Installation and Test of the ATLAS Muon Endcap Trigger Chamber Electronics

    Get PDF
For the detector commissioning planned in 2007, a sector assembly of the ATLAS muon endcap trigger chambers is being progressed in CERN. Final technical test of the electronics mounted on a sector must be made at this stage. For systematic test of the electronics (sector test), we have developed a DAQ system on top of the ATLAS online software framework. The system is not dedicated only for this test, but can be used also for the front-end detector part of the overall ATLAS DAQ system. In the presentation, the procedure, meaning and results of the sector test are discussed after brief introduction of the TGC electronics and the sector structure as a construction unit. We introduce plans of further detailed and elaborated tests for the whole system using cosmic ray and single halo muons when all the TGC sub-detector part is completed as concluding remark

Measurement of the cross-section and forward-backward charge asymmetry for the b and c-quark in e+e- annihilation with inclusive muons at sqrt(s) = 58 GeV

We have studied inclusive muon events using all the data collected by the TOPAZ detector at sqrt(s)=58 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 273pb-1. From 1328 inclusive muon events, we measured the ratio R_qq of the cross section for qq-bar production to the total hadronic cross section and forward-backward asymmetry A^q_FB for b and c quarks. The obtained results are R_bb = 0.13+-0.02(stat)+-0.01(syst), R_cc = 0.36+-0.05(stat)+-0.05(syst), A^b_FB = -0.20+-0.16(stat)+-0.01(syst) and A^c_FB = -0.17+-0.14(stat)+-0.02(syst), in fair agreement with a prediction of the standard model.Comment: To be published in EPJ C. 24 pages, 12 figure

Search for R-parity violating supersymmetry via the LLE couplings lambda_{121}, lambda_{122} or lambda_{133} in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV

A search for gaugino pair production with a trilepton signature in the framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry via the couplings lambda_121, lambda_122, or lambda_133 is presented. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of L~360/pb, were collected from April 2002 to August 2004 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. This analysis considers final states with three charged leptons with the flavor combinations eel, mumul, and eetau (l=e or mu). No evidence for supersymmetry is found and limits at the 95% confidence level are set on the gaugino pair production cross section and lower bounds on the masses of the lightest neutralino and chargino are derived in two supersymmetric models.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures (fig2 includes 3 subfigures

Search for W' boson production in the W'->tb decay channel

    Get PDF
We present a search for the production of a new heavy gauge boson W' that decays to a top quark and a bottom quark. We have analyzed 230 pb^{-1} of data collected with the Dzero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation is found in any region of the final state invariant mass distribution. We set upper limits on the production cross section of W' bosons times branching ratio to top quarks at the 95% confidence level for several different W' boson masses. We exclude masses between 200 GeV and 610 GeV for a W' boson with standard-model-like couplings, between 200 GeV and 630 GeV for a W' boson with right-handed couplings that is allowed to decay to both leptons and quarks, and between 200 GeV and 670 GeV for a W' boson with right-handed couplings that is only allowed to decay to quarks.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, accepted by Phys. We present a study of the decay B_s^0 -> J/psi phi We obtain the CP-odd fraction in the final state at time zero, R_perp = 0.16 +/- 0.10 (stat) +/- 0.02 (syst), the average lifetime of the (B_s, B_sbar) system, tau (B_s^0) =1.39^{+0.13}_{-0.16} (stat) ^{+0.01}_{-0.02} (syst) ps, and the relative width difference between the heavy and light mass eigenstates, Delta Gamma/Gamma = (Gamma_L - Gamma_H)/Gamma =0.24^{+0.28}_{-0.38} (stat) ^{+0.03}_{-0.04} (syst). With the additional constraint from the world average of the B_s^0$lifetime measurements using semileptonic decays, we find tau (B_s^0)= 1.39 +/- 0.06 ~ps and Delta Gamma/\Gamma = 0.25^{+0.14}_{-0.15}. For the ratio of the B_s^0 and B^0 lifetimes we obtain tau(B_s^0)/tau(B^0)} = 0.91 +/- 0.09 (stat) +/- 0.003 (syst).Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. FERMILAB-PUB-05-324-

Measurement of the Bs0B^{0}_{s} Lifetime Using Semileptonic Decays

We report a measurement of the Bs0B^0_{s} lifetime in the semileptonic decay channel Bs0→Ds−Ό+ÎœXB^0_{s}\to D^-_s \mu^{+}\nu X (and its charge conjugate), using approximately 0.4 fb−1^{-1} of data collected with the D0 detector during 2002 -- 2004. We have reconstructed 5176 Ds−Ό+D^-_s \mu^{+} signal events, where the Ds−D_s^- is identified via the decay Ds−→ϕπ−D_s^-\to \phi\pi^-, followed by ϕ→K+K−\phi\to K^+ K^-. Using these events, we have measured the Bs0B^0_s lifetime to be τ(Bs0)=1.398±0.044\tau(B^0_{s}) = 1.398 \pm 0.044 (stat)−0.025+0.028({stat}) ^{+0.028}_{-0.025} (syst)ps({syst}) {ps}. This is the most precise measurement of the Bs0B_s^0 lifetime to date.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev. Lett., 7 pages, 2 figure

We present a search for W b \bar{b} production in p \bar{p} collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in events containing one electron, an imbalance in transverse momentum, and two b-tagged jets. Using 174 pb-1 of integrated luminosity accumulated by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, and the standard-model description of such events, we set a 95% C.L. upper limit on W b \bar{b}productionof6.6pbforbquarkswithtransversemomentapTb>20GeVandbbˉseparationinpseudorapidity−azimuthspaceDeltaRbb>0.75.Restrictingthesearchtooptimizedbbˉmassintervalsprovidesupperlimitson production of 6.6 pb for b quarks with transverse momenta p_T^b > 20 GeV and b \bar{b} separation in pseudorapidity-azimuth space Delta R_bb > 0.75. A measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in proton anti-proton collisions at an interaction energy of sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV is presented. This analysis uses 405 pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Fully hadronic ttbar decays with final states of six or more jets are separated from the multijet background using secondary vertex tagging and a neural network. The ttbar cross section is measured as sigma(ttbar)=4.5 -1.9 +2.0 (stat) -1.1 +1.4 (syst) +/- 0.3 (lumi) pb for a top quark mass of m(t) = 175 GeV/c^2.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures, submitted to Phys. Charmless Hadronic Two-Body B Meson Decays

    Get PDF
We report the results of a study of two-body B meson decays to the complete set of K pi, pi pi, and K K final states. The study is performed on a data sample of 31.7 +/- 0.3 million B B-bar events recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle experiment at KEKB. We observe significant signals in all K pi final states and in the pi+ pi- and pi+ pi0 final states. We set limits on the pi0 pi0 and K K final states. A search is performed for partial-rate asymmetries between conjugate states for flavor-specific final states.Comment: Submitted to PR
