    The memory of a tree; an interactive visual storytelling installation

    Over the centuries, people have combined fields, leading to the creation of new domains. For example, artists have used technology to widen the range of their medium to express ideas in new ways. Similarly, technology has leveraged art to expand its range of application. Both art and technology continue to inspire innovation in each other. A contemporary example of this process is evident in interactive art era; this article covers this topic focusing on tangible interface pieces. There have been many compelling demonstrations that involve tangible interaction to increase audience interests through their embodied interaction. However, most existing approaches are limited to engaging a user’s immediate, temporary experience with setting some context of the environment with story elements. This article presents an interactive installation that engages the audience, building an immersive environment based on the synergy between embodied interaction and storytelling in a more active and meaningful way. It is based on the belief that tangible interfaces have the potential to convey narratives more meaningfully based on physical interaction and human senses and fundamentally, aims to supply another potential of tangible interfaces to spark further discussion in this area

    Numerical Simulation for the Internal Flow Analysis of the Linear Compressor with Improved Muffler

    The numerical simulation is frequently used to estimate experimental results in fluid flow dynamics. In this paper, we focus on increasing the efficiency of linear compressor by applying modified muffler. Furthermore, we analyze a fluid flow in a suction line of linear compressor by using a computational fluid dynamics. We assume an unsteady flow, compressible, and two dimension axis-symmetric condition. In numerical simulation models, all processes of linear compressor, i.e., compression, discharging, expansion and suction, are continuously performed. Numerical simulation results are compared with experimental data to validate an accuracy of simulation. Furthermore, we show that numerical simulation results are well converged according to time. The results present that the mass flow which flows into the cylinder increases when the pressure in the piston is highly maintained during the suction process

    Pretransplant BKV-IgG serostatus and BKV-specific ELISPOT assays to predict BKV infection after kidney transplantation

    IntroductionPolyomavirus (BKV) infection can lead to major complications and damage to the graft in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). We investigated whether pretransplant BK serostatus and BK-specific cell-mediated immunity (CMI) predicts post-transplant BK infection.MethodsA total of 93 donor-recipient pairs who underwent kidney transplantation (KT) and 44 healthy controls were examined. Assessment of donor and recipient BKV serostatus and BKV-CMI in recipients was performed prior to transplantation using BKV-IgG ELISA and BKV-specific IFN-g ELISPOT assays against five BK viral antigens (LT, St, VP1, VP2, and VP3). BK viremia was diagnosed when blood BKV-DNA of 104 copies/mL or more was detected during follow-up periods. ResultsAnti-BKV IgG antibody was detected in 74 (79.6%) of 93 KTRs and in 68 (73.1%) of 93 KT donors. A greater percentage of KTRs who received allograft from donors with high levels of anti-BKV IgG had posttransplant BK viremia (+) than KTRs from donors with low anti-BKV IgG (25.5% [12/47] vs. 4.3% [2/46], respectively; P = 0.007). Pretransplant total BKV-ELISPOT results were lower in BK viremia (+) patients than in patients without viremia (-) 20.5 [range 9.9−63.6] vs. 72.0 [43.2 - 110.8]; P = 0. 027). The sensitivity and specificity of the total BKV-ELISPOT assay (cut-off ≤ 53 spots/3×105 cells) for prediction of posttransplant BK viremia were 71.4 (95% CI: 41.9–91.6) and 54.4 (42.8–65.7), respectively. The combination of high donor BKV-IgG, low recipient BKV-IgG, and low total BKV-ELISPOT results improved specificity to 91.1%.DiscussionOur study highlights the importance of pretransplant BKV-IgG serostatus and BKV-specific CMI in predicting posttransplant BKV infection in KTRs. The combination of high donor BKV-IgG, low recipient BKV-IgG, and low total BKV-ELISPOT results predicted BK viremia after KT. Pretransplant identification of patients at highrisk for BK viremia could enable timely interventions and improve clinical outcomes of KTRs

    Retroperitoneal Laparoscopy in Dogs: Access Technique, Working Space, and Surgical Anatomy

    Objective: To develop and describe a laparoscopic retroperitoneal access technique, investigate working space establishment, and describe the surgical anatomy in the retroperitoneal space as an initial step for clinical application of retroperitoneal laparoscopy in dogs. Study Design: Cadaveric and experimental study. Animals: Cadaveric (n58) and healthy (n56) adult dogs. Methods: The retroperitoneal access technique was developed in 3 cadavers based on the human technique and transperitoneal observation. Its application and working space establishment with carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation alone was evaluated in 5 cadavers by observing with a transperitoneal telescope and in 6 live dogs by repeated computed tomography (CT) scans at pressure of 0, 5, 10, and 15 mmHg. Recordings of retroperitoneoscopy as well as working space volume and linear dimensions measured on CT images were analyzed. Results: Retroperitoneal access and working space establishment with CO2 insufflation alone were successfully performed in all 6 live dogs. The only complication observed was in 1 dog that developed subclinical pneumomediastinum. As pressure increased, working space was established from the ipsilateral to the contralateral side, and peritoneal tearing eventually developed. Working space volume increased significantly from 5 mmHg and linear dimensions increased significantly from 0 to 10 mmHg. With pneumo-retroperitoneum above 5 mmHg, retroperitoneal organs, including kidneys and adrenal glands, were easily visualized.     The first case of abdominal mycotic aneurysm caused by K1 hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae in a healthy adult

