Towards a Measurement of the Inclusive W->ev Cross Section in pp Collisions at sqrt(s) = 14 TeV

We present the methods for an early measurement of the inclusive W->ev production cross section in pp collisions at sqrt(s)= 14 TeV. The methods are studied assuming 10 inverse picobarn integrated luminosity of the data and conditions of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the early data taking period.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, Contribution to the proceedings of the 43rd Rencontres de Moriond, QCD and High Energy Interactions section, March 2008, La Thuile, Ital

Real-time Optimal Resource Allocation for Embedded UAV Communication Systems

    Get PDF
We consider device-to-device (D2D) wireless information and power transfer systems using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a relay-assisted node. As the energy capacity and flight time of UAVs is limited, a significant issue in deploying UAV is to manage energy consumption in real-time application, which is proportional to the UAV transmit power. To tackle this important issue, we develop a real-time resource allocation algorithm for maximizing the energy efficiency by jointly optimizing the energy-harvesting time and power control for the considered (D2D) communication embedded with UAV. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms as running time for solving them can be conducted in milliseconds.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, 1 table. ECONOMIC Potential of Renewable Energy in Vietnam's Power Sector

    Get PDF
A bottom-up Integrated Resource Planning model is used to examine the economic potential of renewable energy in Vietnam’s power sector. In a baseline scenario without renewables, coal provides 44% of electricity generated from 2010 to 2030. The use of renewables could reduce that figure to 39%, as well as decrease the sector’s cumulative emission of CO2 by 8%, SO2 by 3%, and NOx by 4%. In addition, renewables could avoid installing 4.4GW in fossil fuel generating capacity, conserve domestic coal, decrease coal and gases imports, improving energy independence and security. Wind could become cost-competitive assuming high but plausible on fossil fuel prices, if the cost of the technology falls to 900 US$/kW

Budgeting plan by making the Balanced Scorecard for Virvatuli-Valaisimet outlet in Kemi

This research is focused on the field of budgeting planning and the Balanced Scorecard. The objective of this research is to evaluate the efficiency of using budget for making investment decisions. In this thesis work, qualitative research method is applied. In agreement with research questions, explanatory research methodology is suitable for this thesis because it links theoretical strategy planning to the empirical case company analysis. Hence, the data collection is mainly conducted by making interviews and analyzing the case company’s documentation. In addition, secondary data such as scientific journals and books by established and expert authors discussing the budget and its construction as well as the Balanced Scorecard are used. This outcome of this research is an effective budgeting plan for Virvatuli-Valaisimet outlet in Kemi. The budgeting plan is constructed in the form of the Balance Scorecard and the strategy map as well as the Master Budget model. The Balanced Scorecard and the Master Budget model can be used by the case company for building strategy on the measurement performance system. It is suggested that future research be carried out to apply strategy map for implementing strategic plan in the Balanced Scorecard
