An Adaptive Mechanism to Protect Databases against SQL Injection

    Get PDF
The purpose of this article is to present an adaptive and intelligent mechanism that can handle SQL injection attacks. This proposal focuses on integrating a case-based reasoning (CBR) mechanism with a neural network. The proposed solution thus adapts to changes in attack patterns and provides the ability to detect attacks independently of their evolution. A prototype of the architecture was developed and the results obtained are presented in this study. The purpose of this article is to present an adaptive and intelligent mechanism that can handle SQL injection attacks. SOAP messages use XML code, which makes them vulnerable to denial of service (DoS) attacks and puts the availability of web services at risk. This article presents an adaptive solution for dealing with DoS attacks in web service environments. The solution proposes a distributed hierarchical multiagent architecture that implements a robust mechanism of classification based on an advanced CBR-BDI agent. The agent incorporates a case-based reasoning engine that integrate a Perceptron Multilayer neural network during the re-use phase to classify incoming SOAP messages and reject those that are considered malicious. A prototype of the architecture was developed and the results obtained are presented in this study.SOAP messages use XML code, which makes them vulnerable to denial of service (DoS) attacks and puts the availability of web services at risk. An Adaptive Multi-agent Solution to Detect DoS Attack in SOAP Messages

    Get PDF
A SOAP message can be affected by a DoS attack if the incoming message has been either created or modified maliciously. The specifications of existing security standards do not focus on this type of attack. This article presents a novel distributed and adaptive approach for dealing with DoS attacks in Web Service environments, which represents an alternative to the existing centralized solutions. The solution proposes a distributed hierarchical multi-agent architecture that implements a classification mechanism in two phases. The main benefits of the approach are the distributed capabilities of the multi-agent systems and the self-adaption ability to the changes that occur in the patterns of attack. A prototype of the architecture was developed and the results obtained are presented in this study.A SOAP message can be affected by a DoS attack if the incoming message has been either created or modified maliciously. A hybrid agent-based classification mechanism to detect denial of service attacks

This paper presents the core component of a solution based on agent technology specifically adapted for the classification of SOAP messages. The messages can carry out attacks that target the applications providing Web Services. One of the most common attacks requiring novel solutions is the denial of service attack (DoS), caused for the modifications introduced in the XML of the SOAP messages. The specifications of existing security standards do not focus on this type of attack. This article presents an advanced mechanism of classification designed in two phases incorporated within a CBR-BDI Agent type. This mechanism classifies the incoming SOAP message and blocks the malicious SOAP messages. Its main feature involves the use of decision trees, fuzzy logic rules and neural networks for filtering attacks. These techniques provide a mechanism of classification with the self-adaption ability to the changes that occur in the patterns of attack. A prototype was developed and the results obtained are presented in this study. This paper presents the core component of a solution based on agent technology specifically adapted for the classification of SOAP messages.

A data mining framework based on boundary-points for gene selection from DNA-microarrays: Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma as a case study

[EN] Gene selection (or feature selection) from DNA-microarray data can be focused on different techniques, which generally involve statistical tests, data mining and machine learning. In recent years there has been an increasing interest in using hybrid-technique sets to face the problem of meaningful gene selection; nevertheless, this issue remains a challenge. In an effort to address the situation, this paper proposes a novel hybrid framework based on data mining techniques and tuned to select gene subsets, which are meaningfully related to the target disease conducted in DNA-microarray experiments. For this purpose, the framework above deals with approaches such as statistical significance tests, cluster analysis, evolutionary computation, visual analytics and boundary points. The latter is the core technique of our proposal, allowing the framework to define two methods of gene selection. Another novelty of this work is the inclusion of the age of patients as an additional factor in our analysis, which can leading to gaining more insight into the disease. In fact, the results reached in this research have been very promising and have shown their biological validity. Hence, our proposal has resulted in a methodology that can be followed in the gene selection process from DNA-microarray data
