Process Product Integrity Audits: A Hardware Auditing Technique for the '90s'

    Get PDF
The Space Shuttle program has experienced hardware problems that have delayed several shuttle launches. A NASA review determined that the problems could have been prevented. NASA further concluded that a new kind of Quality emphasis at all Space Shuttle prime contractors and subcontractors was necessary to ensure mission success. To meet this challenge, NASA initiated an innovative review process called Process/Product Integrity (PPIA)

Legitimacy and procedural justice in prisons

All social situations are ‘ordered’ in some way, comprising a constantly changing set of relationships that establish the structure within which human action occurs. In many circumstances this order is hidden, even ephemeral; we are barely aware of its presence. But this is not the case in prisons. Social order in prison is in many ways highly visible: it is established and managed by the omnipresent rules that govern prison life. In large part these rules are oriented toward reproducing the extant regime. They lay down apparently strict criteria for what constitutes order and what is to be done if it is breached. But what is meant by order in prison? Most socia

The reduction of roadway fatalities and serious injuries is a key goal of INDOT. In order to meet the vision of zero roadway deaths, the analysis of motor vehicle crash risk is an important part of project development. This session will discuss how INDOT is bringing appropriate safety analysis practices to the development of engineering assessment (scoping) preparation and into the design process

Concentrations of Volatiles in the Lunar Regolith

To set lower and upper limits on the overall amounts and types of volatiles released during heating of polar regolith, we examined the data for equatorial lunar regolith and for the compositions of comets. The purpose, specifically, was to answer these questions: 1. Upper/Lower limits and 'best guess' for total amount of volatiles (by weight %) released from lunar regolith up to 150C 2. Upper/Lower limit and 'best guess' for composition of the volatiles released from the lunar regolith by weight

National Crystallography Service (NCS) Grid Service

Conference poster about the NCS Grid Service. The EPSRC funded National Crystallography Service (NCS) is a facility available to the entire UK academic Chemistry community. The EPSRC funds a team of experts and 'state of the art' instrumentation, based in Southampton University School of Chemistry, to provide this service. This is an exceptionally important service as crystal structure determination is easily the most information rich method of characterisation of a compound and many research papers cannot be published without confirmation of identity by crystal structure analysis
