Performance of adaptive bayesian equalizers in outdoor environments

Outdoor communications are affected by multipath propagation that imposes an upper limit on the system data rate and restricts possible applications. In order to overcome the degrading effect introduced by the channel, conventional equalizers implemented with digital filters have been traditionally used. A new approach based on neural networks is considered. In particular, the behavior of the adaptive Bayesian equalizer implemented by means of radial basis functions applied to the channel equalization of radio outdoor environments has been analyzed. The method used to train the equalizer coefficients is based on a channel response estimation. We compare the results obtained with three channel estimation methods: the least sum of square errors (LSSE) channel estimation algorithm, recursive least square (RLS) algorithm employed only to obtain one channel estimation and, finally, the RLS algorithm used to estimate the channel every decided symbol for the whole frame.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Performance of blind equalization with higher order statistics in indoor radio environments

This paper analyzes the performance of blind equalization using the complex cepstrum of third-order moments applied to 4-QAM time division multiple access (TDMA) indoor radio communication systems. In particular, we have modeled a dispersive indoor channel with Rice statistics. We used the blind algorithms to estimate the channel-impulse response, and from this, we computed the equalizer coefficients using a classical minimum mean square error (MMSE) algorithm. In order to evaluate the system performance, we calculated the bit error rate (BER) of a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) that uses a tricepstrum algorithm to estimate the channel-impulse response. The results are compared with those obtained using a least sum of square errors (LSSE) algorithm as a channel estimator and considering the exact channel response. The results obtained show that this kind of blind equalizer performs better than the more classically trained equalizer when Rice channels with a strong direct path and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR’s) lower than 20 dB are taken into account. However, some problems relating to the length of time needed for convergence must be solved.Peer Reviewe

El objetivo general es descubrir la nueva evangelización como culmen del deseo festivo que hay en el hombre y presentarla como un estímulo del cual tienen necesidad las comunidades cansadas y débiles, para recuperar nuevamente la alegría festiva de la experiencia cristiana que da sentido a la vida y su aspecto comunitario. Para llegar a esto, investigo el ser lúdico que existe en el interior del hombre, que se manifiesta en la cultura de las fiestas. Expongo el índice sistemático de la tesis doctoral. O-City: Implementation of an Innovative Multimedia Platform for Promoting Orange Economy

[EN] O-City is a non-profit project funded by European Union with the aim of promoting Orange Economy throughout education and collaboration among municipalities, educational entities and businesses. This project has two main assets, the O-City e-learning platform and the O-City World platform. This paper presents the technical aspects of the O-City World platform, which is a digital application that allows interaction among cities, educators and professionals. This platform has a role-based access control with seven different users able to perform different functionalities. Estrategia pedagógica dirigida a la prevención del maltrato infantil familiar en escolares primarios

The objective of the work is to be present a result obtained in the student scientific work, executed from the labor-investigative practice in the Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán elementary school of the Yara municipality, it is directed to the solution of the problem related to the prevention of family child abuse. The objective is development of an educational strategy aimed at the prevention of family child abuse. Taking into account the objective and the nature of the variables under study, and exploratory and descriptive type of research was developed, following a qualitative research methods and techniques of the hermeneutic and socio-critical paradigms and theorical level methods: documentary analysis, analitycal-syntetic, inductive-deductive, modeling and systemicstructural-functional.      El trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar un resultado obtenido en el trabajo científico estudiantil, ejecutado desde la práctica laboral-investigativa en la escuela primaria Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán del municipio Yara, está dirigido a la solución de la problemática relacionada con la prevención del maltrato infantil familiar. Sigmoid: An auto-tuned load balancing algorithm for heterogeneous systems

A challenge that heterogeneous system programmers face is leveraging the performance of all the devices that integrate the system. This paper presents Sigmoid, a new load balancing algorithm that efficiently co-executes a single OpenCL data-parallel kernel on all the devices of heterogeneous systems. Sigmoid splits the workload proportionally to the capabilities of the devices, drastically reducing response time and energy consumption. It is designed around several features; it is dynamic, adaptive, guided and effortless, as it does not require the user to give any parameter, adapting to the behaviourof each kernel at runtime. To evaluate Sigmoid's performance, it has been implemented in Maat, a system abstraction library. Experimental results with different kernel types show that Sigmoid exhibits excellent performance, reaching a utilization of 90%, together with energy savings up to 20%, always reducing programming effort compared to OpenCL, and facilitating the portability to other heterogeneous machines.This work has been supported by the Spanish Science and Technology Commission under contract PID2019-105660RB-C22 and the European HiPEAC Network of Excellence

Bluetooth: circuits, sistemes i aplicacions en l'entorn de les TIC

En el projecte s'han implementat uns mòduls formatius, que inclouen tant una vessant teòrica com una part experimental, que permetin a un estudiant de segon cicle de la ETSETB conèixer i desenvolupar aplicacions sobre un sistema de comunicacions sense fils de baix cost i àmplia acceptació comercial com és l'estàndard Bluetooth. Aquest sistema té la particularitat d'integrar aspectes horitzontals del currículum d'un enginyer de telecomunicacions, ja que comprèn aspectes de protocols de comunicacions, processat i transmissió del senyal, i integració de circuiteria digital, analògica i de radiofreqüència en tecnologia CMOS de baix cost. D'aquesta manera, a través dels mòduls formatius l'estudiant aplica i integra coneixements adquirits en assignatures del seu pla d'estudis corresponents a diverses àrees. En el projecte s'ha elaborat un temari, suportat per un material accessible a través d'una web, alhora que unes pràctiques de laboratori amb material específic. Tots aquests continguts poden ser utilitzats per diverses assignatures troncals i optatives del pla d'estudis d'Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de l'ETSETB

Capacity and coverage trade-off in WCDMA environments with repeaters deployment

radio planning, WCDMA, repeaters, capacity and coverageThis work derives the analytic expression of the feasibility condition for the uplink of a WCDMA mobile communications system with repeaters deployment in a multiservice environment with a general heterogeneous layout. In particular, a compact closed expression for the admission region is presented, suitable for a system where the users belong to an arbitrary number of different service classes. A tradeoff between capacity and coverage arises and it has been analysed both theoretically and by means of simulations. Enhanced analysis of WCDMA networks with repeaters deployment

This paper addresses the analysis of WCDMA systems with repeaters deployment. A generic and compact expression for up- and downlinks evaluation has been mathematically derived so that transmission powers and other radio resource management parameters can be calculated without simplifications. In particular, the real different path delays, taking into account the repeaters presence and the finite nature of the time window of Rake receivers are considered. This allows an enhanced analysis with respect to classical approaches from a system level viewpoint. Furthermore, higher reliable and accurate predictions on network performance can be obtained, which can be remarkably useful for network planning and management. By using these expressions, relevant network parameters have been evaluated and compared with the ones obtained using the classical approximations. The differences in the obtained metrics are highlighted, putting in evidence the improvement provided by the proposed analysis.Peer Reviewe
