Cifra contínua baseada no filtro de Bloom
A Linear Feedback Shift Register (LFSR) is a building block that is frequently used to build fast, hardware-based stream ciphers. However, the fact that an LFSR is bit oriented makes it inefficient when implemented by microprocessors. On the other hand, LFSR’s have a very well-defined internal behavior, defined by a carefully chosen (primitive) feedback polynomial, which facilitates the evaluation of their quality using mathematical tools but also their cryptanalysis. This work consisted on creating a generalized LFSR where the information
stored in each stage of the shift register is a 64-bit word, instead of a single bit. Furthermore, a variable feedback polynomial is used instead of a fixed one, for making cryptanalysis harder. The variability of the feedback polynomial is given by the state of a Bloom filter. A Bloom filter is a well defined construction used to detect a possible repetition of a value observed in the past, and was used in our stream generator to provide a hard-to-model, always changing state. The evolution of the Bloom filter state is cyclic, in the sense that during some iterations it accumulates ones (1’s), while in other iterations it accumulates zeros (0’s). The number of iterations in each case is not fixed, it is given by an accumulated number of collisions in the Bloom filter itself.
Analysis of interpretability methods applied to DCE-MRI of Breasts Images
respetivamente.
intensity projections. As perturbações criadas para serem aplicadas no método LIME correspondem a
áreas quadradas na imagem. O método LIME cria imagens atribuindo valores nulos a estas áreas
aleatoriamente.
as importantes convolutional layers do modelo.
Computer aided diagnosis has had an exponential growth in medical imaging. Machine learning has
helped technicians in tasks such as tumor segmentation and tumor detection. Despite the growth in this
area, there is still a need to justify and fully understand the computer results, in order to increase the
trust of medical professionals in these computer tasks. By applying explainable methods to the machine
learning algorithms, we can extract information from techniques that are often considered black boxes.
This dissertation focuses on applying and analyzing state-of-the-art XAI (eXplainable Artificial
Intelligence) methods to machine learning models that handle DCE-MR (Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced
Magnetic Resonance) breast images. The methods used to justify the model’s decisions were SHAP
(SHapley Additive exPlanations) [4], LIME (Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations) [5] and
Grad-CAM (Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping) [8], which correspond to three visual
explanation methods. SHAP uses Shapley Values from game theory to explain the importance of
features in the image to the model’s prediction. LIME is a method that uses weighted perturbed images
and tests then using the existing models. From the model’s response to these perturbed images, the
algorithm can find which perturbations cause the model to change its prediction and, consequently, can
find the important areas in the image that lead to the model’s prediction. Grad-CAM is a visual
explanation method that can be applied to a variety of neural network architectures. It uses gradient
scores from a specific class and feature maps extracted from convolutional layers to highlight classdiscriminative regions in the images.
Two neural network models were built to perform regression tasks such as measuring tumor area and
measuring tumor shrinkage. To justify the network’s results, filters were extracted from the network’s
convolutional layers and the SHAP method was applied. The filter visualization technique was able to
demonstrate which parts of the image are being convoluted by the layer’s filters while the SHAP method
highlighted the areas of the tumor that contributed most to the model’s predictions. The SHAP method
had a success rate of 57% at highlighting the correct area of the breast when applied to the neural network
which measured the tumor area, and a success rate of 69% when applied to the neural network which
measured the tumor shrinkage. Another model was created using a Resnet18’s architecture. This
network had the task of classifying the breast images according to the shrinkage of the tumor and the
SHAP, LIME and Grad-CAM methods were applied to it. The SHAP method had a success rate of 82%.
The LIME method was applied two times by using perturbations of different sizes. The smaller sized
perturbations performed better, having a success rate of 48% at highlighting the tumor area, but the
larger sized perturbations had better results in terms of locating the entire tumor, because the area
covered was larger. Lastly, the Grad-CAM method excelled at locating the tumor in the breast when
applied to the last important convolutional layer in the network
Limits and Possibilities of the United States Military in Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Stabilization
This study probes the limits and possibilities of U.S. military efforts to facilitate the transition from warfighting to nation-building. Most comparative studies conceive the complexity of this transition along a spectrum from conflict to humanitarian assistance to post-conflict stabilization. While the last two stages have often been interpreted as a coordinated act of civil-military ‘nation-building’, the spectrum, in fact, represents an ideal type simplification. At one level, outcomes depend on the players involved, including sovereign nations, national militaries, international and regional institutions, U.N. peacekeepers, private security contractors, and non-governmental humanitarian providers, among others. On the other hand, because the number, types, and causes of case outcomes are highly diverse and contingent upon many factors (example: political, economic, military, organizational, humanitarian, cultural, and religious), institutions like the U.S. military face serious difficulties both planning and coordinating post-conflict scenarios. Assuming this complex backdrop, this study offers a qualitative analysis of two recent U.S. government reports by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) and the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction (SIGIR) on U.S. military engagement in Afghanistan and Iraq. In both cases, the U.S. government sought to ‘nation-build’ by facilitating post-war stabilization and humanitarian assistance, detailing its efforts to record both processes. While results indicate limited successes in both cases, they also indicate a familiar pattern of uneven performance consistent with other cases internationally. The analysis concludes with recommendations for further research that may better control the contingencies of post-conflict management
