Entangled coherent states and squeezing in N trapped ions
We consider a resonant bichromatic excitation of N trapped ions that
generates displacement and squeezing in their collective motion conditioned to
their ionic internal state, producing eventually Scrhodinger cat states and
entangled squeezing. Furthermore, we study the case of tetrachromatic
illumination or producing the so called entangled coherent states in two

Reliable teleportation in trapped ions
We study a method for the implementation of a reliable teleportation protocol
(theoretically, 100% of success) of internal states in trapped ions. The
generation of the quantum channel (any of four Bell states) may be done
respecting technical limitations on individual addressing and without claiming
the Lamb-Dicke regime. An adequate Bell analyzer, that transforms unitarily the
Bell basis into a completely disentangled one, is considered. Probable sources
of error and fidelity estimations of the teleportation process are studied.
Finally, we discuss experimental issues, proposing a scenario in which the

Two Distinct, Geographically Overlapping Lineages of the Corallimorpharian Ricordea Florida (Cnidaria: Hexacorallia: Ricordeidae)
We examined the genetic variation of the corallimorpharian Ricordea florida; it is distributed throughout the Caribbean region and is heavily harvested for the marine aquarium trade. Eighty-four distinct individuals of R. florida were sequenced from four geographically distant Caribbean locations (Curaçao, Florida, Guadeloupe, and Puerto Rico). Analysis of the ribosomal nuclear region (ITS1, 5.8S, ITS2) uncovered two geographically partially overlapping genetic lineages in R. florida, probably representing two cryptic species. Lineage 1 was found in Florida and Puerto Rico, and Lineage 2 was found in Florida, Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe, and Curaçao. Because of the multi-allelic nature of the ITS region, four individuals from Lineage 1 and six from Lineage 2 were cloned to evaluate the levels of hidden intra-individual variability. Pairwise genetic comparisons indicated that the levels of intra-individual and intra-lineage variability (\u3c1%) were approximately an order of magnitude lower than the divergence (~9%) observed between the two lineages. The fishery regulations of the aquarium trade regard R. florida as one species. More refined regulations should take into account the presence of two genetic lineages, and they should be managed separately in order to preserve the long-term evolutionary potential of this corallimorpharian. The discovery of two distinct lineages in R. florida illustrates the importance of evaluating genetic variability in harvested species prior to the implementation of management policies
Quintessence and Scalar Dark Matter in the Universe
Continuing with previous works, we present a cosmological model in which dark
matter and dark energy are modeled by scalar fields and ,
respectively, endowed with the scalar potentials and . This model contains 95% of
scalar field. We obtain that the scalar dark matter mass is The solution obtained allows us to recover the success of the
standard CDM. The implications on the formation of structure are reviewed. We

Galactic Collapse of Scalar Field Dark Matter
We present a scenario for galaxy formation based on the hypothesis of scalar
field dark matter. We interpret galaxy formation through the collapse of a
scalar field fluctuation. We find that a cosh potential for the
self-interaction of the scalar field provides a reasonable scenario for
galactic formation, which is in agreement with cosmological observations and
phenomenological studies in galaxies.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figue
Single observable concurrence measurement without simultaneous copies
We present a protocol that allows us to obtain the concurrence of any two
qubit pure state by performing a minimal and optimal tomography of one of the
subsystems through measuring a single observable of an ancillary four
dimensional qudit. An implementation for a system of trapped ions is also
proposed, which can be achieved with present day experimental techniques.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Building materials with historical and heritage interest – A database in progress
Conservation and restoration of architectural heritage requires knowledge of the conservation state of its constituent materials in order to provide recommendations concerning the intervention plan, and the materials and the techniques to be used. Information on physical, chemical and mechanical characterization of materials, when available, is usually shared by different actors, but is not normally accessible by the general public. In this context, the DB-HERITAGE project intends to build a reference sample collection or repository for historical materials and an IT-tool to collect the related data on construction materials history, properties, and performance. This database is being developed to categorize materials by type and function, addressing the relevant issues in the historical context of construction materials. An overview of the database tools will be presented in this paper, exemplifying some of its outputs
