    Transforming Message Detection

The majority of existing spam filtering techniques suffers from several serious disadvantages. Some of them provide many false positives. The others are suitable only for email filtering and may not be used in IM and social networks. Therefore content methods seem to be more efficient. One of them is based on signature retrieval. However it is not change resistant. There are enhancements (e.g. checksums) but they are extremely time and resource consuming. That is why the main objective of this research is to develop a transforming message detection method. To this end we have compared spam in various languages, namely English, French, Russian and Italian. For each language the number of examined messages including spam and notspam was about 1000. 135 quantitative features have been retrieved. Almost all these features do not depend on the language. They underlie the first step of the algorithm based on support vector machine. The next stage is to test the obtained results applying N-gram approach. Special attention is paid to word distortion and text alteration. The obtaining results indicate the efficiency of the suggested approach

“Seven Against Thebes” in Mythopoetics of Vyach. Ivanov

The article offers an interpretation of Vyach. Ivanov’s dithyramb “Tsari” from his book “Kormchie zvezdy,” namely its final part, written in verset. The seven kings are celebrating a feast when the priest Melamp comes; he transforms the liquids in the kings’ cups into wine, turns himself into Dionysus, and brings seven other kings, who kill their predecessors and put on their masks. The names of the kings originate from Aeschylus’ tragedy “Seven Against Thebes,” which was later partially translated by Ivanov. Ares has a special place in this tragedy, both as the personification of war and as the patron of the Thebans: from the teeth of his sacred dragon, killed by Cadmus, grew the progenitors of the Theban clans. Ivanov suggests that Ares was a hypostasis of Dionysus, and his reasoning is very similar to the conclusions of the German philologist W.-A. Voigt. However, his supposition about the chthonic and Dionysiac nature of some of the characters participating in the campaign against Thebes stems from the opinion of other researchers. The plot of the mystery is inspired by J.G. Frazer’s “The Golden Bough” and by the rite of Lake Nemi, but in Ivanov’s text, the kings and their opponents are not priests of Jupiter but masks of the many-faced Dionysus, who is both priest and victim. Thus, the poet integrates the myth from the Theban cycle into his mythopoetics

More than 50% of the world's inhabitants are bilingual, and this percentage is expected to be increasing due to the increasing global mobility. Some people are bilingual because of the characteristics of their families, others because of migration, or because they live in a border area or a country that has several languages. Bilingualism is extremely widespread in Russia and in France. In this article, the actual and complex phenomenon of bilingualism in the contemporary cultural situation, in particular in the teaching of foreign languages, is considere

Overview of the CLEF 2023 SimpleText Lab:Automatic Simplification of Scientific Texts

    Get PDF
There is universal consensus on the importance of objective scientific information, yet the general public tends to avoid scientific literature due to access restrictions, its complex language or their lack of prior background knowledge. Academic text simplification promises to remove some of these barriers, by improving the accessibility of scientific text and promoting science literacy. This paper presents an overview of the CLEF 2023 SimpleText track addressing the challenges of text simplification approaches in the context of promoting scientific information access, by providing appropriate data and benchmarks, and creating a community of IR and NLP researchers working together to resolve one of the greatest challenges of today. The track provides a corpus of scientific literature abstracts and popular science requests. It features three tasks. First, content selection (what is in, or out?) challenges systems to select passages to include in a simplified summary in response to a query. Second, complexity spotting (what is unclear?) given a passage and a query, aims to rank terms/concepts that are required to be explained for understanding this passage (definitions, context, applications). Third, text simplification (rewrite this!) given a query, asks to simplify passages from scientific abstracts while preserving the main content.</p

Character’s Inner Speech as Effective Way of Literary Discourse Organization (Novel “The Remains of the Day” by Kazuo Ishiguro)

The article examines the protagonist’s verbalized  inner  speech  in  the   literary   text of the novel “The Remains of the Day” as a way of literary discourse organization by English novelist Kazuo Ishiguro. The  relevance of the study is explained by the interest in   the analysis of the inner speech of characters in a literary text, which differs from the natural inner speech of an individual in the ways of  linguistic  expression,  the  specifics   in the structure of the narrative. It is shown that the study of the inner speech of a character   of literary discourse using such parameters of its measurement as structural-compositional, semantic-conceptual, communicative, allows us to identify the features of the functional role of this type of speech. The novelty of the research lies in the substantiation of how the character's inner speech (introspection), being a significant unit of composition, correlates with prospection and retrospection of the text, acting as the main form of narration. The article elicits four basic concepts that organize the content of the character's inner speech. The authors of the article offer a close analysis of the rheme-theme correlation of the title of the novel and the main text as the basis of the author’s literary discourse. Particular attention is paid to the modality of the character's inner speech from the point of view of the pragmatic orientation of this type of speech towards the addressee-reader and discourse markers that influence the process of discourse interpretation

Issues of Cluster Formation in East Germany

    Get PDF
The article is devoted to modern innovation policy in Germany. The German government considers stimulation of cluster structures as a necessary condition for achieving high-tech development of the country, so the cluster policy is a component of German innovation policy. The article considers the concept of three-level organization of clusters, quantifies the value of regional asymmetry in investment in innovation. Based on the classification of clusters by M. Porter, using the methodology of the analysis of cluster sectors of the European Cluster Observatory, the author’s method of the substantive typologization of clusters by L. Markov and the model of organizational development proposed by D. Napolskikh, the identification of East German clusters was conducted, the clusters most significant for economic development of the East German states were identified. Their brief characteristics were presented and the degree of maturity was determined. The results of the research conducted by the authors of the article and the report of European experts Franco, S., Wilson, J., concerning Saxony’s clusters were compared, and recommendations on conducting cluster policy in structurally weak regions were given. The author’s maps illustrating the results of the study are included in the article
