Diagnostics for spectropolarimetry and magnetography

An assessment on the capabilities of modern spectropolarimeters and magnetographs is in order since most of our astrophysical results rely upon the accuracy of the instrumentation and on the sensitivity of the observables to variations of the sought physical parameters. A contribution to such an assessment will be presented in this talk where emphasis will be made on the use of the so-called response functions to gauge the probing capabilities of spectral lines and on an analytical approach to estimate the uncertainties in the results in terms of instrumental effects. Implementación de buenas prácticas logísticas en el marco de seguridad industrial, almacenamiento y gestión del control de inventarios en la empresa Yokomotos

Con este trabajo se pretende generar una implementación de una mejora logística que agregue valor, aumente la eficiencia y mejore los procesos de almacenamiento y distribución, gestión del control de inventarios y seguridad industrial de la empresa YOKOMOTOS. Se realizó un estudio profundo de la situación y los problemas que tiene actualmente la empresa. Todo esto con el fin de dar resultados que diferencien a esta compañía en el mercado de los repuestos para motos, obteniendo mayor prestigio y reconocimiento a nivel latinoamericano. De igual forma se establecieron las posibles soluciones que permitieran mitigar estos problemas, mejorando los procesos en el área de almacenamiento, sistema de inventarios y seguridad industrial. Se realizaron diferentes pruebas piloto para analizar la viabilidad de nuestras soluciones, analizando espacios, tiempos y costos. Por último se implementó la mejor solución la cual se ajustó respondiendo a los requerimientos de la compañía, mejorando así los procesos de almacenamiento y distribución agregándole valor a su cadena.This work is an approach to an improved implementation of logistics in the process of distribution, storage and handling of inventory. This is done through an intensive study of the current situation of the company and the analysis of the cause of the problems currently living YOKOMOTOS, was selected for this important information for our study. Were established that allowed solutions to mitigate these problems, which conducted an improvement in the storage area, inventory system and industrial safety. Various pilot tests were conducted to analyze the viability of our solutions, analyzing space, time and costs. Finally, we implemented the best solution which was adjusted in response to the requirements of the company, thereby improving the storage and distribution processes adding value to its string. La inserción socioprofesional de los inmigrantes en Andalucía

En las últimas décadas, un fenómeno nuevo ha irrumpido de forma intensa, rápida y estable en las sociedades española y andaluza. Nos referimos a la inmigración económica. Las políticas sobre inmigración han mostrado un interés permanente en conseguir la integración social de los extranjeros en los países de acogida. La importancia del empleo no ha pasado desapercibida para las políticas de integración social ni para los propios inmigrantes económicos, ya que constituye la principal fuente de renta y de estatus de los individuos en nuestra sociedad. Partimos de la hipótesis, más verificada que rechazada, de que la integración social está íntimamente relacionada con la inserción en el mercado de trabajo y el desarrollo de unas trayectorias laborales estables. Por ello, en el presente artículo, nos centramos en analizar la inserción socioprofesional de los inmigrantes económicos en la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía como indicador fundamental a la hora de estimar sus posibilidades de integración social.In the last few decades a new phenomenon has burst intensively and rapidly into Spanish and Andalusian societies, and established itself: economic immigration. Immigration policies have shown a continuous interest in achieving the social integration of foreigners in host societies. The importance of employment has not gone unnoticed by social integration policies, nor by the economic immigrants themselves, since employment is the main source of income and status for individuals in our society. We begin from the hypothesis, more accepted than rejected, that achieving social integration is closely related to entering the labour market and maintaining stable employment. Applying A Methodology For Educating Students With Special Needs: A Case Study

The introduction of innovative educational technologies opens up new ways of interacting with students. We propose to exploit this potential to help in the education of children with special needs. We analyze the state of the art of tools supporting the teaching process, focusing on the omissions of existing research. We propose a new framework to help throughout the whole teaching process and describe its application to Proyecto Aprender (Learn Project), an educational resource targeting children with learning difficulties. Finally, we outline some conclusions and current/future research lines

