A new approach to treating sleep disorders? - Medical marijuana review

Insomnia, defined as difficulty falling or staying asleep, significantly impacts the quality of life and mental health of people worldwide. In recent years, there has been growing interest in using medical marijuana as an alternative treatment method for various conditions, including sleep disorders. The purpose of this review is to examine the available scientific evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of using medical marijuana in the treatment of insomnia. Analyzing data from clinical, observational, and experimental studies, this work aims to present a comprehensive picture of the potential benefits and risks associated with such treatment. This review seeks to provide doctors, patients, and policymakers with up-to-date information that can support the decision-making process regarding the use of medical marijuana as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of insomnia, highlighting both the therapeutic potential and the need for further research in this field

Determination of oxygen affinity and allosteric parameters of respiratory proteins

Oxygen affinity of respiratory proteins is characterized by three parameters: P50, n, K (terms of the Hill plot). They are derived from oxygen dissociation curves determined usually by the spectrophotometric method. The allosteric properties of respiratory proteins are examined by comparing the experimental data to MWC model. A computer program was written and the program calculated the rood mean square deviation between the data points (Amstrad CPC 464). From the lower and upper asymptotes of the Hill plots the 1CK and K1 values could be obtained as a first approximation. The bacterial hemoglobin

The aim of this paper is to summarize the publications concerning the bacterial hemoglobin (Vitreoscilla). This is the first bacterial hemoglobin to be sequenced and physicochemical properties are determined. It showed the maximum sequence homology (24%) with lupin leghemoglobin (Lg) which properties also have been presented. Białka hemolimfy niektórych Decapoda

Stwierdzono obecność dwóch frakcji hemocyjaninowych w hemolimfie raka amerykańsklego i błotnego oraz trzech w hemolimfie raka szlachetnego. Zawartość procentowa hemocyjaniny w hemolimfie trzech gatunków raków wynosi- ponad 90%. Hemocyjanina jest kompleksem glikolipoproteidowym, a punkty izoelektryczne jej podjednostek mieszczą się w granicach pH 5-8. Długi okres przechowywania hemolimfy w temperaturze -20°C powoduje degradacje hemocyjaniny na mniejsze podjednostki, które zachowują jednak najprawdopodobniej swoje własności funkcjonalne.On a mis en evidence la presence de deux fractions d'hemocyanine dans 1'hemolypmhe d'Orconectus limosus et Astacus leptodactylus mais trois fractions dans 1 ’hśraolymphe d'Astacus astacus. La teneur en hemocyanine dans l'hśmolymphe est plus que 90% ehez tous les trois especes des ecrevisses. l'Hemocyanine est le complexes glycclipoproteiąue et les points isoelectriąues de ses sous-unites se trouvent a pH 5-8. Tissue hemoglobins in invertebrates

In invertebrates various proteins play the role of oxygen transporter. They are dissolved in fluids of the respiratory system or present in its cells. These proteins occur also in other tissues, and therefore are called tissue hemoglobins. They play an important role evidenced by occurrence in tissues of animals possessing no other respiratory proteins in their blood or hemolymph.
