Absolute proper motion of the Galactic open cluster M67
We derived the absolute proper motion (PM) of the old, solar-metallicity
Galactic open cluster M67 using observations collected with CFHT (1997) and
with LBT (2007). About 50 galaxies with relatively sharp nuclei allow us to
determine the absolute PM of the cluster. We find (mu_alpha
cos(delta),mu_delta)_J2000.0 = (-9.6+/-1.1,-3.7+/-0.8) mas/yr. By adopting a
line-of-sight velocity of 33.8+/-0.2 km/s, and assuming a distance of 815+/-50
pc, we explore the influence of the Galactic potential, with and without the
bar and/or spiral arms, on the galactic orbit of the cluster.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, and 3 tables. Published in Astronomy and

Searching for tidal tails around Centauri using RR Lyrae Stars
We present a survey for RR Lyrae stars in an area of 50 deg around the
globular cluster Centauri, aimed to detect debris material from the
alleged progenitor galaxy of the cluster. We detected 48 RR Lyrae stars of
which only 11 have been previously reported. Ten among the eleven previously
known stars were found inside the tidal radius of the cluster. The rest were
located outside the tidal radius up to distances of degrees from the
center of the cluster. Several of those stars are located at distances similar
to that of Centauri. We investigated the probability that those stars
may have been stripped off the cluster by studying their properties (mean
periods), calculating the expected halo/thick disk population of RR Lyrae stars
in this part of the sky, analyzing the radial velocity of a sub-sample of the
RR Lyrae stars, and finally, studying the probable orbits of this sub-sample
around the Galaxy. None of these investigations support the scenario that there
is significant tidal debris around Centauri, confirming previous
studies in the region. It is puzzling that tidal debris have been found

Six New Galactic Orbits of Globular Clusters in a Milky-Way-Like Galaxy
Absolute proper motions for six new globular clusters have recently been
determined. This motivated us to obtain the Galactic orbits of these six
clusters both in an axisymmetric Galactic potential and in a barred potential,
such as the one of our Galaxy. Orbits are also obtained for a Galactic
potential that includes spiral arms. The orbital characteristics are compared
and discussed for these three cases. Tidal radii and destruction rates are also

The Sun was not born in M 67
Using the most recent proper-motion determination of the old,
Solar-metallicity, Galactic open cluster M 67, in orbital computations in a
non-axisymmetric model of the Milky Way, including a bar and 3D spiral arms, we
explore the possibility that the Sun once belonged to this cluster. We have
performed Monte Carlo numerical simulations to generate the present-day orbital
conditions of the Sun and M 67, and all the parameters in the Galactic model.
We compute 3.5 \times 10^5 pairs of orbits Sun-M 67 looking for close
encounters in the past with a minimum distance approach within the tidal radius
of M 67. In these encounters we find that the relative velocity between the Sun
and M 67 is larger than 20 km/s. If the Sun had been ejected from M 67 with
this high velocity by means of a three-body encounter, this interaction would
destroy an initial circumstellar disk around the Sun, or disperse its already
formed planets. We also find a very low probability, much less than 10^-7, that
the Sun was ejected from M 67 by an encounter of this cluster with a giant
molecular cloud. This study also excludes the possibility that the Sun and M 67
were born in the same molecular cloud. Our dynamical results convincingly

