The purpose of this study is to show what the knowledge of poetic devices being taught in primary, middle and high schools is, and what the extent of the knowledge is in the textbooks of each grade. After presenting the contents of poetic devices in the curriculum and textbooks, I analyzed vertical organization of the knowledge in terms of sequence and continuity. Sequence of knowledge is determined by simplicity and complexity, an essential prerequisite, and whole and parts. I argued that the curriculum should cover mental images followed by metaphor by simplicity, and also consider poetic speaker by an essential prerequisite to understand poem as discourse. Continuity is determined by importance. It could be agreed that rhyme and meter, poetic speaker and metaphor are critical poetic devices to understand poetry. In teachers college, students who want to be a Korean language teacher in the near future should be provided with the opportunity to experience and learn how the poetic devices work in reading and writing a poem. Thats why we need a detailed follow-up study about selecting and organizing poetic devices as contents of curriculum

[์˜๋ฌธ] This research was done to provide fundamental data for more effective in- service education for nurses in public health centers by identifying the demands and conditions under which they work. The subjects for the research all of the were 650 nurses, who were working, when the research was done in May.1998, in the 49 public health center which were selected by stratified random sampling for inclusion in the study. For the research method, this researcher used a questionnaire developed for use by the Korea Nurses Association,Public Health Nurses Association and the National Institute of Health. This questionnaire is used in in-service education for nurses and also in job training. It was examined for validity by ten public health center nurses after being modified with the help of two nurse professors and a researcher from the Offical Training Organization. The date collection period was 16 days from May 9 to May 25,1998. A total of 550 questionnaires of the 650 which were distributed, were returned but only 520 were used for the final analysis as 30 could not be analyzed. The data were analyzed with SAS using percentages, averages, Standard variation, chi-square, t-test and ANOVA. The research outcomes are summarized as follows. 1) Of the respondents reporting on the actual condition of nurse training in the public health centers in 1997. 96% of them reported having had training in nursing patients with dementia and in sex counseling and some other programmes. As a result of the training in those programmes they were able to participate more fully in meeting the needs of their clients and they found the programmes helpful in improving their work. These programms were found to be more helpful to nurses who were older or had longer work experience and to those in higher or lower positions as compared to those in middle positions. 2) High Satisfaction for the training courses which came into operation in 1997,averaged 3.82 for "helpful to gather new knowledge" 3.52 for "positive attitude and self-confidence"and 3.50 for "choosing tutors". Low satisfaction averaged 2.80 for "difficulty of participation due to restricted time of program" 2.71 for "Helpfulness in administrative operation" 2.89 for "using various training methods". Also training programmes Public Health Nurse Association were reported as more helpful than progammes by the Korea Nurses Association as far as practical business applications and improvements in technical competence were concerned. Administrative operation, human relations, choice of tutors and participation fees were reported to be suitable. 3) Of the respondents, 48.2% had participated in other programmes in 1997. The average participation time was 57 hours and 77.1% of them had paticipated for more than 10 hours. Of the public health center nurses, 58.3% said the motive for participating in the programmes was to be more exffective in their work. The order of subject preference in the other programmes sex counseling, vaccinations, public health administration/practical business, the health of the aged, health visiting, nursing at birth, computer programmes, managing diseases of adult people and mental health.
