After a little more than one year from the request of the European Commission, the CJEU has given its Advisory Opinion on the accession agreement of the European Union to the ECHR. This article explores the content of Advisory Opinion 2/13: for each of the remarks of the CJEU, the content of the DRA is reported. In the light of this examination, the article offers two different keys of interpretation: one, critical, directed to the position which the CJEU expressed in its Advisory Opinion; the other, pro futuro, which essays to speculate on possible solutions for each of the objections made by the CJEU

On the Stopping Time of a Bouncing Ball

We study a simple model of a bouncing ball that takes explicitely into account the elastic deformability of the body and the energy dissipation due to internal friction. We show that this model is not subject to the problem of inelastic collapse, that is, it does not allow an infinite number of impacts in a finite time. We compute asymptotic expressions for the time of flight and for the impact velocity. We also prove that contacts with zero velocity of the lower end of the ball are possible, but non-generic. Finally, we compare our findings with other models and laboratory experiments.Comment: Submitted to archive for rational mechanics and analysi

International Standard Problem No 50 – The University of Pisa contribution

The present paper deals with the participation of the University of Pisa in the last International Standard Problem (ISP) focused on system thermal hydraulic, which was led by the Korean Atomic Energy Research Institution (KAERI). The selected test was a Direct Vessel Injection (DVI) line break carried out at the ATLAS facility. University of Pisa participated, together with other eighteen institutions, in both blind and open phase of the analytical exercise pursuing its methodology for developing and qualifying a nodalization. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the code results have been performed for both ISP-50 phases, the latter adopting the Fast Fourier Transfer Based Method (FFTBM). The experiment has been characterized by three dimensional behavior in downcomer and core region. Even though an attempt to reproduce these phenomena, by developing a fictitious three-dimensional nodalization has been realized, the obtained results were generally acceptable but not fully satisfactory in replicating 3D behavio
