Second language motivational self system of sixth graders in Turkey: A correlational study

    Get PDF
Investigating the foreign and second language (L2) motivational self system (L2MSS) of Turkish sixth graders, this study reports relationships among three components (ideal L2 self, ought-to L2 self, and L2 learning experience) of the L2MSS and the variables of school type (public and private), gender, and intended effort. Data were collected from 170 students in two public and two private secondary schools in northwestern Turkey through a questionnaire. The results of correlation analysis indicate a strong positive correlation between ideal L2 self and L2 learning experience, and the variables of school type and gender did not make a difference. Intended effort was found to have a strong positive correlation with these L2MSS components. The results of multiple regression analysis provide further evidence for especially intended effort as a significant predictor of L2MSS, whereas the school type and gender did not contribute to the system. The major implications of the study and future research possibilities are discussed.WOS:000623766800002Scopus - Affiliation ID: 60105072Emerging Sources Citation IndexArticleUluslararası işbirliği ile yapılmayan - HAYIRMarch2021YÖK - 2020-2

A Research on the Characteristics of the Inspiring Teacher

In this study, it was aimed to find out the characteristics of inspiring teachers who inspired teacher candidates to do teaching profession properly. In the study, “An Exploratory Sequential Design” a mixed method where qualitative and quantitative approaches are used concomitantly, was employed to determine the inspiring teacher characteristics. In this design, two steps were respectively followed by the researcher. In the first step grounded theory research design as a qualitative research design was used and in the second step survey research model as a quantitative research design was used. Inspiring Teacher Scale (ITS) was developed by the researchers to collect the data. In the second phase, the study group was extended to continue the quantitative studies. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used first to analyze the data. The results of analysis have demonstrated that the items loaded on four factors, which reflect inspiring teacher characteristics as “teacher communication”, “personal characteristics”, “professional development” and “supporting students in different ways”. Findings suggest that ITS, which has four-factor structures with 36 items, can be suggested as a valid and reliable instrument to determine the characteristics of inspiring teacher. Therefore, in this study the characteristics inspiring teachers were specified according to opinions of teacher candidates and presented to be o model for teacher candidates

WOS: 000519521700013In this study, the banded karyotypes (C- and Ag-nucleolus organizer regions (NORs)) of Myotis emarginatus in Turkey were determined for the first time. The karyotype contained 44 chromosomes, the number of chromosomal arms (NF) was 54, and the number of autosomal arms (NFa) was 50. Slight C-heterochromatic blocks were observed in the centromeric regions of some autosome pairs, whereas the sex chromosomes were euchromatic. The Ag-NORs were detected in the short arms of a large and a medium-sized acrocentric autosome. The distribution of C-heterochromatin regions in Turkish populations of M. emarginatus is similar to those reported in some other Myotis species.Kirikkale UniversityKirikkale University [2017/038]We thank Prof. Dr. Jan Zima for his valuable comments on an earlier version of the manuscript. Conservative management of iatrogenic tracheal rupture in a 19-month-old child

Up to date, only five cases of iatrogenic tracheal rupture during rigid bronchoscopy have been reported in children. Herein, we report the first case who has recovered with spontaneous respiration without intubation. Rigid bronchoscopy of a 19-month-old girl revealed a foreign body at the right main bronchus. While the bronchoscope was being withdrawn, we identified a 0.5-cm longitudinal mucosal laceration along the right wall of the membranous trachea. As her spontaneous respiration was adequate, she was treated conservatively. For the treatment of tracheal lacerations, while early surgical repair has traditionally been acceptable, evidence supporting conservative treatment is increasing, particularly in paediatric cases. If spontaneous respiration is sufficient, bridging the laceration with an endotracheal tube may not be required

SOCCER MATCH INDUCED FATIGUE EFFECT ON LANDING BIOMECHANIC AND NEUROMUSCULAR PERFORMANCE

###EgeUn###Introduction: Insufficiencies in landing biomechanics and neuromuscular fatique that induced from sportive activities are risk factor for sport injuries. The combination of these factors increases the risk of sports injuries. Aim of the study was to evaluate the of effectivness of soccer match induced fatigue on landing biomechanical parameters and neuromuscular performance. Materials and methods: Eighteen young professional male soccer players were included the study. Fatigue level was assessed with the Borg Rate of Perceived Exertion and Pain Scale (BRPEPS). Neuromuscular function measured using a force platform during drop jump test. The Landing Error Scoring System (LESS) was used for infucient of landing biomechanics. The night before the offical march when players were not tired was selected for the pre-match test. The post-match test was conducted in two hours following the end of the match. Results: The difference of pre and post match the BRPEPS was statistically significant (p < 0.05). There were no statistically signcant differences between pre-match and post-match neuromuscular performance values. However, pre-match and post-match LESS scores were statistically significant different (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded thatfatigue that occurs in a soccer match disrupts landing biomechanics. Impairment of landing biontechanics doesn't relented with neuromuscular function, but reduction of postural control, proprioceptive acuity and neromuscular control may affect landing bionzechanics.Altinordu Football ClubThanks to Altinordu Football Club and its employees for their support.