Perfil Clínico del tratamiento de infección del tracto urinario con antibióticos de amplio espectro en un hospital 2012
Objetivo. Determinar el perfil clínico del tratamiento de la infección del tracto urinario (ITU) con antibióticos de amplio espectro en el Hospital Central de la Fuerza Aérea del Perú, entre los meses de Agosto y Noviembre del 2012. Materiales y métodos Estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal realizado en el Hospital Central de la Fuerza Aérea de Lima-Perú, entre los meses de Agosto y Noviembre del 2012. Se tomo 71 historias clínicas de pacientes con diagnóstico de ITU que recibieron antibióticos de amplio espectro. Se analizó las variables con frecuencias (cualitativas), medidas de tendencia central y dispersión (cuantitativas). Los datos fueron procesados en el paquete estadístico STATA 11.0. Resultados. La edad promedio fue 67.08 ± 19.21 años, el 61,43% (n=43) fueron varones y el 38,57% (n=27) mujeres. El servicio con mayor prescripción fue el Servicio de Emergencia 44,29% (n=31). La comorbilidad más frecuente fue Diabetes Mellitus (DM) 24,29% (n =17). La clínica más frecuente fue disuria 35,71% (n=25). El hallazgo de laboratorio más frecuente fue leucocitosis 65,71% (n=46). Y se prescribió con mayor frecuencia ceftriaxona 34,29% (n=24). Conclusión. El perfil clínico del tratamiento de ITU con antibióticos de amplio espectro es diverso, asociándose con mayor frecuencia a la presencia de antecedente de DM y disuria
In vitro antiviral activity of SCH446211 (SCH6), a novel inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus NS3 serine protease.
Current hepatitis C virus (HCV) therapies may cure approximately 60% of infections. They are often contraindicated or poorly tolerated, underscoring the need for safer and more effective drugs. A novel, alpha-ketoamide-derived, substrate-based inhibitor of the HCV serine protease (SCH446211) was developed. Compared with earlier reported inhibitors of similar chemical class, it has a P1'-P2' extension which provides extended interaction with the protease active site. The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antiviral activity of SCH446211.
Binding constant of SCH446211 to HCV NS3 protease was measured with the chromogenic substrate in vitro cleavage assay. Cell-based activity of SCH446211 was evaluated in replicon cells, which are Huh-7 hepatoma cells stably transfected with a subgenomic HCV RNA as reported previously. After 72 h of incubation with SCH446211, viral transcription and protein expression were measured by real-time RT-PCR (TaqMan), quantitative in situ hybridization, immunoblot and indirect immunofluorescence.
The binding constant of SCH446211 to HCV NS3 protease was 3.8 +/- 0.4 nM. HCV replication and protein expression were inhibited by SCH446211 in replicon cells as consistently shown by four techniques. In particular, based on quantitative real-time RT-PCR measurements, the IC50 and IC90 of SCH446211 were estimated to be 40 +/- 20 and 100 +/- 20 nM (n = 17), respectively. Long-term culture of replicon cells with SCH446211 reduced replicon RNA to <0.1 copy per cell. SCH446211 did not show cellular toxicity at concentrations up to 50 microM.
SCH446211 is a potent inhibitor of HCV protease in vitro. Its extended interaction with the HCV NS3 protease active site is associated with potent in vitro antiviral activity. This observation is potentially a useful guide for development of future potent inhibitors against HCV NS3 protease
The needle in the haystack - Where to look for more isolated cooling neutron stars
Context: Isolated cooling neutron stars with thermal X-ray emission remain
rarely detected objects despite many searches investigating the ROSAT data.
Aims: We simulate the population of close-by young cooling neutron stars to
explain the current observational results. Given the inhomogeneity of the
neutron star distribution on the sky it is particularly interesting to identify
promising sky regions with respect to on-going and future searches.
Methods: Applying a population synthesis model the inhomogeneity of the
progenitor distribution and the inhomogeneity of the X-ray absorbing
interstellar medium are considered for the first time. The total number of
observable neutron stars is derived with respect to ROSAT count rates. In
addition, we present sky maps of neutron star locations and discuss age and
distance distributions of the simulated neutron stars. Implications for future
searches are discussed.
Results: With our advanced model we can successfully explain the observed
logN - logS distribution of close-by neutron stars. Cooling neutron stars will
be most abundant in the directions of rich OB associations. New candidates are
expected to be identified behind the Gould Belt, in particular in the
Cygnus-Cepheus region. They are expected to be on average younger and then
hotter than the known population of isolated cooling neutron stars. In
addition, we propose to use data on runaway stars to search for more

Planetary Dynamics and Habitable Planet Formation In Binary Star Systems
Whether binaries can harbor potentially habitable planets depends on several
factors including the physical properties and the orbital characteristics of
the binary system. While the former determines the location of the habitable
zone (HZ), the latter affects the dynamics of the material from which
terrestrial planets are formed (i.e., planetesimals and planetary embryos), and
drives the final architecture of the planets assembly. In order for a habitable
planet to form in a binary star system, these two factors have to work in
harmony. That is, the orbital dynamics of the two stars and their interactions
with the planet-forming material have to allow terrestrial planet formation in
the habitable zone, and ensure that the orbit of a potentially habitable planet
will be stable for long times. We have organized this chapter with the same
order in mind. We begin by presenting a general discussion on the motion of
planets in binary stars and their stability. We then discuss the stability of
terrestrial planets, and the formation of potentially habitable planets in a
