    A study of CP violation in the decays B±→[K+K-π+π-]Dh± (h= K, π) and B±→[π+π-π+π-]Dh±

    Get PDF
The first study of CP violation in the decay mode B±→[K+K-π+π-]Dh± , with h= K, π , is presented, exploiting a data sample of proton–proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 \,fb - 1 . The analysis is performed in bins of phase space, which are optimised for sensitivity to local CP asymmetries. CP -violating observables that are sensitive to the angle γ of the Unitarity Triangle are determined. The analysis requires external information on charm-decay parameters, which are currently taken from an amplitude analysis of LHCb data, but can be updated in the future when direct measurements become available. Measurements are also performed of phase-space integrated observables for B±→[K+K-π+π-]Dh± and B±→[π+π-π+π-]Dh± decays

Measurement of the photon polarization in ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays

The photon polarization in bsγb \to s \gamma transitions is measured for the first time in radiative b-baryon decays exploiting the unique spin structure of ΛbΛγ\Lambda_b \to \Lambda \gamma decays. A data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb16\;fb^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13  TeV13\;TeV is used. The photon polarization is measured to be αγ=0.820.260.13+0.17+0.04\alpha_{\gamma}= 0.82^{\,+\,0.17\,+\,0.04}_{\,-\,0.26\,-\,0.13}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction and previous measurements in b-meson decays. Charge-parity breaking effects are studied for the first time in this observable and found to be consistent with CPCP symmetry.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-030.html (LHCb public pages

Study of coherent J/ψJ/\psi production in lead-lead collisions at sNN=5TeV\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5 TeV

Coherent production of J/ψJ/\psi mesons is studied in ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5 TeV, using a data sample collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 10μb110 \mu b^{-1}. The J/ψJ/\psi mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon final state and are required to have transverse momentum below 1 GeV. The cross-section within the rapidity range of 2.0<y<4.52.0 < y < 4.5 is measured to be 4.45±0.24±0.18±0.584.45\pm0.24\pm0.18\pm0.58 mb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from the luminosity determination. The cross-section is also measured in J/ψJ/\psi rapidity intervals. The results are compared to predictions from phenomenological models.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2021-013.html (LHCb public pages

Measurement of the CKM angle γ and Bs0‐B ̄s0 mixing frequency with Bs0→Ds∓h±π±π∓ decays

The CKM angle γ is measured for the first time from mixing-induced CP violation between Bs0→Ds∓K±π±π∓ and B ̄s0→Ds±K∓π∓π± decays reconstructed in proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1 recorded with the LHCb detector. A time-dependent amplitude analysis is performed to extract the CP-violating weak phase γ − 2βs and, subsequently, γ by taking the Bs0‐B ̄s0 mixing phase βs as an external input. The measurement yields γ = (44 ± 12)° modulo 180°, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined. An alternative model-independent measurement, integrating over the five-dimensional phase space of the decay, yields γ=(44−13+20)° modulo 180°. Moreover, the Bs0‐B ̄s0 oscillation frequency is measured from the flavour-specific control channel Bs0→Ds−π+π+π− to be ∆ms = (17.757 ± 0.007(stat) ± 0.008(syst)) ps−1, consistent with and more precise than the current world-average value. The Λb0→Λc+K+K−π− decay is observed for the first time using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of s=7 and 8TeV collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb−1. The ratio of branching fractions between the Λb0→Λc+K+K−π− and the Λb0→Λc+Ds− decays is measured to be [Formula presented] where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the knowledge of the Ds−→K+K−π− branching fraction. No structure on the invariant mass distribution of the Λc+K+ system is found, consistent with no open-charm pentaquark signature. © 2021 The Author(s

    Observation of a resonant structure near the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- threshold in the B+Ds+DsK+B^+\to D_s^+ D_s^- K^+ decay

An amplitude analysis of the B+Ds+DsK+B^+\to D_s^+ D_s^- K^+ decay is carried out to study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as X(3960)X(3960), is observed in the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- invariant-mass spectrum with significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width and the quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be 3956±5±103956\pm5\pm10 MeV, 43±13±843\pm13\pm8 MeV and JPC=0++J^{PC}=0^{++}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state composed of ccˉssˉc\bar{c}s\bar{s} quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is found around 4140 MeV in the Ds+DsD_s^+ D_s^- invariant mass, which might be caused either by a new resonance with the 0++0^{++} assignment or by a J/ψϕDs+DsJ/\psi \phi\leftrightarrow D_s^+ D_s^- coupled-channel effect.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-018.html (LHCb public pages

    Observation of a New Excited Ds+ Meson in B0 → D− D+ K+ π− Decays

    Get PDF
Using pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb^−1 collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, the B0 → D− D+ K+ π− decay is studied. A new excited Ds+ meson is observed decaying into the D+ K+ π− final state with large statistical significance. The pole mass and width, and the spin parity of the new state are measured with an amplitude analysis to be m_R = 2591 ± 6 ± 7 MeV, Γ_R = 89 ± 16 ± 12 MeV, and J^P = 0−, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Fit fractions for all components in the amplitude analysis are also reported. The new resonance, denoted as Ds0(2590)+, is a strong candidate to be the Ds(2^1S_0)+ state, the radial excitation of the pseudoscalar ground-state Ds+ meson