    Incidence of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) infection has been steadily increasing in the Asia-Pacific rim. The characteristic of hvKp infection is its ability to cause multiple site infections and unpredictable metastatic spread in the community. We describe the first case of mycotic aneurysm caused by hvKp serotype K1 in a previously healthy man and review the literature. Of a total of 13 cases, including our case, three cases were related to hvKp. Among patients with hvKp, the level of mycotic aneurysm in most patients was the infrarenal aorta, and they underwent an aortic graft or coil embolization. All strains were susceptible to most antimicrobial agents, except ampicillin. Early detection of hvKp can help to prevent the metastatic spread of pathogens and be useful for optimal patient care and epidemiologic research

    Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form for Psychiatric Outpatients

    Objective The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) is perhaps the most widely used and well-studied retrospective measure of childhood abuse or neglect. This study tested the initial reliability and validity of a Korean translation of the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ-K) among non-psychotic psychiatric outpatients.Methods The CTQ-K was administered to a total of 163 non-psychotic psychiatric outpatients at a university-affiliated training hospital. Internal consistency, four-week test-retest reliability, and validity were calculated. A portion of the participants (n=65) also completed the Trauma Assessment Questionnaire (TAQ), the Impact of Events Scale-Revised, and the Dissociative Experiences Scale-Taxon.Results Four-week test-retest reliability was high (r=0.87) and internal consistency was good (Cronbach's alpha=0.88). Each type of childhood trauma was significantly correlated with the corresponding subscale of the TAQ, thus confirming its concurrent validity. In addition, the CTQ-K total score was positively related to post-traumatic symptoms and pathological dissociation, demonstrating the convergent validity of the scale. The CTQ-K was also negatively correlated with the competence and safety subscale of the TAQ, confirming discriminant validity. Additionally, we confirmed the factorial validity by identifying a five-factor structure that explained 64% of the total variance.Conclusion Our study indicates that the CTQ-K is a measure of psychometric soundness that can be used to assess childhood abuse or neglect in Korean patients.     Quasi-graphitic carbon shell-induced Cu confinement promotes electrocatalytic CO2 reduction toward C2+ products

    For steady electroconversion to value-added chemical products with high efficiency, electrocatalyst reconstruction during electrochemical reactions is a critical issue in catalyst design strategies. Here, we report a reconstruction-immunized catalyst system in which Cu nanoparticles are protected by a quasi-graphitic C shell. This C shell epitaxially grew on Cu with quasi-graphitic bonding via a gas–solid reaction governed by the CO (g) - CO2 (g) - C (s) equilibrium. The quasi-graphitic C shell-coated Cu was stable during the CO2 reduction reaction and provided a platform for rational material design. C2+ product selectivity could be additionally improved by doping p-block elements. These elements modulated the electronic structure of the Cu surface and its binding properties, which can affect the intermediate binding and CO dimerization barrier. B-modified Cu attained a 68.1% Faradaic efficiency for C2H4 at −0.55 V (vs RHE) and a C2H4 cathodic power conversion efficiency of 44.0%. In the case of N-modified Cu, an improved C2+ selectivity of 82.3% at a partial current density of 329.2 mA/cm2 was acquired. Quasi-graphitic C shells, which enable surface stabilization and inner element doping, can realize stable CO2-to-C2H4 conversion over 180 h and allow practical application of electrocatalysts for renewable energy conversion. © 2021, The Author(s).1

    How Does Lighting of Stores Interact with Global Versus Local Processing Modes of Shoppers in Retail Environments?

    Lighting plays a significant role in retail environments as it evokes atmosphere and influences shopping behaviors by changing mood, perceptions, attention, emotions, and cognition. Despite the significance and benefits of optimal lighting in retail stores, however, little is known about specific lighting designs that influence shoppers’ in-store behaviors. This study investigates whether the effectiveness of lighting type (holistic vs. focused) is contingent on the dominant processing mode of shoppers at a given moment. The holistic or focused lighting shapes visual scope of shoppers to focus on gestalts or details in a store. Using a global versus local processing mode, which is accessible from contextual factors and is shaped by cultures, a series of experiments was conducted to test the interactive effects of lighting type and processing mode on shoppers’ approach intentions toward a store and the underlying mechanisms that influence these intentions
