    Educational Need In The Rainbow Troops By Andrea Hirata (2009): A Humanistic Psychological Approach

    The major issue of this study is how is the educational need reflected in Andrea Hinata novel The Rainbow Troops: a humanistic psychological approach. The objective of this study is to analyze The Rainbow Troops novel based on its structural elements that help the writer identify the narrative aspect and technical element of the major character and to analyze the educational need in The Rainbow Troops novel by Andrea based on humanistic psychological perspective. The research is qualitative study. The researcher uses two data sources: primary data source and secondary data source. The data collection method is library research by collecting both primary and secondary data. The data analysis method is descriptive qualitative analysis based on psychoanalytic approach. The results of the study show; firstly, it is about structural analysis of The Rainbow Troops novel. The setting of place and time was suitable with the theme of the novel, where usually people from a small village have a lower education rather than the people from town. It is suitable with the theme of the novel “The education is one of people’s rights on their life”. Secondly, Educational needs of Ikal is showed by the believe of Ikal and his people in Belitong on the modern medicine. With the spirit coming from Bu Mus, he believes that he can save the people’s life from stupidity. Self-Esteem Needs of Ikal, where Ikal as a boy, absolutely really want to satisfy him self with something he likes. Ikal feels satisfy with the way Pak Harfan teaches. As a kid in a small village, they always do a lot of things to satisfy them self, like playing together and also made foolish bets together. Self-Actualization Needs on the end of the story of Rainbow Troops, Finally Ikal success and he gets what he wants as a student in a foreign country

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) aspek-aspek kekerasan yang terdapat dalam cerpen-cerpen pada Antologi Saksi Mata; (2) aspek-aspek kekerasan yang terdapat dalam novel Jazz, Parfum dan Insiden; (3) kondisi sosial politik yang menjadi latar belakang aspek kekerasan di Eks-Timor Timur dalam kedua karya fiksi tersebut; (4) mendeskripsikan kemungkinan karya-karya fiksi tersebut dapat melakukan formasi terhadap masyarakat. Subjek penelitian ini yaitu antologi cerpen Saksi Mata dan novel Jazz, Parfum dan Insiden. Kedua karya fiksi tersebut merupakan karya Seno Gumira Ajidarma. Saksi Mata diterbitkan pertama kali pada 1994 oleh Penerbit Bentang, Yogyakarta; sementara Jazz, Parfum dan Insiden pertama kali diterbitkan pada 1996 juga oleh Penerbit Bentang. Antologi cerpen Saksi Mata terdiri atas 13 cerpen (yang kemudian ditambah dengan tiga cerpen pada edisi ke-2 tahun 2002). Penelitian ini mempergunakan buku Saksi Mata terbitan 2002 dan Jazz, Parfum dan Insiden terbitan 2004. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan. Hasil penelitian disajikan dalam bentuk deskriptif kualitatif. Sementara analisis yang dipakai yaitu berupa kajian isi atau analysis content. Untuk keabsahan data dalam penelitian ini dipergunakan teknik validitas semantis. Untuk tingkat reliabilitasnya dipergunakan teknik reliabilitas intra-rater. Berdasarkan uraian pembahasan dapat disimpulkan sejumlah hal berikut: (1) aspek-aspek kekerasan yang dijadikan tema utama dalam cerpen-cerpen Saksi Mata antara lain yaitu: pembunuhan, penyiksaan, penculikan, pemerkosaan dan sejumlah kekerasan lain yang terjadi akibat peperangan atau daerah konflik; (2) aspek-aspek kekerasan yang terdapat dalam novel Jazz, Parfum dan Insiden antara lain itu pembunuhan, penyiksaan, penculikan, pemerkosaan dan sejumlah kekerasan lain yang terjadi akibat peperangan atau daerah konflik; (3) kondisi sosial politik yang menjadi latar belakang aspek kekerasan berupa berupa pelanggaran hak asasi manusia dari antologi cerpen Saksi Mata dan roman Jazz Parfum & Isiden yaitu Insdien Dili 12 November 1991 di kuburan Santa Cruz dan kondisi pendudukan Timor Timur secara umum; (4) kedua karya fiksi Seno Gumira Ajidarma tersebut telah berperan secara formatif terhadap kesadaran pembaca akan sejumlah tindak kekerasan aparat negara atas pendudukan Timor Timur oleh pemerintahan Orde Baru yang cenderung otoriter militeristik sehingga kedua karya ini secara tidak langsung turut memberikan andil atas kejatuhan pemerintahan Orde Baru dan kemerdekaan Timor Leste.     The main problem of this study is how the women’s struggle to get equal pay is reflected in Nigel Cole’s Made in Dagenham movie. The objective of this study is to analyze Made in Dagenham directed by Nigel Cole based on the structural elements of the movie and to describe women’s struggle to get equal pay in Nigel Cole’s Made in Dagenham based on feminist approach. In analyzing Made in Dagenham movie, the researcher uses qualitative method and feminist approach. The object of the study is Made in Dagenham movie directed by Nigel Cole. The data sources consist of primary data and secondary data sources. The primary data sources is Made in Dagenham movie itself and the secondary data sources are taken from literary books, article that has relation with the movie and other sources which support the analysis. The technique of the data collection is library research. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis. The outcome of the study is shown in the following conclusions. First, from the structural analyzing of Made in Dagenham movie shows that Nigel Cole makes the elaboration of the structural analysis in good unity. Second, based on the feminist approach, Made in Dagenham movie contains many facts that are revealed by Nigel Cole reflecting women’s position, women’s role, women’s right and women’s participation. Nigel Cole wants to express that women workers face gender discrimination on their job. So that the women do the strike as their struggle to get the equal pay

