New theoretical frontiers for corporate social responsibility: The corporate role in sustainable development of territories [Novas fronteiras teóricas para a responsabilidade social empresarial: O papel das empresas no desenvolvimento sustentável dos territórios]

This paper aims to contribute to the construction of new theoretical frameworks in critical bases on corporate responsibility in the sustainable development of territories. For this, we present at first the approaches of New Economic Sociology as a way to reflect about the development beyond the pure economic perspective. In a second step, we discuss the contradictions of sustainable development concepts and the implications of its institutionalization. Then we investigate some approaches on corporate social responsibility with focus on a critical discussion on the Theory of Stakeholders which is a very present theory in traditional studies on the role of business in sustainable development of territories

Estrutura da cadeia reversa: "caminhos" e "descaminhos" da embalagem PET Structure of the reverse chain: "ways" of PET packing

O trabalho propõe-se a discutir as possibilidades, limites e desafios da reciclagem de PET - Politereftalato de Etileno. Como fundamentação teórico-conceitual, recorre à discussão sobre a natureza e o alcance da logística reversa, analisando as estratégias para estruturação da cadeia de reciclagem. A pesquisa é de caráter exploratório, com adoção de diferentes estratégias para a coleta de dados, envolvendo fontes secundárias produzidas por órgãos públicos, instituições especializadas e mídia, e ainda entrevistas semi-estruturadas com especialistas na área. Os resultados apontam que múltiplos atores estão envolvidos na estrutura da cadeia reversa do PET e que, apesar do avanço no volume de reciclagem, nenhum dos setores, seja público ou privado, consegue individualmente organizar-se para o alcance da efetividade operacional e ambiental desejável no cenário brasileiro. O alcance de bons resultados depende, sobretudo, do investimento nos dois extremos da cadeia reversa: na coleta seletiva e no mercado para o produto reciclado.<br>The work discuss the possibilities, limits and challenges of the recycling of PET packing in the Brazilian case. The authors analyze the nature and the function of the reverse logistics and its strategies for articulation of the recycling chain. The research is based in the exploratory methodological approach, with adoption of different strategies for the collection of data, involving secondary sources produced by public institutions, specialized organizations and media, and still, interviews semi-structured with specialists in the area. The results point that the Brazilian public and private sectors doesn’t get to organize this activity in the desirable environmental scale. Good performances in the PET packing reverse chain depends on investing in the selective collection and in the market for the recycled products

Perfis visíveis na gestão social do desenvolvimento Visible profiles in the social management of development

Este artigo estuda a relação existente entre a gestão social do desenvolvimento, a performance de organizações da sociedade civil e o perfil de seus líderes. Para tanto, foram realizadas duas entrevistas, por meio da técnica da história oral, com dois gestores fundadores das respectivas organizações onde trabalham, situadas em Salvador e consideradas de reputação. Algumas questões nortearam o estudo qualitativo. Como a história de vida do seu principal gestor contribuiu para a organização ser o que é hoje? Como a sua história de vida se confunde com a história da organização? O que o levou a ser um gestor social e, mais especificamente, a fundar a organização? O que se vislumbra para o futuro da organização? Conclui-se que as organizações e seus gestores estão estreitamente imbricados e o sucesso das organizações reflete a trajetória bem-sucedida de seus líderes.<br>This article studies the relations between the social management of development, the performance of civil society organizations and their leaders' profile. For that purpose two interviews using oral history technique were carried out with two CEOs who founded their respective well-reputed organizations in the Brazilian city of Salvador. The following issues guided the qualitative study: To what extent did CEO's life history contribute to the present status of the organization? In what sense is his life history tied with the history of the organization? What turned him into a social manager, and, more particularly, what led him to found the organization? What are the expectations concerning the future of the organization? Conclusions point out that organizations and their managers are intimately imbricated, and that the success of organizations reflects the successful life history of their leaders
