    Nash Social Welfare in Multiagent Resource Allocation

    We study different aspects of the multiagent resource allocation problem when the objective is to find an allocation that maximizes Nash social welfare, the product of the utilities of the individual agents. The Nash solution is an important welfare criterion that combines efficiency and fairness considerations. We show that the problem of finding an optimal outcome is NP-hard for a number of different languages for representing agent preferences; we establish new results regarding convergence to Nash-optimal outcomes in a distributed negotiation framework; and we design and test algorithms similar to those applied in combinatorial auctions for computing such an outcome directly

    Adaptive Strategies for Dynamic Pricing Agents

    Dynamic Pricing (DyP) is a form of Revenue Management in which the price of a (usually) perishable good is changed over time to increase revenue. It is an effective method that has become even more relevant and useful with the emergence of Internet firms and the possibility of readily and frequently updating prices. In this paper a new approach to DyP is presented. We design adaptive dynamic pricing strategies and optimize their parameters with an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) offline while the strategies can deal with stochastic market dynamics quickly online. We design two adaptive heuristic dynamic pricing strategies in a duopoly where each firm has a finite inventory of a single type of good. We consider two cases, one in which the average of a customer population’s stochastic valuation for each of the goods is constant throughout the selling horizon and one in which the average customer valuation for each good is changed according to a random Brownian motion. We also design an agent-based software framework for simulating various dynamic pricing strategies in agent-based marketplaces with multiple firms in a bounded time horizon. We use an EA to optimize the parameters for each of the pricing strategies in each of the settings and compare the strategies with other strategies from the literature. We also perform sensitivity a analysis and show that the optimized strategies work well even when used in settings with varied demand functions

    A Study on Exploring the Variables Influenced by Utilization of “Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)” Technology in Iran

    The purpose of this paper is to introduce one of the leading new technologies, “Radio-frequency identification (RFID)”, and investigate the effects of applying this technology on target environment in Iran. The variables, affected by application of RFID technology in various environments, were extracted through the review of literature then a research was carried out in this field, and the obtained variables were localized by consulting with the experts in this area. A questionnaire was developed through using these variables and distributed among a sample of RFID technology providers and users after testing its the reliability and validity. Finally, the statistical tests on the obtained results from the research led to the discovery of components. The findings of this paper would be discovered components, which are affected by application of RFID technology, are as follows:Tracking quality, decision-making improvement, error control, warehouse management, cost leadership, level of assurance, inventory data, speed of provided service, data monitoring and order management. Considering the prevalent use of RFID technology in various industries around the world, the need for this technology and its benefits becomes obvious to everyone.     Feasiability of Using Evidence-Based Virtopsy to Answer the Possible Clinical and Post-Mortem Questions, in Veterinary Practice

    A post-mortem examination is an important part of evidence-based medicine to understand the deterioration of clinical signs or causes of death in euthanized or deceased individual animals or even populations. Post-mortem analysis is aimed at improving clinical treatment and therapy, confirming a suspected diagnosis, man-aging breeding strategies, and clarifying the forensic cases (e.g., neglect or animal abuse). In analogy to virtopsy in human medicine, diagnostic imaging modalities have been applied in post-mortem veterinary medicine, which we call vetvirtopsy. We hypothesize that vetvirtopsy can be used as a method to answer certain clinical/post-mortem questions to im-prove the diagnosis reliability. In some questions, vetvirtopsy actually can replace conventional necropsy. This overview study aims to compare vetvirtopsy with conventional necropsy for variable causes of death in animals and to define its possibilities and limitations. Deceased or euthanized pets and wild animals were collected. The imaging techniques, such as post-mortem digital radiography, post-mortem ultrasound, post-mortem computed tomography, and post-mortem magnetic resonance tomography combined with image-guided tissue sampling, were used to address the open questions about clinical symptoms or causes of their death. The case series in this project showed that diagnostic imaging techniques are feasible in answering distinct ante-mortem and post-mortem clinical and forensic questions. However, there is an interdisciplinary collaboration between diagnostic imaging and sampling under imaging guidance

    Evaluation of self-esteem in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder based on event-related potential

    Background: Self-esteem, the value we place on ourselves, has been associated with effects on health, and life satisfaction. Many studies reported that children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) suffer from low self-esteem has been associated with negative life outcomes. The present study investigated neural correlation of self-esteem in this group compared with typically developing children using the event-related potentials (ERP). Materials and Methods: A total number of 10 children with ADHD were compared with 10 typically developing children matched with their age, gender and IQs. We employed the event-related potential (ERP) technique to explore neural manifestations of implicit self-esteem using the Go/Nogo association task (GNAT). Participants generated a response (Go) or withheld a response (Nogo) to self-words and good or bad attributed. Result: ERP results showed delayed N200 response in frontal areas in bad condition in normal children compared to ADHD children (p <0.05), indicating positive self-esteem. Conclusion: The present study provides neural evidence for probably low self-esteem in ADHD children

    Comparison of the Efficacy of Sofosbuvir and Kaletra on the Outcome of COVID-19. Is Sofosbuvir A Potential Treatment For COVID-19?

    Background: The COVID-19 is a family of large enveloped non-segmented positive-sense RNA viruses which was first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan, China with a cluster of unexplained pneumonia. Although various medications have been tried to manage the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no exclusive medication or vaccine so far. In this study, we aimed to focus on the effectiveness of Hydroxychloroquine + Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir) versus Hydroxychloroquine + Sofosbuvir in patients hospitalized with COVID-19 to given the urgent need for an effective drug against SARS-CoV-2 in the current pandemic context. Materials and Methods: Fifty-four eligible patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 symptoms, according to the WHO criteria entered the study. Patients were randomized into two treatment groups. Thirty-two patients received Hydroxicholoroquine (400 mg stat) and Kaletra (400/100 mg q 12 h) as a control group (group A) and the trial group of 22 patients, received Hydroxicholoroquine (200 mg q 12 h) plus Sofosbuvir (400 mg daily) (group B) for a period of 7 to 14 days. Eventually, collected data included demographic characteristics, underlying diseases, clinical symptoms, laboratory data, and mortality were analyzed. Results: There was no significant difference in age, sex, and underlying diseases between the two groups. There was no significant statistical difference between the two groups on the seventh day of treatment in terms of cough relief, leukocyte count, and improvement of lymphopenia however in terms of the time of defervescence of fever, there was a significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: Therefore, it can be said that our study is one of the first studies in the world to evaluate the effectiveness of sofosbuvir in the treatment of patients with COVID-19. According to our results, although Kaletra was assumed as an effective therapy, its superiority over Sofosbuvir was confined to the earlier effervescence of the 7-day fever and sofosbuvir can be used as an effective treatment, especially in patients with underlying heart disease who are at risk for arrhythmias with Kaletra