    A Morphological Study On Compound Words In English Translation Of Al- Qur’an

    This research paper is aimed at answering two problems, namely the variation forms of compound word found in English Translation of Al- Qur’ an, and the meanings of the compound found in English Translation of Al- Qur’ an. The data are taken from English Translation of Al- Qur’ an. To find the answer of the forms, the writer uses the theory of O’Grady and finds the meaning of compound uses the theory of Palmer. The type of this research paper is descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the writer applied documentation method. The several steps are done to analyze the data such as reading and collecting the data. In analyzing the form of compound word, the step is analyzing by employing the tree diagram. Based on the analyzed data taken from the English Translation of Al- Qur’an there are two findings. The first finding shows that there are 72 (100%) data of compound words, consist of noun compound (14 or 19.4 %), verb compound (38 or 52.8 %), adjective compound (8 or 11.1 %) and preposition compound (12 or 16.7 %). The second finding shows the meaning of compound word consists of transparent meaning (43 or 63.8 %) and opaque meaning (26 or 36.2 %). Total is 72 (100 %)

    The research paper entitled "The Analysis of Lexical and Structural Ambiguity in Your Letters Column of The Jakarta Post Newspaper Published July 2012" is about the types of lexically ambiguous words and types of sentences or phrases that are structurally ambiguous. The writer understands that the ambiguity can be found in the oral conversation directly or in written. Therefore, the writer wants to find and analyze the kind of words and kind of an ambiguous sentence or phrase contained in the newspaper The Jakarta Post of Your Letters column. The writer uses the data published in July 2012 and focused on the 21 letters. In analyzing the material, the writer uses the theory of Crystal (1980) that indicates the type of words, phrases and sentences. The writer also uses the theory of diagrams from George Yule (2006) which aims to show how constituents in analyzing structural ambiguous. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. After that, the writer showed the data analysis in the form of a percentage of the formula from Bungin (2001). The results of analysis are: thirty eight kinds of words and phrases that are ambiguous, eleven lexical ambiguous (28.9%) and twenty seven structural ambiguous (71.0%). From the data analysis, it can be concluded that structural ambiguity is the most dominant ambiguous appear in Your Letters column of The Jakarta Post Newspaper

