaxation process of the angular-index-j=1 response is stronger,
slower and less stretched than the one for j=2, in qualitative agreement with
results found by dielectric-loss and depolarized-light-scattering spectroscopy
for some supercooled liquids. For sufficiently small elongations, the
reorientational relaxation occurs via large-angle flips, and the standard
scenario for the glass-transition dynamics is modified for odd-j responses due
to precursor phenomena of a nearby type-A MCT transition. In this case, a major
part of the relaxation outside the transient regime is described qualitatively
by the -relaxation scaling laws, while the -relaxation scaling

Postpartum consultation: Occurrence, requirements and expectations
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>As a matter of routine, midwives in Sweden have spoken with women about their experiences of labour in a so-called 'postpartum consultation'. However, the possibility of offering women this kind of consultation today is reduced due to shortage of both time and resources. The aim of this study was to explore the occurrence, women's requirements of, and experiences of a postpartum consultation, and to identify expectations from women who wanted but did not have a consultation with the midwife assisting during labour.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>All Swedish speaking women who gave birth to a live born child at a University Hospital in western Sweden were consecutively included for a phone interview over a three-week period. An additional phone interview was conducted with the women who did not have a postpartum consultation, but who wanted to talk with the midwife assisting during labour. Data from the interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Of the 150 interviewed women, 56% (n = 84) had a postpartum consultation of which 61.9% (n = 52) had this with the midwife assisting during labour. Twenty of the 28 women who did not have a consultation with anyone still desired to talk with the midwife assisting during labour. Of these, 19 were interviewed. The content the women wanted to talk about was summarized in four categories: to understand the course of events during labour; to put into words, feelings about undignified management; to describe own behaviour and feelings, and to describe own fear.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The survey shows that the frequency of postpartum consultation is decreasing, that the majority of women who give birth today still require it, but only about half of them receive it. It is crucial to develop a plan for these consultations that meets both the women's needs and the organization within current maternity care.</p
Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy on Glass-Forming Propylene Carbonate
Dielectric spectroscopy covering more than 18 decades of frequency has been
performed on propylene carbonate in its liquid and supercooled-liquid state.
Using quasi-optic submillimeter and far-infrared spectroscopy the dielectric
response was investigated up to frequencies well into the microscopic regime.
We discuss the alpha-process whose characteristic timescale is observed over 14
decades of frequency and the excess wing showing up at frequencies some three
decades above the peak frequency. Special attention is given to the
high-frequency response of the dielectric loss in the crossover regime between
alpha-peak and boson-peak. Similar to our previous results in other glass
forming materials we find evidence for additional processes in the crossover
regime. However, significant differences concerning the spectral form at high
frequencies are found. We compare our results to the susceptibilities obtained
from light scattering and to the predictions of various models of the glass

Physical Origin of the Boson Peak Deduced from a Two-Order-Parameter Model of Liquid
We propose that the boson peak originates from the (quasi-) localized
vibrational modes associated with long-lived locally favored structures, which
are intrinsic to a liquid state and are randomly distributed in a sea of
normal-liquid structures. This tells us that the number density of locally
favored structures is an important physical factor determining the intensity of
the boson peak. In our two-order-parameter model of the liquid-glass
transition, the locally favored structures act as impurities disturbing
crystallization and thus lead to vitrification. This naturally explains the
dependence of the intensity of the boson peak on temperature, pressure, and
fragility, and also the close correlation between the boson peak and the first

Prevalence of preclinical Alzheimer disease: Comparison of current classification systems
OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of preclinical Alzheimer disease (AD) according to current classification systems by examining CSF from a representative general population sample of 70-year-olds from Gothenburg, Sweden. METHOD: The sample was derived from the population-based H70 Gothenburg Birth Cohort Studies in Gothenburg, Sweden. The participants (n = 322, age 70 years) underwent comprehensive neuropsychiatric, cognitive, and somatic examinations. CSF levels of β-amyloid (Aβ)42, Aβ40, total tau, and phosphorylated tau were measured. Preclinical AD was classified according to criteria of the A/T/N system, Dubois 2016, National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) criteria, and International Working Group-2 (IWG-2) criteria. Individuals with Clinical Dementia Rating score >0 were excluded, leaving 259 cognitively unimpaired individuals. RESULTS: The prevalence of amyloid pathology was 22.8%, of total tau pathology was 33.2%, and of phosphorylated tau pathology was 6.9%. With the A/T/N system, the prevalence of A+/T-/N- was 13.1%, A+/T-/N+ was 7.3%, A+/T+/N+ was 2.3%, A-/T-/N+ was 18.9%, and A-/T+/N+ was 4.6%. When the Dubois criteria were applied, the prevalence of asymptomatic at risk for AD was 36.7% and of preclinical AD was 9.7%. With the NIA-AA criteria, the prevalence of stage 1 was 13.1% and stage 2 was 9.7%. With the IWG-2 criteria, the prevalence of asymptomatic at risk for AD was 9.7%. The APOE ε4 allele was associated with several of the categories. Men more often had total tau pathology, A+/T-/N+, preclinical AD according to Dubois 2016, asymptomatic at risk for AD according to the IWG-2 criteria, and NIA-AA stage 2. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of pathologic AD markers was very common (46%) in a representative population sample of 70-year-olds. The clinical implications of these findings need to be scrutinized further in longitudinal studies
