What is the Predictive Power of Market Orientation?

    Get PDF
The majority of studies on market orientation claim that compellingevidence exists that market orientation has a positive effect onbusiness performance. This study takes a closer look at forty studiesthat have addressed the relationship between market orientation andbusiness performance in the past thirteen years. The results show thatthere is no unequivocal evidence as to if and when market orientationhas a positive impact on business performance. There is however someunequivocal proof, albeit limited, on how market orientationinfluences business performance. These findings are unsettling foracademics and managers because market orientation is the foundation ofmarketing strategy.market orientation;predictive validity;business performance

Platonov revisited: past and present views on the land of the philosophers

    Get PDF
The current article highlights the most important moments in the disclosure of Platonov’s oeuvre and in the evolution of its scholarly study since the writer’s death in 1951. Special attention is paid to the major tendencies in Platonov scholarship – the predominance of politicized readings from the mid-1960s until the late perestroika era, a certain deideologization and an increased interest in philosophical and mythopoetical topics since the late 1980s, and a growing interest for the cultural and historical context(s) of Platonov’s oeuvre today. The article also serves as an introduction to the special issue of Russian Literature devoted to the changes in the scholarly study of Platonov’s oeuvre

Tools for Stability of Switching Linear Systems: Gain Automata and Delay Compensation.

    Get PDF
The topic of this paper is the analysis of stability for a class of switched linear systems, modeled by hybrid automata. In each location of the hybrid automaton the dynamics is assumed to be linear and asymptotically stable; the guards on the transitions are hyperplanes in the state space. For each location an estimate is made of the gain via a Lyapunov function for the dynamics in that location, given a pair of ingoing and outgoing transitions. It is shown how to obtain the best possible estimate by optimizing the Lyapunov function. The estimated gains are used in defining a so-called gain automaton that forms the basis of an algorithmic criterion for the stability of the hybrid automaton. The associated gain automaton provides a systematic tool to detect potential sources of instability as well as an indication on to how to stabilize the hybrid systems by requiring appropriate delays for specific transitions

Decision algorithm for the stability of planar switching linear systems

This paper presents a decision algorithm for the analysis of the stability of a class of planar switched linear systems, modeled by hybrid automata. The dynamics in each location of the hybrid automaton is assumed to be linear and asymptotically stable; the guards on the transitions are hyper planes in the state space. We show that for every pair of an ingoing and an outgoing transition related to a location, the exact gain in the norm of the vector induced by the dynamics in that location can be computed. These exact gains are used in defining a gain automaton which forms the basis of an algorithmic criterion to determine if a planar hybrid automaton is stable or not

    Further Thoughts on CRM

Skepticism and disappointment have replaced the initialenthusiasm about CRM. The disappointing results ofCRM-projects are often related to difficulties thatmanagers encounter in embedding CRM in their strategyand organization structure. In this article we presenta classification scheme on how CRM can be strategicallyembedded in organizations using the value disciplinesof Treacy and Wiersema. We use the findings from threecase studies to illustrate our classification. Based onthese case studies and interviews with managers wedistinguish between strategic and tactical CRM, andderive important issues that managers should considerbefore successfully implementing CRM.customer relationship management;marketing strategy;marketing performance

Re-verification of a Lip Synchronization Algorithm using robust reachability

    Get PDF
The timed automata formalism is an important model for specifying and analysing real-time systems. Robustness is the correctness of the model in the presence of small drifts on clocks or imprecision in testing guards. A symbolic algorithm for the analysis of the robustness of timed automata has been implemented. In this paper we re-analyse an industrial case lip synchronization protocol using the new robust reachability algorithm. This lip synchronization protocol is an interesting case because timing aspect are crucial for the correctness of the protocol. Several versions of the model are considered, with an ideal video stream, with anchored jitter, and with non-anchored jitter

Stability criteria for planar linear systems with state reset

    Get PDF
In this work we perform a stability analysis for a class of switched linear systems, modeled as hybrid automata. We deal with a switched linear planar system, modeled by a hybrid automaton with one discrete state. We assume the guard on the transition is a line in the state space and the reset map is a linear projection onto the x-axis. We define necessary and sufficient conditions for stability of the switched linear system with fixed and arbitrary dynamics in the location. \u

The Mediating Effect of NPD-Activities and NPD-Performance on the Relationship between Market Orientation and Organizational Performance

    Get PDF
Empirical research has demonstrated that a market orientation has in general a positive effect on organizational performance. The potential benefits of a market orientation have, however, not been realized because academics and practitioners do not yet understand the modus operandi that transform market orientation into superior organizational performance. Recent research has demonstrated that the proficiency in new product development (NPD) activities might be the key in the conversion of market orientation into superior NPD-performance, and hence, organizational performance. This study is designed to test a set of hypotheses related to the interrelationships among market orientation, the proficiency in NPD-activities, NPD-performance, and organizational performance. The results from a sample of 126 manufacturing firms in the Netherlands present evidence for the mediating role of the proficiency in several NPD-activities and NPD-performance in the relationship between market orientation and organizational performance. The fact that this mediating role has been found thus provides a better understanding of how market-oriented behaviors are transformed into superior value for customers.performance evaluation;innovation;statistical analysis;market orientation;studies