    ANALISIS MODEL TULISAN RECOUNT (PENCERITAAN KEMBALI) DALAM RUBRIK-RUBRIK SURAT KABAR NASIONAL

    Recount sebagai salah satu bentuk tulisan faktual yang pa¬ling sederhana belum banyak dikenal, dicermati, dan dikaji. Pada¬hal, bentuk tulisan-tulisan faktual (termasuk recount) sudah mulai di¬be¬lajar¬kan pada siswa sejak jenjang sekolah dasar sampai per¬guru¬an tinggi. Recount sebagai salah satu genre tulisan faktual, ter¬nyata banyak digunakan dalam model tulisan di surat kabar nasi¬onal. Hanya saja belum ada deskripsi yang lebih jelas mengenai mo¬del tulisan yang disajikan oleh beberapa media massa nasional tersebut. Padahal, ini akan menjadi aset penting dalam ranah ke¬ilmu¬an tulisan faktual berbasis budaya nasional. Oleh karena itulah, muncul penelitian analisis model tulisan recount dalam media massa ini. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian analisis konten. Sumber data yang digunakan adalah surat kabar berskala nasional. Sampel yang dipilih adalah Kompas, Jawa Pos, Republika, Media Indonesia, dan Seputar lndonesia, khusus edisi Minggu selama rentang waktu 3 bulan, yaitu Mei, Juni, dan Juli 2007. Wilayah kajian dalam penelitian ini mencakup berbagai model tulisan recount yang digolongkan berdasarkan tujuan penulisan dan cakupan isi yang dimuat dalam tulisan. Fokus kajian yang lain adalah pada struktur skematik model recount yang ditemukan dan fitur bahasanya. Lebih jauh, masalah yang diikupas mengenai implikasi model recount dalam pembelajaran menulis di sekolah. Data dalam penelitian ini diperoleh melalui teknik pembacaan intensif dan pencatatan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik deskriptif kualitatif yang sesuai dengan alur kerja kajian analisis konten berupa rangkaian kegiatan penyajian data, kategorisasi dan pembandingan, tabulasi, dan inferensi. Validitas data dilakukan melalui validitas isi (konstruk) dan validitas semantis, sedangkan reliabilitas dilakukan melalui teknik intraratter dan interrater. Dari 214 data yang ditemukan hasil sebagai berikut. Ber¬dasarkan tujuan penulisannya ada 6 model tulisan recount, yaitu model informatif (paling dominan), apresiasi pelayanan publik, konsultatif, kisah argumentatif, kisah inspiratif, dan anekdot. Ber¬da¬sar¬kan cakupan isinya ada 7 model tulisan recount, yaitu anek¬dot, kisah kekecewaan, berita (paling dominan), konsultatif, kisah nostalgia, kisah tragis, dan kisah inspiratif. Dalam berbagai model tulisan recount di surat kabar nasional dijumpai 3 bagian struktur tulisan recount yaitu orientasi, rentetan peristiwa, dan re-orientasi. Orientasi selalu muncul dalam setiap model tulisan recount hanya berbeda-beda wujudnya. Peristiwa tersaji secara runtut, jelas, tun¬tas. Re-orientasi kadang muncul kadang tidak. Wujudnya juga ber¬variasi sesuai dengan modelnya. Berdasar analisis yang ada bebera¬pa fitur bahasa yang dapat dinyatakan dari berbagai tulisan recount antara lain sudut pandang penulis dalam tulisan, kata/frase penun¬juk¬kan waktu kelampauan, kata/frase transisi dalam rentetan peris-ti¬wa, dan penunjukkan tindakan dalam tiap tulisan.     PENGEMBANGAN MODEL PENGENALAN BAHASA TULIS UNTUK ANAK KELOMPOK BERMAIN DAN TAMAN ANAK-KANAK

