Elliptic flow due to radiation in heavy-ion collisions
In this paper we demonstrate that radiation patterns could cause flow-like
behaviour without any reference to hydrodynamic description. For that purpose
we use a statistical ensemble of radiating dipoles, motivated by the
investigation of the equivalent photon yield produced by decelerating charges.
For the elliptic asymmetry factor we find a reasonable agreement with
experimental data.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, v2: discussion on the physical interpretation of

Reducing systematic errors in time-frequency resolved mode number analysis
The present paper describes the effect of magnetic pick-up coil transfer
functions on mode number analysis in magnetically confined fusion plasmas.
Magnetic probes mounted inside the vacuum chamber are widely used to
characterize the mode structure of magnetohydrodynamic modes, as, due to their
relative simplicity and compact nature, several coils can be distributed over
the vessel. Phase differences between the transfer functions of different
magnetic pick-up coils lead to systematic errors in time- and frequency
resolved mode number analysis. This paper presents the first in-situ,
end-to-end calibration of a magnetic pick-up coil system which was carried out
by using an in-vessel driving coil on ASDEX Upgrade. The effect of the phase
differences in the pick-up coil transfer functions is most significant in the
50-250 kHz frequency range, where the relative phase shift between the
different probes can be up to 1 radian (~60{\deg}). By applying a correction
based on the transfer functions we found smaller residuals of mode number
fitting in the considered discharges. In most cases an order of magnitude
improvement was observed in the residuals of the mode number fits, which could
open the way to investigate weaker electromagnetic oscillations with even high
mode numbers
IMPLEMENTATION AND UNIFORM MANAGEMENT OF MODELLING ENTITIES IN A MASSIVELY FEATURE-OBJECT ORIENTED ADVANCED CAD ENVIRONMENT
Today we are spectators of the transition process in computer aided design from traditional geometry based on design systems to advanced computer-based engineering systems. The key is the feature technology that allows both integrating and managing modelling entities in a coherent way. Feature technology is developing rapidly. New research topics and contexts are emerging from time to time. This paper introduces concept, design and technological feature-objects to support operational, structural and morphological modelling of mechanical products. First, the feature-centred approaches to conceptual design are summarized and evaluated. Then an implementation of concept feature-objects and the methodology for using them is presented. The strength of concept feature-objects is in their morphology inclusive nature. They appear as parametrized three-dimensional
skeletons providing geometrical representations for the modelled engineering conceptions. A concept feature-object models the physical ports, contact surfaces related to ports, bones between ports, DOF of ports, relevant physical parameters, scientific and empirical descriptions of intentional transformations and environmental effects. Concept feature-objects are related to design feature-objects that, in turn, are constructed of a relevant
set of technological feature-entities. Concept feature-objects refer to the configurable and parametrized design feature-objects through an indexing mechanism. The conceptions have been tested during the programming and further development of the authors' PRODES system
An Algorithm for the Calculation of the Dwell Time Constraint for Switched
This paper presents a numerical algorithm for determining the minimum dwell time constraint for switched linear H-infinity fault detection filters. When applying switched systems, ensuring the stability is a crucial target, which can be guaranteed, when we switch slowly enough between the subsystems, more precisely when the intervals between two consecutive switching instants, called dwell time, are large enough. The problem formulation is based on multiple Lyapunov functions and is expressed through a special form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which include a nonlinear term of the dwell time. This represents a multivariable, time dependent optimization problem. As a result, the task cannot be treated as a simple feasibility problem involving a LMI solver as it is widely used in applications of the linear control. To solve these special LMIs, we propose a numerical algorithm, calle
Modelling and Simulation of Rocking Suitcases
The rocking motion of two-wheeled suitcases is investigated. A rigid body mechanical model of the suitcase is constructed. All of the possible motion states (both wheels on the ground, one wheel on the ground, none of the wheels on the ground) are taken into account. The switching between the motion states is accomplished by a simple impact model. The motion of the suitcase is investigated through numerical simulations, furthermore the domain of the attraction of the stable rectilinear motion is identified. The model is partly validated by experiments
