Temperature effect on the characteristics and lifetime of semiconductor detectors
The paper reports the results from studies into the effect of temperature on the performance characteristics of planar
silicon detectors designed and manufactured at the NSC KIPT. A variety of techniques are demonstrated for
measuring the temperature effect on various static and spectral characteristics of single-channel planar detectors. The
relationship between the static characteristics of detectors and their long-term stability and lifetime is considered.Приведены результаты исследования воздействия температуры на характеристики планарных кремниевых детекторов, спроектированных и изготовленных в ННЦ ХФТИ. Strong-field terahertz-optical mixing in excitons
Driving a double-quantum-well excitonic intersubband resonance with a
terahertz (THz) electric field of frequency \omega_{THz} generated terahertz
optical sidebands \omega=\omega_{THz}+\omega_{NIR} on a weak NIR probe. At high
THz intensities, the intersubband dipole energy which coupled two excitons was
comparable to the THz photon energy. In this strong-field regime the sideband
intensity displayed a non-monotonic dependence on the THz field strength. The
oscillating refractive index which gives rise to the sidebands may be
understood by the formation of Floquet states, which oscillate with the same
periodicity as the driving THz field.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Quantum-critical pairing with varying exponents
We analyse the onset temperature T_p for the pairing in cuprate
superconductors at small doping, when tendency towards antiferromagnetism is
strong. We consider the model of Moon and Sachdev (MS), which assumes that
electron and hole pockets survive in a paramagnetic phase. Within this model,
the pairing between fermions is mediated by a gauge boson, whose propagator
remains massless in a paramagnet. We relate the MS model to a generic
\gamma-model of quantum-critical pairing with the pairing kernel \lambda
(\Omega) \propto 1/\Omega^{\gamma}. We show that, over some range of
parameters, the MS model is equivalent to the \gamma-model with \gamma =1/3
(\lambda (\Omega) \propto \Omega^{-1/3}). We find, however, that the parameter
range where this analogy works is bounded on both ends. At larger deviations
from a magnetic phase, the MS model becomes equivalent to the \gamma-model with
varying \gamma >1/3, whose value depends on the distance to a magnetic
transition and approaches \gamma =1 deep in a paramagnetic phase. Very near the
transition, the MS model becomes equivalent to the \gamma-model with varying
\gamma <1/3. Right at the magnetic QCP, the MS model is equivalent to the
\gamma-model with \gamma =0+ (\lambda (\Omega) \propto \log \Omega), which is
the model for color superconductivity. Using this analogy, we verified the
formula for T_c derived for color superconductivity.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, submitted to JLTP for a focused issue on Quantum

Examination ofmulti-layer silicon detector in measurementofelectron spectrumfor beta-decayof ⁹⁰SR- ⁹⁰Y
Brief survey of recent achievements in investigations of nuclear beta decays is given with some emphasis on
superallowed 0⁺→ 0⁺ Fermi transitions between T=1 nuclear states. Progress in construction of a detecting system
for registration of electrons and positrons in studies of beta transitions is discussed. The spectra of electrons emitted
in decay of
⁹⁰Sr and ⁹⁰Y nuclides are measured with the help of double-sided silicon detector. The spectra obtained
are compared with results of computer simulation.

Development of technique for testing the long-term stability of silicon microstrip detectors
An automatic multi-channel set-up prototype for simultaneous testing of the Long-Term Stability (LTS)
*
of more
than ten detectors is described. The Inner Tracking System of the ALICE experiment will include about two thousand
Double-Sided Microstrip Detectors (DSMD). Efficient automatic measurement techniques are crucial for the
LTS test, because the corresponding test procedure should be performed on each detector and requires long times, at
least two days. By using special adapters for supporting and connecting the bare DSMDs, failing detectors can be
screened out before module assembly, thus minimizing the cost. Automated probe stations developed for a special
purpose or for microelectronics industry are used for measuring physical static DSMD characteristics and check
good-to-bad element ratio for DSMD. However, automated (or semi-automatic) test benches for studying LTS or
testing DSMD long-term stability before developing a detecting module are absent.Важная часть тестирования детектора и процедура определения гарантии качества состоит в изучении долговременной стабильности основных характеристик (ДСХ) детекторов, включая исследование эффектов влияния окружающей среды, таких как влажность или температура. Bosonic representation of one-dimensional Heisenberg ferrimagnets
The energy structure and the thermodynamics of ferrimagnetic Heisenberg
chains of alternating spins S and s are described in terms of the Schwinger
bosons and modified spin waves. In the Schwinger representation, we average the
local constraints on the bosons and diagonalize the Hamiltonian at the
Hartree-Fock level. In the Holstein-Primakoff representation, we optimize the
free energy in two different ways introducing an additional constraint on the
staggered magnetization. A new modified spin-wave scheme, which employs a
Lagrange multiplier keeping the native energy structure free from temperature
and thus differs from the original Takahashi Scheme, is particularly stressed
as an excellent language to interpret one-dimensional quantum ferrimagnetism.
Other types of one-dimensional ferrimagnets and the antiferromagnetic limit S=s
are also mentioned.Comment: to be published in Phys. Rev. B 69, No. 6, 0644XX (2004