    Target akhir penelitian adalah terwujudnya suatu model pengenalan bahasa tulis untuk anak KB dan TK. Penelitian di¬lakukan selama tiga tahun. Penelitian tahun pertama ini bertujuan untuk menggali permasalahan di lapangan terkait dengan bentuk dan proses pengenalan bahasa tulis yang terjadi saat ini, wujud capaian tahap perkembangan berbahasa tulis ekspresif dan reseptif anak, dan masalah yang terjadi dalam proses pengenalan bahasa tulis di KB dan TK. Desain penelitian ini adalah research and development Borg And Gall (2003) dengan beberapa penyesuaian. Subjek utama adalah 171 pendidik di KB dan TK di DIY dan Jawa Tengah di wilayah pedesaan, pinggiran, dan perkotaan. Subjek lain adalah adalah 233 anak KB dan TK di DIY dan Jawa Tengah. Data diperoleh dengan berbagai metode, yakni observasi, angket, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dilakukan juga studi literatur. Data wawancara ditranskrip secara ortografis, data audio visual disatukan dengan data catatan lapangan, data hasil ekspresi tulis anak didokumentasikan melalui scan. Validitas data diperoleh dengan intrarater dan interrater. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil berikut. Pertama, bentuk pengenalan bahasa tulis reseptif yang dilakukan pendidik meliputi hafalan huruf, identifikasi bentuk huruf, pembacaan cerita, latihan mengeja, instruksi membaca buku, pemajangan media di kelas, pemanfaatan pajanan, dan permainan membaca; bentuk pengenalan bahasa tulis ekspresif dilakukan dengan pengenalan huruf demi huruf dengan berbagai cara, pengenalan kata dan silabel, serta pelibatan anak. Pada saat pengenalan bahasa tulis, anak mengalami berbagai hambatan. Kedua, wujud capaian bahasa tulis reseptif anak KB adalah tahap self concept, bridging reader stage, dan sebagian kecil mencapai take-off reader, Sebagian besar anak TK A mencapai tahap bridging reader stage dan take off reader, dan sebagian masih berada pada tahap self concept. Anak TK B mencapai tahap bridging reader stage dan take off reader, dan sebagian kecil telah mencapai tahap independen reader stage. Wujud capaian bahasa tulis ekspresif anak KB adalah huruf acak, dan sebagian kecil masih pada tahap cakar ayam, sebagian kecil lain sudah mencapai tahap menulis fonetik, dan tahap ejaan awal; Anak TK A sebagian besar mencapai tahap huruf acak, tahap menulis fonetik, dan sebagian kecil telah mencapai tahap ejaan awal dan ejaan transisi; Anak TK B umumnya berada pada tahap menulis fonetik, ejaan awal, dan ejaan transisi, serta sebagian kecil baru pada tahap huruf acak. Ketiga, masalah pengenalan bahasa tulis di KB dan TK disebabkan oleh faktor (1) latar belakang pengetahuan guru tentang pendidikan AUD meliputi pengetahuan tentang makna bahasa tulis, prinsip perkembangan AUD, penguasaan dan penerapan metode, (2) orientasi pengenalan bahasa tulis yang cenderung akademik, berorientasi hasil, dan defisit perspektif, (3) kemampuan guru dalam mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis kasus yang ditemui, dan (4) kemampuan guru dalam memecahkan kasus metodik meliputi : langkah mengatasi kesulitan berbahasa tulis anak, upaya pengembangan kemampuan berbahasa tulis anak, upaya mengatasi penolakan anak belajar bahasa tulis, dan cara memperkenalkan bahasa tulis pada anak.     Improving Students’ Vocabulary Using Jumbled Words At The Fifth Grade Of SD N 03 Mojo Andong Boyolali In 2011/2012 Academic Year

    This research aims at describing the improving of students’ vocabulary using jumbled words to the fifth grade students of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali. The general objective of this research is to describe the improving students’ vocabulary by using jumbled words. While the specific objectives of this research are to know whether or not jumbled words can improve the students’ vocabulary, and to identify the strengths and weaknesses of teaching vocabulary using jumbled words to the fifth grade students of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali in 2011/2012 Academic Year. In this research, the writer uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). There are two cycles in this action research in which each cycle is conducted in two meetings. Each cycle of this action research consists of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was held in the fifth grade of SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali consisting of 20 students. In analyzing the data, the writer uses qualitative analysis from observation, test, interview, and document analysis. The result of research shows that jumbled words can improve students’ vocabulary. It can be seen from increasing mean score of pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is 59.1 and post-test is 86.5, the improvement got by the students is 27.4. The strengths are the students can reduce their error possibility, more active, creative, more concentration and are not easily bored in English class. The weaknesses are the writer must spend her spare time at home to prepare material and design the classroom activity, and the writer should use both Indonesia and English language. Thus, it can be said that teaching English vocabulary using Jumbled Words technique is successful in improving the students’ vocabulary in SDN 03 Mojo, Andong, Boyolali

    This study is about determinism and freedom in One Day novel. The objective of this study are to analyze the novel based on its structural elements and apply the determinism approach to analyze the determinism and freedom in One Day novel. The data source comes from primary data source that is the novel and the secondary data sources are references and data or materials related to the research picking up from the books and the internet related with the novel. The method of the data collection is descriptive analysis.The researcher uses Barret’s major point of determinism and freedom to answer the problem of the study. The study is descriptive qualitative research whose data are taken from novel. The technique of the collecting data is library research, while the technique of analyzing data is descriptive. The study comes to the following conclusions. Firstly, based on the structural analysis of each elements, it shows that character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, and theme are related to each other and form the unity. Secondly, based on the determinism analysis the writer wants to say that humans only have the freedom to choose and do all they want, and they can only hope and strive in order that their desires could be achieved and their hopes come true, sometimes what they choose and what they do give a major influence on their future or the rest of their lives but on the other hand everything is determined by God, including, life and death, fate and destiny, fortune and mate