El origen causal de la imposibilidad según Enrique de Gante

A critical translation of two quodlibetal questions by Henry of Ghent on the causal origin of impossibility, preceded by a preliminary study that analyses both questions within the general framework of his relational ontology. In the first one (VI.3), Henry concludes that the impossibility of something comes from the thing itself (ex parte rei); while in the second one (VIII.3), he holds that the impossibility of something comes from God (ex parte dei). The textual and philosophical analysis shows, on the one hand, the continuity and dependence of the second question on the first one, and, on the other hand, the weakness of the distinction between the formal constitution of the res and its objective possibility, as well as the originality and value of the notion of nothingness (purum nihil) proposed by Henry in both questions.Traducción crítica de las dos cuestiones quodlibetales dedicadas por Enrique de Gante al origen causal de la imposibilidad, precedida de un estudio introductorio que analiza ambas cuestiones en el marco general de su ontología relacional. The molecular basis of complex phenotypes in the fire ant Solenopsis invicta

PhD ThesisUnderstanding the phenotypic diversity we observe across the tree of life is a fundamental part of research in biology. A particular case of special interest is the occurrence of several discrete phenotypes within the same population. These cases allow us to interrogate the basis of phenotypic differences without the influence of confounding factors such as phylogenetic distance or geographical barriers. The steady reduction in sequencing price of the past decades has resulted in more molecular data available for specific organisms where phenotypic differences occur within a single population. This thesis focuses on one such organism, the fire ant Solenopsis invicta, to shed light on the molecular basis of within population discrete phenotypic diversity. This species displays two types of such differences. It is socially polymorphic, which means that colonies can have two types of social organisation. Additionally, S. invicta has three types of morphological castes: queens, workers and males. Social polymorphism in this species is determined genetically, whereas caste differences are triggered by environmental cues during development. S. invicta is thus a good study system to understand different molecular mechanisms underlying discrete phenotypes. In this thesis, I use a combination of molecular data and modelling approaches to investigate the molecular underpinning of both types of phenotypic differences in S. invicta. I show that the genetic architecture maintaining different types of social organisation is likely to have arisen by a combination of evolutionary conflict and a strong influence of gene flow fluctuations between phenotypes. I also show that caste differences depend on the expression of thousands of genes, most of which are tissue specific. These results are put in the context of the wider theoretical framework, and provide further understanding on the evolution of phenotypic diversit

Moisture Evaporation from Granular Biopesticides Containing Quiescent Entomopathogenic Nematodes

The moisture evaporation process from granular biopesticides (GBs) containing entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) has influence in the shelf-life of these biological products, but the approach to design GBs with desired transport properties lacks of theoretical support to get closer in a better way to formulations design of long-term storage. In this chapter we review the state of art in theoretical studies about the physics of the moisture evaporation to elucidate what are the mechanisms of drying of GBs. We found that several external and internal factors influence the transport process of moisture exchange among others phenomenon that happened in a porous media such as GBs; consequently, complex and highly dynamic interactions between medium properties, transport processes, and boundary conditions result in a wide range of evaporation behaviors. The theory of drying process in two stages for porous materials with high moisture content seems to be a good starting point to explore further the drying of GBs at different scales and mechanistic and correlative models of evaporation are available to analyze the desiccation in different stages of the elaboration process, which is also of interest in the subject area of science and technology of the formulation of EPNs

Using collocation segmentation to augment the phrase table

This paper describes the 2010 phrase-based statistical machine translation system developed at the TALP Research Center of the UPC1 in cooperation with BMIC2 and VMU3. In phrase-based SMT, the phrase table is the main tool in translation. It is created extracting phrases from an aligned parallel corpus and then computing translation model scores with them. Performing a collocation segmentation over the source and target corpus before the alignment causes that di erent and larger phrases are extracted from the same original documents. We performed this segmentation and used the union of this phrase set with the phrase set extracted from the nonsegmented corpus to compute the phrase table. We present the con gurations considered and also report results obtained with internal and o cial test sets.Postprint (published version
