    Brand gender and consumer-based brand equity on Facebook: The mediating role of consumer-brand engagement and brand love

    Brand gender has been suggested as a relevant source of consumer-based brand equity (CBBE). The purpose of this paper is to deepen understanding of the relationship between brand gender and CBBE by analyzing the mediating roleofconsumer–brandengagement (CBE)andbrandlove(BL)onthisrelationship.Thisresearchwas conducted on Facebook, the dominant global social media platform. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling. Results support 6 of the 9 hypotheses, with a significant relationship between analyzed constructs. This study advances prior work by showing that brand gender has an indirect and relevant impact on CBBE through BL and CBE. Therefore, this research confirms the advantages of clear gender positioning and extends prior research by suggesting that brands with a strong gender identity will encourage BL and CB

    O projeto “Colorir para agir” foi concebido e implementado com o objetivo de alertar para a problemática crescente da violência escolar e contribuir para a prevenção e diminuição das práticas agressivas de crianças em idade escolar, procurando valorizar a convivência harmoniosa entre pares. Aliando a educação não formal às artes, este programa de intervenção desenvolveu um conjunto de atividades no âmbito das artes plásticas, abrangendo 21 crianças, com idades compreendidas entre os 6 e os 13 anos de um Agrupamento de Escolas de Valongo do Vouga, no concelho de Águeda (Portugal). Estas culminaram na realização de um mural gigante pintado na parede exterior da instituição, que ficou como símbolo da não violência escolar e da educação para a paz

    OBJECTIVE: To compare the performance of the references (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey I, National Center for Health Statistics/2000, International Obesity Task Force and Pesquisa Nacional sobre Saúde e Nutrição) to assess the nutritional status of children and adolescents with the new reference of body mass index values proposed by the World Health Organization in 2007. METHODS: Cross-sectional study that enrolled a non-probabilistic sample of 5,122 children and adolescents of low socioeconomic status. In the matrix study, sample size was calculated in order to identify the association between blood pressure changes and stunting in different nutritional status. This interim report relates to the comparison among different references for assessment of nutritional status. Cochran's Q, McNemar, chisquare and Kappa statistics were used to compare the proportion of underweight and overweight by different references and the agreement among them. RESULTS: The five references used in this study showed differences between them. Both for boys as for girls, the estimated prevalence of underweight by the Brazilian reference is much smaller than with the other references. For overweight girls, a higher prevalence was detected by the Pesquisa Nacional sobre Saúde e Nutrição reference, followed by the World Health Organization/2007. There was an excellent agreement (k>0.75) between the references regarding overweight, but the agreement among them regarding underweight was weak (k0.75) entre la mayoría de las clasificaciones para exceso de peso analizadas. Sin embargo, la concordancia entre las clasificaciones para bajo peso se presentódébil (k0,75) entre a maioria das classificações para excesso de peso analisadas. Porém, a concordância entre as classificações para baixo peso apresentou-se fraca (k<0,40).     The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of ROS: New Insights on Aging and Aging-Related Diseases from Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Model Organisms

    Aging is associated with the accumulation of cellular damage over the course of a lifetime. This process is promoted in large part by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated via cellular metabolic and respiratory pathways. Pharmacological, nonpharmacological, and genetic interventions have been used to target cellular and mitochondrial networks in an effort to decipher aging and age-related disorders. While ROS historically have been viewed as a detrimental byproduct of normal metabolism and associated with several pathologies, recent research has revealed a more complex and beneficial role of ROS in regulating metabolism, development, and lifespan. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in ROS research, focusing on both the beneficial and harmful roles of ROS, many of which are conserved across species from bacteria to humans, in various aspects of cellular physiology. These studies provide a new context for our understanding of the parts ROS play in health and disease. Moreover, we highlight the utility of bacterial models to elucidate the molecular pathways by which ROS mediate aging and aging-related diseases

    Metallo-Dielectric Colloidal Films as SERS Substrate

    Along this chapter, we probe that the discrete dipole approximation models fairly well the optical response of periodic systems. Herein, we use it to model the reflectance and transmittance, at normal incidence, of colloidal films made of SiO2 spheres. As the thickness increases from 1 to 12 layers, the photonic band gap shifts to the blue tending to the value corresponding to a 3D opal, 442 nm. A film with more than eight layers resembles the bulk properties of a 3D opal. Our results are compared to a real sample. Besides, we show that taking advantage of the wide and asymmetrical absorbance spectrum of an opal with Au NPs is possible to identify the contribution of each component in the overall spectrum, through a deconvolution analysis. Finally, we present the electric field intensity as the content of metal NP increases in a monolayer. We consider NPs one order of magnitude smaller than the silica spheres, and then, 6, 9, and 17 NPs are hosted in the void. Similar average electric field intensities, about 11 times the incident intensity, are obtained with Au and Ag NPs. But, the spots with these intensities cover a bigger area with Ag NPs than with Au NPs

    The Globular Cluster System of the Coma cD Galaxy NGC 4874 from Hubble Space Telescope ACS and WFC3/IR Imaging

    We present new HST optical and near-infrared (NIR) photometry of the rich globular cluster (GC) system of NGC 4874, the cD galaxy in the core of the Coma cluster (Abell 1656). NGC 4874 was observed with the HST Advanced Camera for Surveys in the F475W (g) and F814W (I) passbands and the Wide Field Camera 3 IR Channel in F160W (H). The GCs in this field exhibit a bimodal optical color distribution with more than half of the GCs falling on the red side at g-I > 1. Bimodality is also present, though less conspicuously, in the optical-NIR I-H color. Consistent with past work, we find evidence for nonlinearity in the g-I versus I-H color-color relation. Our results thus underscore the need for understanding the detailed form of the color-metallicity relations in interpreting observational data on GC bimodality. We also find a very strong color-magnitude trend, or "blue tilt," for the blue component of the optical color distribution of the NGC 4874 GC system. A similarly strong trend is present for the overall mean I-H color as a function of magnitude; for M_814 < -10 mag, these trends imply a steep mass-metallicity scaling with Z∝MGC1.4±0.4Z\propto M_{\rm GC}^{1.4\pm0.4}, but the scaling is not a simple power law and becomes much weaker at lower masses. As in other similar systems, the spatial distribution of the blue GCs is more extended than that of the red GCs, partly because of blue GCs associated with surrounding cluster galaxies. In addition, the center of the GC system is displaced by 4+/-1 kpc towards the southwest from the luminosity center of NGC 4874, in the direction of NGC 4872. Finally, we remark on a dwarf elliptical galaxy with a noticeably asymmetrical GC distribution. Interestingly, this dwarf has a velocity of nearly -3000 km/s with respect to NGC 4874; we suggest it is on its first infall into the cluster core and is undergoing stripping of its GC system by the cluster potential.Comment: 24 pages, 20 figures, accepted for publication in Ap
