    Eikenella corrodens and Porphyromonas gingivalis are oral microorganisms associated with the periodontal disease and have been identified in atherosclerotic lesions. The pro-atherosclerotic potential of a periodontopathic species depends on the ability of the strain to infect the endothelium. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from atherosclerosis-associated bacteria causes innate inflammatory responses in the pathogenic processes induced by microorganisms.
