    Using multiple related ontologies in a fuzzy information retrieval model.

    With the Semantic Web progress many independently developed distinct domain ontologies have to be shared and reused by a variety of applications. The use of ontologies in information retrieval applications allows the retrieval of semantically related documents to an initial users¬ī query. This work presents a fuzzy information retrieval model for improving the document retrieval process considering a knowledge base composed of multiple domain ontologies that are fuzzy related. Each ontology can be represented independently as well as their relationships. This knowledge organization is used in a novel method to expand the user initial query and to index the documents in the collection. Experimental results show that the proposed model presents better overall performance when compared with another fuzzy-based approach for information retrieval.SBIA 2008

Atendendo √† influ√™ncia que os manuais exercem nas pr√°ticas de ensino, a quest√£o que se coloca √© a de saber em que medida as quest√Ķes inclu√≠das nos manuais escolares de Ci√™ncias podem fomentar um ensino orientado para a ABRP. Neste texto, descrever-se-√° o processo de constru√ß√£o e valida√ß√£o de uma grelha de an√°lise de quest√Ķes inclu√≠das em manuais escolares de Ci√™ncias com essa finalidade, apresentando-se n√£o s√≥ essa grelha, mas tamb√©m, a t√≠tulo ilustrativo, uma aplica√ß√£o da mesma a um t√≥pico de Ci√™ncias, 8¬ļ ano, abordado nas duas disciplinas desta √°rea.Questions require a thoughtful answer and can play diverse educational roles, such as stimulating the learning of new knowledge, as is the case in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) contexts. In this context, the student is placed at the center of the teaching and learning processes and plays an active role in the learning of new knowledge. Bearing in mind the influence that textbooks exert on teaching practices, it is worthwhile questioning to which extent questions included in school science textbooks promote a PBL oriented teaching approach. This paper describes the development and validation of a checklist for analyzing the questions included in science textbooks. After introducing the checklist, an example of its application to a science unit assigned to two junior high school science courses (8th grade) is given, approaching the two disciplines in the area

    The irreducible unitary representations of the extended Poincare group in (1+1) dimensions

    We prove that the extended Poincare group in (1+1) dimensions is non-nilpotent solvable exponential, and therefore that it belongs to type I. We determine its first and second cohomology groups in order to work out a classification of the two-dimensional relativistic elementary systems. Moreover, all irreducible unitary representations of the extended Poincare group are constructed by the orbit method. The most physically interesting class of irreducible representations corresponds to the anomaly-free relativistic particle in (1+1) dimensions, which cannot be fully quantized. However, we show that the corresponding coadjoint orbit of the extended Poincare group determines a covariant maximal polynomial quantization by unbounded operators, which is enough to ensure that the associated quantum dynamical problem can be consistently solved, thus providing a physical interpretation for this particular class of representations.Comment: 12 pages, Revtex 4, letter paper; Revised version of paper published in J.     A Case Report of a Sclerotic Fibroma of the Oral Mucosa

    Sclerotic fibroma, also known as storiform collagenoma, is a rare benign tumor that grows on the skin, but it can also appear, less frequently, in the oral mucosa. It can present as part of Cowden syndrome manifestation, especially when multiple lesions are encountered, but it may also appear as a solitary, sporadic lesion in healthy individuals. We describe a patient, diagnosed with Cowden syndrome, who presented with a sclerotic fibroma in the oral mucosa, which is a very uncommon manifestation of Cowden syndrome.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
