    This paper presents a brief overview of past and current hardware acceleration (HwA) approaches that have been proposed for the most computationally intensive compression tools of the MPEG-4 standard. These approaches are classified based on their historical evolution and architectural approach. An analysis of both evolutionary and functional classifications is carried out in order to speculate on the possible trends of the HwA architectures to be employed in mobile video platforms

    The Evolutionary Origin of the Runx/CBFbeta Transcription Factors – Studies of the Most Basal Metazoans

    BACKGROUND. Members of the Runx family of transcriptional regulators, which bind DNA as heterodimers with CBFβ, are known to play critical roles in embryonic development in many triploblastic animals such as mammals and insects. They are known to regulate basic developmental processes such as cell fate determination and cellular potency in multiple stem-cell types, including the sensory nerve cell progenitors of ganglia in mammals. RESULTS. In this study, we detect and characterize the hitherto unexplored Runx/CBFβ genes of cnidarians and sponges, two basal animal lineages that are well known for their extensive regenerative capacity. Comparative structural modeling indicates that the Runx-CBFβ-DNA complex from most cnidarians and sponges is highly similar to that found in humans, with changes in the residues involved in Runx-CBFβ dimerization in either of the proteins mirrored by compensatory changes in the binding partner. In situ hybridization studies reveal that Nematostella Runx and CBFβ are expressed predominantly in small isolated foci at the base of the ectoderm of the tentacles in adult animals, possibly representing neurons or their progenitors. CONCLUSION. These results reveal that Runx and CBFβ likely functioned together to regulate transcription in the common ancestor of all metazoans, and the structure of the Runx-CBFβ-DNA complex has remained extremely conserved since the human-sponge divergence.     Desarrolla la implementación de un modelo de datos en el entorno Big Data de una entidad bancaria llevado a cabo en el año 2021. Busca incrementar la rentabilidad del negocio de compra y venta de divisas, identificando a potenciales clientes que requerían realizar ese tipo de operaciones y optimizando el spread comercial. La construcción del modelo se realizó utilizando el marco de trabajo Scrum y se usaron las tecnologías Spark en su versión 2.4 y Python en su versión 3 para los procesamientos de datos. La entidad bancaria tuvo un incremento de clientes en un 3.38% posterior a la implementación del modelo, así mismo se identificó que la rentabilidad del negocio se incrementó en un 4.57% en sus operaciones de cambio de divisas

    Age-related changes to human stratum corneum lipids detected using time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry following in vivo sampling

    This work demonstrates the ability to detect changes in both quantity and spatial distribution of human stratum corneum (SC) lipids from samples collected in vivo. The SC functions as the predominant barrier to the body, protecting against the penetration of xenobiotic substances. Changes to the SC lipid composition have been associated with barrier impairment and consequent skin disorders and it is therefore important to monitor and quantify changes to this structure. This work demonstrates the first reported use of time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) to assess physiological changes to human SC as a function of depth. This technique provides exceptional sensitivity and chemical specificity, al-lowing analysis of single tape stripped samples taken from volunteers. Using this methodology we were able to successfully identify chemical differences in human SC resulting from both intrinsic and extrinsic (photo) aging. Samples were collected from women of two age groups (under 27 and post-menopausal) and from two body sites with varying UV exposure (inner forearm and dorsal hand) and differences were identified using multivariate data analysis. The key finding was the signifi-cant aged-related increase and change in spatial distribution of the sterol cholesterol sulfate, a membrane stabilizing lipid. Significant changes in the prevalence of both lignoceric acid (C24:0) and hexacosanoic acid (C26:0) were also observed. This work describes previously unreported age-related chemical changes to human SC, providing an insight into aging mechanisms which may improve the design of both pharmaceutical and cosmetic topical products

    Prospects for Pentaquark Production at Meson Factories

    Following Rosner [hep-ph/0312269], we consider B-decay production channels for the exotic I=0 and I=3/2I=3/2 pentaquarks that have been recently reported. We also discuss new search channels for isovector pentaquarks, such as the Θ∗++(sˉduuu)\Theta^{*++} (\bar s duuu), that are generically present in chiral soliton models but were not observed in recent experiments. Futhermore, we argue that weak decays of charmed baryons, such as the Λc+\Lambda_c^+ and Ξc0\Xi_c^0, provide another clean way of detecting exotic baryons made of light quarks only. We also discuss discovery channels for charmed pentaquarks, such as the isosinglet Θc0(cˉudud)\Theta_c^0 (\bar c udud), in weak decays of bottom mesons and baryons. Finally, we discuss prospects for inclusive production of pentaquarks in e+e−e^+ e^- collisions, with associated production of particles carrying the opposite baryon number.Comment: 15 pages, LaTeX; v2,v3: minor corrections, references added; v4: minor modifications, the version published in Physics Letters