O uso da telerradiologia num serviço hospitalar
Dissertação de mest., Imagiologia Médica, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade do Algarve, 2007The purpose of this study has consisted in the analysis of the impact of Digital
Technology and Teleradiology in the assistance capacity of the Imagiology Department of
Hospital Padre Américo – Vale do Sousa, in the first 4 years of activity. We analysed
statistically the clinical and material data of how the Department works and we assessed the
results obtained from the inquiry done to the Medical and Technician staff, concerning the
importance of Digital Technology and Teleradiology. In the period that we analysed, we
observed that the increased use of Computerized Tomographies matched the needs of the
Outpatient, Inpatient and Emergency Department. The average time of patient’s internment
was reduced and the hospital transference index from the Emergency Department was greatly
reduced in 2004 and in 2005. If we compare it with the Conventional System, we verify that
the costs of the Digital System were due to the buying, maintenance and updating of adequate
equipment, while operating costs with personal and materials were lower in percentage, if
compared with the costs of assistance statistics. Most of the professionals acknowledged the
advantages of the Digital System and most of them have adjusted well to the new technology
and expressed themselves favourably towards Teleradiology. We can conclude that the
implementation of the Digital System in the Imagiology Department lead to an improvement
in its services and that Teleradiology was also an advantage (in spite of its costs), allowing the
interpretation of the Neuroradiology exams and the permanent reading of the Computerized
Tomographies outside the normal hospital schedule
Crude oil contains four classes of compounds: aromatics, cycloalkanes,
alkanes and compounds with atoms of sulfur, nitrogen and/or oxygen. The
presence of sulfur brings a lot of damage, for the petroleum industry itself as
well as for the environment, where is a major contributor of air pollution. The
EU has imposed strict legislations on the S content in transportation fuels.
However, the production of such ultra-low sulfur fuels by conventional
hydrodesulfurization technologies is very costly, due to the harsh conditions
(high temperatures and high H2 pressures) needed that are incompatible with
other important fuel requirements. The development of alternative technologies
that could successfully remove sulfur under sustainable and inexpensive
conditions is very important. Oxidative desulfurization (ODS) has proven to be
an effective approach for this purpose. In this process the sulfur compounds
are oxidized by the combination of a suitable catalyst with an oxidant. The
oxidized species are removed by extraction with appropriate polar solvents.
Following this strategy, in the present work novel catalytic systems were
developed based on the unexplored combination Mo(VI)-oxo/H2O2 for efficiently
desulfurizing model and real liquid fuels. Special attention was given to the
experimental conditions, particularly the substitution of organic volatile solvents
by more sustainable options, such as ionic liquids (ILs), deep-eutectic solvents
(DES) or solvent-free systems. Also, low H2O2/S ratios and low temperatures
(50 or 70 °C) were considered to achieve the optimal conditions. Directly or
indirectly (when dissolved) all the catalysts were reused and/or recycled for
several ODS cycles. In general, the desulfurization efficiency was maintained at
least until the third consecutive cycle. Of all the catalysts studied, the species
{PO4[MoO(O2)2]4}3- stood out due to its remarkably recyclability and stability
performance for desulfurization of a model diesel for ten consecutive cycles
under eco-sustainable conditions (H2O2/S = 3.7 and solvent-free system), with
its immiscibility in the reaction environment being of added value. The complex
IndMo(CO)3Me also displayed a remarkable behaviour under similar conditions.
Both catalysts were treated as heterogeneous catalysts and recovered and
reused without further treatment. Despite these outstanding results, the
absence of solvent during the ODS was detrimental to the treatment of real
diesel samples (2300 ppm S). The highest and the best ODS results were
achieved using biphasic systems (diesel/[BMIM]PF6): IndMo(CO)3Me (95 ppm),
[MoO2Cl2(DEO)] (129 ppm), CpMo(CO)3Me (372 ppm), [MoO2Cl2(DMB)2] (381
ppm), {PO4[MoO(O2)2]4}3- (500 ppm), [MoO2Cl2(di-tBu-bipy)] (621 ppm) and two
hybrid molybdenum compounds (740 and 741 ppm). The species
{PO4[WO(O2)2]4}3- also displayed high catalytic efficiency but using MeCN as
A presença
A UE impôs
No entanto
economia do processo.
[MoO2Cl2(DEO)] (129 ppm), CpMo(CO)3Me (372 ppm), [MoO2Cl2(DMB)2] (381
ppm), {PO4[MoO(O2)2]4}3- (500 ppm), [MoO2Cl2(di-tBu-bipy)] (621 ppm) e dois
materiais híbridos à base de molibdénio (740 e 741 ppm). O {PO4[WO(O2)2]4}3-

The environmental perspective on political project Degree in Chemistry at the Federal University of Piauí: distance mode
Chemistry principles are present from the environmental pollution episodes recorded in the 1950s in Japan, where mercury discharges have contaminated rivers and the overuse of pesticides was denouncing target biologist Rachel Carson in Silent Spring classic.
