Triangulation Rangefinder and Sight Positioning System
A rangefinder includes an angle sensitive transducer and a programmed data processor to calculate the distance to a target. In one embodiment, the rangefinder also includes a point-to-point measuring device. Another embodiment provides a linear actuator to selectively move a sight indicator vertically. A yet additional embodiment includes a liquid crystal display which displays information to the user
Assessment of energy intake and energy expenditure of male adolescent academy-level soccer players during a competitive week
This study investigated the energy intake and expenditure of professional adolescent academy-level soccer players during a competitive week. Over a seven day period that included four training days, two rest days and a match day, energy intake (self-reported weighed food diary and 24-h recall) and expenditure (tri-axial accelerometry) were recorded in 10 male players from a professional English Premier League club. The mean macronutrient composition of the dietary intake was 318 ± 24 g·dayâ1 (5.6 ± 0.4 g·kgâ1 BM) carbohydrate, 86 ± 10 g·dayâ1 (1.5 ± 0.2 g·kgâ1 BM) protein and 70 ± 7 g·dayâ1 (1.2 ± 0.1 g·kgâ1 BM) fats, representing 55% ± 3%, 16% ± 1%, and 29% ± 2% of mean daily energy intake respectively. A mean daily energy deficit of â1302 ± 1662 kJ (p = 0.035) was observed between energy intake (9395 ± 1344 kJ) and energy expenditure (10679 ± 1026 kJ). Match days (â2278 ± 2307 kJ, p = 0.012) and heavy training days (â2114 ± 2257 kJ, p = 0.016) elicited the greatest deficits between intake and expenditure. In conclusion, the mean daily energy intake of professional adolescent academy-level soccer players was lower than the energy expended during a competitive week. The magnitudes of these deficits were greatest on match and heavy training days. These findings may have both short and long term implications on the performance and physical development of adolescent soccer players
Triangulation Rangefinder for Archers
An archery rangefinder for use from an elevated position comprises a power supply for an electronic digital panel meter and a power supply for two voltage divider circuits that comprise the rangefinding circuit. One voltage divider provides a voltage signal proportional to the elevation distance. This signal acts to supply the second voltage divider to attenuate the voltage further by a factor proportional to the tangent of the inclination angle. A weighted pendulum arm is attached to a potentiometric element in the second voltage divider to effect feedback relevant to the angle of inclination. All circuits and components are housed within an outer protective enclosure. Voltage across a fixed resistor in the second voltage divider is read and displayed by said digital panel meter as the range which is then used by the archer to increase accuracy of shots
Convective instability induced by nonlocality in nonlinear diffusive systems
We consider a large class of nonlinear diffusive systems with nonlocal
coupling. By using a non-perturbative analytical approach we are able to
determine the convective and absolute instabilities of all the uniform states
of these systems. We find a huge window of convective instability that should
provide a great opportunity to study experimentally and theoretically noise

Investigating situated cultural practices through cross-sectoral digital collaborations: policies, processes, insights
The (Belfast) Good Friday Agreement represents a major milestone in Northern Ireland's recent political history, with complex conditions allowing for formation of a âcross-communityâ system of government enabling power sharing between parties representing Protestant/loyalist and Catholic/nationalist constituencies. This article examines the apparent flourishing of community-focused digital practices over the subsequent âpost-conflictâ decade, galvanised by Northern Irish and EU policy initiatives armed with consolidating the peace process. Numerous digital heritage and storytelling projects have been catalysed within programmes aiming to foster social processes, community cohesion and cross-community exchange. The article outlines two projectsââdigital memory boxesâ and âinteractive galleonââdeveloped during 2007â2008 within practice-led PhD enquiry conducted in collaboration with the Nerve Centre, a third-sector media education organisation. The article goes on to critically examine the processes involved in practically realising, and creatively and theoretically reconciling, community-engaged digital production in a particular socio-political context of academic-community collaboration
Nucleation and Growth of GaN/AlN Quantum Dots
We study the nucleation of GaN islands grown by plasma-assisted
molecular-beam epitaxy on AlN(0001) in a Stranski-Krastanov mode. In
particular, we assess the variation of their height and density as a function
of GaN coverage. We show that the GaN growth passes four stages: initially, the
growth is layer-by-layer; subsequently, two-dimensional precursor islands form,
which transform into genuine three-dimensional islands. During the latter
stage, island height and density increase with GaN coverage until the density
saturates. During further GaN growth, the density remains constant and a
bimodal height distribution appears. The variation of island height and density
as a function of substrate temperature is discussed in the framework of an
equilibrium model for Stranski-Krastanov growth.Comment: Submitted to PRB, 10 pages, 15 figure
