    THE ROLE OF COMMUNICATION OF COMMUNITY FIGURE IN AFFECTING THE VOTERS’ CHOICE IN THE ELECTION OF PEMATANGSIANTAR CITY, NORTH SUMATERA PROVINCE, 2016

    This study aims to explore the role of community leaders in influencing voter choice in Pematangsiantar City Head Election 2016. this research is a qualitative research with indication that every data in this research is expressed descriptively without using numbers and symbols. The research data is taken from interviews and direct case studies in the field by meeting community leaders and community members directly involved in the election of Pematang Siantar. The results showed that; 1). Community leaders who can influence voters' choice are those who have known the candidate partner for a long time and are close friends of the candidate pair. 2). Community leaders who can influence voters' choice are those who know only the Mayor or only the Vice Mayor. 3) Community leaders who can influence voters' choice are those who have worked with these candidates. as conclusion in this research can be explained that Pematangsiantar Pematangsiantar Pematangsiantar election is very influenced from elektabilitas Candidates against the People of Pematangsiantar City, so if the Candidates want to win this Pilkada then they must have a special closeness with community leaders there.Key Words; The Role of Communication, Community Figure, Voters’ Choice, Electio

    Sejarah pertumbuhan dan perkembangan Parmalim penting dan menarik dikaji lebih mendalam atas pertimbangan beberapa hal: pertama, sebagai sebuah komunitas keagamaan lokal yang tumbuh dan berkembang di bagian Selatan provinsi Sumatera Utara, tepatnya di kecamatan Laguboti kabupaten Toba Samosir, komunitas Parmalim dianggap cukup adaptif dengan perkembangan zaman. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan keberadaan komunitas ini yang masih tetap eksis dalam kancah pertumbuhan dan perkembangan Nasional. Dalam aspek-aspek tertentu, komunitas Parmalim bahkan dapat disejajarkan dengan komunitas keagamaan besar yang tumbuh dan berkembang di Sumatera Utara.Kedua, dalam konteks percaturan politik daerah, berbagai sumber menyebutkan bahwa komunitas Parmalim berperan aktif sehingga mampu mengantarkan kemenangan dutanya dalam percaturan politik. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan keberadaan Monang Naipospos sebagai salah satu tokoh intelektual Parmalim yang paling aktif menulis dan menjadi semacam kepala bidang hubungan dengan masyarakat luar Agama Parmalim. Pada Pemilu Legislatif tahun 2009 yang lalu ia terpilih menjadi salah seorang aggota DPRD Kabupaten Toba Samosir.Ketiga, Parmalim sebagai kepercayaan asli suku Batak, dalam konteks sejarah merupakan objek missi Kristen dan Dakwah Islam di Tanah Batak. Padahal, etnis Batak sendiri merupakan etnis yang memiliki prinsip-prinsip budaya cukup kuat sehingga jika ditelusuri lebih jauh, pada dasarnya amat sulit memasukkan missi agama pada etnis ini. Namun demikian, dalam kenyataannya, seperti dalam kasus-kasus identitas penduduk yang cenderung harus memilih salah satu dari enam agama yang diakui di Indonesia, Paramalim umumnya memilih salah satu dari dua agama teresebut (Islam dan Kristen)

    DAI'S STRATEGY TO BUILD THE POLITICAL IMAGE OF CANDIDATES IN THE 2015 MEDAN MAYOR ELECTION

    This study aims to explain how the existence of dai in building the political image of candidates in the 2015 Medan Mayor election. Furthermore, the researcher specifically wants to reveal the involvement of dai in the 2015 Medan Mayor election, his motivation to be involved in the Mayor election, the strategy in building candidate imagery, and dai communication ethics in building candidate image in Mayor's election. This research is a political communication research using qualitative research methods. The data collection technique is done by interview, observation, and documentation. Research informants were selected through the snowball technique. The data obtained were then processed using Miles and Huberman, namely through three steps, first reducing data, presenting data, and finally drawing or verifying conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the involvement of the dai in the 2015 election for the mayor of Medan, there were dai who supported the candidate directly, who supported indirectly, the dai group who were neutral and the dai group who refused. The motivation for dai's involvement is based on the motive of power and the motive for personal and group gain. The strategy used in building a candidate's image is carried out by caring for the candidate's character by presenting candidates at religious events, accompanying candidates at religious events, appearing on the candidate's campaign stage, and explaining the candidate's vision and mission to the congregation. Furthermore, the strategy is carried out by packaging political messages in an informative and persuasive manner with an approach that is of appeal, emotional appeal, and reward appeal. The media used by dai as a candidate imaging tool is direct media (face to face) individually or in groups. Also, printed media (newspapers, brochures, bulletin) and new media are used, namely the website, WhatsApp and Facebook. In political imaging activities, Dai still seems to ignore the ethical values of communication, namely, he is still carrying out black campaigns and is inconsistent between words and deeds
