    Elevated left ventricular filling pressures are a general feature and hallmark of heart failure resulting from cardiac dysfunctions, essentially arising from and affecting the left ventricle [1, 2]. These disorders include heart failure due to diastolic and/or systolic malfunctions, as such heart failure with preserved (HFpEF) and without preserved; reduced (HFrEF) ejection fraction; valvular diseases; congenital cardiomyopathies; and congenital and acquired afflictions of left heart inflow and/or outflow tract [2, 3]. Thereby, the pressure of the left atrium will be elevated, either subsequently due to the increased LV-filling pressure [1, 4] or even initially, primarily in case of mitral stenosis [5]. In any case, left heart disease (LHD) is generally characterized by elevated left-sided filling pressures [4, 6]. The left-sided filling pressures are transmitted backwards, downstream, thereby causing an increase in pulmonary venous pressures [1, 5–7], a condition "of passive or congestive nature" as associated with pulmonary venous congestion [6]. In the literature this issue has in the past been called pulmonary venous hypertension (PvH) [8], or post-capillary pulmonary hypertension [9] or passive pulmonary hypertension [10]. Consequently, with the rise in pulmonary venous pressure, pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) also increases [11]

    High intensity tapping regime in a frustrated lattice gas model of granular compaction

    In the frame of a well established lattice gas model for granular compaction, we investigate the high intensity tapping regime where a pile expands significantly during external excitation. We find that this model shows the same general trends as more sophisticated models based on molecular dynamic type simulations. In particular, a minimum in packing fraction as a function of tapping strength is observed in the reversible branch of an annealed tapping protocol.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

The data collected using sensor from IOT has been made available to the public and has helped a huge number of consumers of data to utilize such data sets for several applications starting from scientific experimentation and modulation to improving commercial activity forbusinesses.Following this has resulted in the requirement for the developing data analysis tools that ease the use for customers and allocating the most constructive tools for a problemstatement.To this end, we attempt to introduce data analysis tool as a web service, which empowers the consumer to make a simple HTTP request for processing data over the internet. Hence, by developing such tools as a web service, we signify the prospective of such a system to support both the progressive and beginner level of data consumer. Further, this work provides an example of the suggested tool on data available publicly, extracted from the day to day trafficdata.Data analysis has reformed the collection of data from day to day real life activities, hence validating a bunch of new web technologies introduced to as smart objects toappear.These objects can be utilized to improve consumer’s experience when initiating an interaction with a service. Certainly, a fixed example of huge IoT systems with authorization to enormous quantities of budding useful Data for data consumers is smart cities with traffic analysis

    A Pre-Landing Assessment of Regolith Properties at the InSight Landing Site

    This article discusses relevant physical properties of the regolith at the Mars InSight landing site as understood prior to landing of the spacecraft. InSight will land in the northern lowland plains of Mars, close to the equator, where the regolith is estimated to be ≄3--5 m thick. These investigations of physical properties have relied on data collected from Mars orbital measurements, previously collected lander and rover data, results of studies of data and samples from Apollo lunar missions, laboratory measurements on regolith simulants, and theoretical studies. The investigations include changes in properties with depth and temperature. Mechanical properties investigated include density, grain-size distribution, cohesion, and angle of internal friction. Thermophysical properties include thermal inertia, surface emissivity and albedo, thermal conductivity and diffusivity, and specific heat. Regolith elastic properties not only include parameters that control seismic wave velocities in the immediate vicinity of the Insight lander but also coupling of the lander and other potential noise sources to the InSight broadband seismometer. The related properties include Poisson’s ratio, P- and S-wave velocities, Young’s modulus, and seismic attenuation. Finally, mass diffusivity was investigated to estimate gas movements in the regolith driven by atmospheric pressure changes. Physical properties presented here are all to some degree speculative. However, they form a basis for interpretation of the early data to be returned from the InSight mission.Additional co-authors: Nick Teanby and Sharon Keda

    Global Search for New Physics with 2.0/fb at CDF

    Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (Vista) considers gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distributions for "bumps" that could indicate resonant production of new particles; and the Sleuth procedure scans for data excesses at large summed transverse momentum. This combined global search for new physics in 2.0/fb of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV reveals no indication of physics beyond the standard model.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures.     Observation of Orbitally Excited B_s Mesons

    We report the first observation of two narrow resonances consistent with states of orbitally excited (L=1) B_s mesons using 1 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. We use two-body decays into K^- and B^+ mesons reconstructed as B^+ \to J/\psi K^+, J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^- or B^+ \to \bar{D}^0 \pi^+, \bar{D}^0 \to K^+ \pi^-. We deduce the masses of the two states to be m(B_{s1}) = 5829.4 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2 and m(B_{s2}^*) = 5839.7 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2.Comment: Version accepted and published by Phys. Rev. Let

    Search for displaced vertices arising from decays of new heavy particles in 7 TeV pp collisions at ATLAS

    We present the results of a search for new, heavy particles that decay at a significant distance from their production point into a final state containing charged hadrons in association with a high-momentum muon. The search is conducted in a pp-collision data sample with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 33 pb^-1 collected in 2010 by the ATLAS detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. Production of such particles is expected in various scenarios of physics beyond the standard model. We observe no signal and place limits on the production cross-section of supersymmetric particles in an R-parity-violating scenario as a function of the neutralino lifetime.     Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

    This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw > 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour, are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second include all systematic effects.Comment: 19 pages plus author list (34 pages total), 9 figures, 11 tables, revised author list, matches European Journal of Physics C versio
